@CreatedOnly4U As I said, whatever rules govern the sport will favor that competitor. Enter a Kyokushin tournament and the Kyokushin guy will beat anybody else, enter a TKD tournament and the TKD guy will win. And yes even MMA are governed by rules - the MMA guy will win in his arena.

Both muay thai and kyokushin fighters usually to always fight under other ppl rules and they usually win by KO (It's not surprizing that muay thai and kyokushin are known for their efficiency). @gunjo141 that's where you're wrong. rick roufus comfortably knocked down kiatsongrit in 1r TWICE. it was once kiatsongrit had gotten into him with the low kicks that things started going against rick. it wasn't as one-sided as this final round highlight shows.

Rufus was going to win this either points or KO when that injury happened. Chanpuek got lucky.

Roufus never learned that his southpaw approach only made it easier for his opponents to defeat him. Diabate, Filho, LeBanner, etc... Roufus was one dimensional. Kitsongrit only used one technique, which shows how Roufus was not smart in changing his strategy to adapt.

@andy29011981 Depends on what 'kickboxing' is. If you mean American full contact karate, then yes. But it's becoming less and less common to refer to that as 'kickboxing' since the Japanese and Dutch/European forms of kickboxing are vastly more popular.
And that stuff is generally much faster paced and combination oriented than what Thai fighters do. You also need to pass the defense there much more than in muai thai, since blocked strikes do not count at all.
I have nothing against kiatsongrit or muy thai, but all of you muy thai supporters are dumbasses. You realize roufus knocked him down in the first round, and was winning up until this point? If this was "real combat," as you all put it, the referee would not have been there to stop the fight in the first round. And roufus would have continued his dominant striking skills. I like both fighters but clearly most of the commentors below have no martial arts experience.

I was at this fight. That was my first muay Thai experience. I felt for Rick in this fight. what you didnt see was the beating the muay thai fighter got in the first round. He almost knocked him out. Thats when he started going for Rick's legs.

I've been training muay thai for years but i'll tell you right now Judo and Juijitsu compliment my muaythai skills. If you take this muaythai fighter who just fought and throw in a Grappler i gaurentee you the Grappler will introduce that muaythai fighter to a whole new world of pain. Martial Arts in its origin is a way to express the individual fighter. Muay thai alone wont cut the mustard.

i remember renting this video waaay back in the day pre-mma. since i didn't have an allegiance it was quite educational. less talented muay thai fighter beats highly skilled kickboxer...muay thai has too many advantagges, that's why everybodies doing it now, including the roufuss. Roufus never learned that his southpaw approach only made it easier for his opponents to defeat him. Diabate, Filho, LeBanner, etc... Roufus was one dimensional. Kitsongrit only used one technique, which shows how Roufus was not smart in changing his strategy to adapt.

@andy29011981 Depends on what 'kickboxing' is. If you mean American full contact karate, then yes. But it's becoming less and less common to refer to that as 'kickboxing' since the Japanese and Dutch/European forms of kickboxing are vastly more popular.
And that stuff is generally much faster paced and combination oriented than what Thai fighters do. You also need to pass the defense there much more than in muai thai, since blocked strikes do not count at all.

I have nothing against kiatsongrit or muy thai, but all of you muy thai supporters are dumbasses. You realize roufus knocked him down in the first round, and was winning up until this point? If this was "real combat," as you all put it, the referee would not have been there to stop the fight in the first round. And roufus would have continued his dominant striking skills. I like both fighters but clearly most of the commentors below have no martial arts experience.

@awesomenessCO92 Although you're totally right muai thai fanboys often get really elitist about 'their' sport, I have to say Roufus was losing. Maybe it looked better in the first round, but if you're going to take out a guy's legs, you always have to build it up. But really, from the moment it's your gameplan, and the other guy doesn't have a block, it's merely a matter of time before it leads to a win.
He probably held out so long because Chanpuek is so slow paced and attacks infrequently.

What is funnier is that the Thai fighter isn't even allowed to use all his tools. No clinch, no elbows, knees or throws. This would have been a murder scene if the Thai fighter could have used all his weapons. He still beat the crap out of that kickboxer.

muay thai fighters are FULL contact. which means elbows and knees included unlike US pussy kickboxing which cant use those parts. The pain and suffering the american kickboxer has gone through cannot even compare to that which the muay thai fighter has probably gone through in his fights at home in Thailand. Wanna see a real fight? Go bangkok... its fucking brutal. People bleed from the head, temple and other parts from the brutality of the sport. This is childs play to a muay thai fighter

@dss103 its not duke ,its rick the jet, his brother,jeff is duke.NEither of them were good thai fighters even though held beagle versions of world titles(many versions were worthless),they were never rated in thai circles.However ,kiatsongrit and many thais had useless hands and concentrated too much on kicks without set ups and lost to many westerners because of that.

I was at this fight. That was my first muay Thai experience. I felt for Rick in this fight. what you didnt see was the beating the muay thai fighter got in the first round. He almost knocked him out. Thats when he started going for Rick's legs.

i have trained martial arts for almost six years and since a a year ago i have been preparing my self for ring fights and during most of the training is the way to strengh your legs in order to recieved pain, in muay thai is normal to destroy your bases enemy the legs, so you have to have powerful supports.

I've been training muay thai for years but i'll tell you right now Judo and Juijitsu compliment my muaythai skills. If you take this muaythai fighter who just fought and throw in a Grappler i gaurentee you the Grappler will introduce that muaythai fighter to a whole new world of pain. Martial Arts in its origin is a way to express the individual fighter. Muay thai alone wont cut the mustard.
