use better spells, and you would've had him. Go to whiterun and get yourself conjure flame atronarch, and firebolt. These are the 2 spells that i most use, and they will really help out in a fight like this. Also, try to use some damaging shouts, the best one really being ice in this case.

I find the best shout against giants is whirlwind sprint. Use it every time they get too close
