Ustaadji is awesome. The way he has combined qawalli with Classical music is simple great. Qawalli is considered to be contributed a lot by Amir Khusro who was born and flourished in India. I am not wishing to join the country debate. You can see in this video how people from different nationalities and color are enjoying and living his music. This is the ultimate legacy of Ustad and that is what he liked. He would not be happy looking at the fights between countries. Lets gift him our Unity.
We Pakistanis are proud of Great NFAK BUT just like all humans are children of GOD, Nusrat is God of Music and his blessings are for every human equally.... Lets all remember him as great messenger of peace for human race and climax of art of music- God is alive!
NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN !!! from chicago
Farukh Fateh ali Khan was really underrated in the group. He is the younger brother of Ustad and plays Harmonium. He is considered one of the best Harmonium players and has beautiful sureela voice.
No he was the younger brother of Nusrat because when they performed Raag Gawati in Washington university Ustad Nusrat introduced Farrukh as my younger brother.
7:26 that is a priceless moment! Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan crossed all religious and or ethnic boundaries and reached people world over, not just Pakistanis.
At 7.26, that looks very like soi-disait "world music expert," journalist, SOAS staff member and some-tome BBC radio presenter Lucy Duran, unless I'm much mistaken ...
i just love the way he rearranges the qawwali everytime he sings it...like zeppelin did with stairway to heaven...nusrat did this with everyone of his live performances for every one of his classics.
Mesmerizing ,intoxicating---intoxicates and transports a person to a higher level of Divine Ecstacy --what a lovely feeling ---and all this without a single drop of alcohol or any other earthly intoxicant.!!
Is Nusrat alright in this clip, I mean health-wise, 'cause he looks like he's on the verge of having a heart-attack or something in it? And he did die sadly from a massive one in like 1998 or so I believe. Maybe he's just really sweating and everything because it gets hot on stage and even though he's sitting down it still manages to take a lot out of him to sing with that much power in his voice and really get into the song the way he does *shrugs*
look guys, think about it nusrat ali khan might of been a godd person but what he use to do was 100% against the rules and regulations of islam. it is forbidden to say allahs and the prophets name with music and 99.99999% of his qawallis, nasheeds whatever you wanna call them hav got musical instruments involved and alot of music
For my brother GhandhiThrc who claims this is Haram please visit this two links
simply Type WHAT DOES ISLAM SAY ON MUSIC or ISLAMIC STANCE ON MUSIC on Google and follow the links of the ISLAMONLINE web site and you will find a good answer there,
If His music made me to Take drugs and Alcohol or made me to forget Allah then I would call it as an Unethical and haram,BUT it dint It increased my spirituality further,Allah knows best,May Allah Bless you all,Salaam!
jst for tou to understand the origins of sama or qawaal you should read up on sufism... n you might understand why and how it was used in converting people to islam and how it was used for spiritual uplifment by great saints... assalaamu-a'laikum
no sufism only work for people in in indo pak cause they refered to music for inlightement, islam comes b4 sufism Allah sent the music to Dawuds for his people and for us its been banned and the Koran was sent.
BAD INTENTIONS/THOUGHTS that come from certian music is not allowed. This music is in devotion. It's not like a person is going to crave drugs, drinking and orgies after listening to this.
It's stupid people like you, who do not truly understand the rules of the Quran who speak so ignorantly.
His understanding will remain within the hole he possess. It is difficult for him to understand miracle of Islam and the Almighty Allah SWT. God is a narrow expression.
Those that say only Muslims could appreciate this should ask themselves why Khan Saheb would bother to perform for a non-Muslim audience. He gladly sang for many people because he knew it would be uplifting for them. Do you think he complained about the dull non-Muslims? If you have to be the "right" type of person to -really- get this music then do you then have to be Sufi? Do you have to be Pakistani to -really- get it? Do you have to be from Khan Saheb's neighborhood to -really- get it?
There is no word like god even in christanity.Allah means Allah.Because in christanity they divide god in 3.So it is Allah which is One and only one.Music is beyond religion but words have a religion. If you think it is beyond religion then you miss sme element in qawali and just enjoying the beats and nothing more.
Sorry bu ti think u are wrong, Allah is simply yhe Arabic word meaning God, although it's been adopted by all Muslims, it is used by Arabic speaking people of all faiths.
Before Islam, the Arabs believed in a myriad of lesser, tribal gods but shared a belief in a Supreme Being, which they would call Al-lah ("the god").
Sorry to say, you've got ur history wrong. Arabs before Islam did indeed believe in many gods but Allah is literaly means One. Check it up in an Arabic dictionary and check its derivation then you'll understand that Allah means The One. All the Muslims prefer using Allah for the Supreme Being who is only one.
dperkinss, Christians believe many things. Some think of God as having three parts that are really one thing. Others don't. Arabic Christians say Allah. There is no magic code that makes a Muslim understand this and a non-Muslim not. Especially since there are plenty people of all faiths, Islam included that do not understand God/Allah very well at all and so when they hear God/Allah's voice they don't recognize it.
A wonderful combination of praising Allah and qawaali.U Don't have to be earless or brainless but u have to be islamic to understand this qawaali. But for rest others a wonderful example of voice modulation and skill.WAH!!!
plz realize tht Khan Sahab's music was beyond any religion. He might be using the word 'Allah' but after all it means God, whether its Islam or any other religion.
You say so because you have little knowledge about the words Allah and God. For a better understanding of the two words I would suggest you refer to Dr. Zakir Naik's video on the very same topic! I hope this clears things out. Peace!
What a testament this is to the gr8 Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that people who aren't used to his work are mesmerised by his Qawwali and some of them are literally in a trance like state.
I dunno. I like this because I believe in the mystical traditions of all faiths. But I still give the nod to Chopin in the West. I can never tire of it.
I'm Spanish and I've known NFAK since the early nineties,I love his voice and the music.I have no idea what they talk about, but sounds great and remind me of Spanish Flamenco music a little bit.
of course flamenco has arabic influences and this is persian and arabic influenced. one school of thought says that flamenco comes from the arabic word fala mencom which means "of your magnanimity"
Yes I go to Andaluscia (Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Malaga mostly) regularly and when I leave its as if I leave my heart behind...the alhambra is just stunning..its like frozen music. It was an Iraqi who went to Andaluscia during the moorish rule of Spain who invented the modern guitar by giving the Oud a 5th string. He said "before it had 4 strings for the 4 elements, now it has the 5th for a heart" :-)
I assume you are asking a serious question. This is one of the rare rags and is meant to be very pleasing not to downplay the singing and music composition which is excellent.
This is very deep music listen to it in a quiet environment to enjoy it.
The form of singing is called 'qawwali'; Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saahab was and is a highly honored and beloved singer across race, country and religion divides. In this video he is singing a 'Naat' in different 'raags'; the audience is a Sufi gathering.
Thank you for addressing me as 'friend' - really :) I could well be mistaken - but in Sufi gatherings in the West (Europe, US)... and the people who have taken to the Sufi teachings are from all walks of life... they typically look like the folks in his audience.
while that may be case in the west, it certainly isnt elsewhere. to be called a sufi you have to reach a very high level of spirituality. calling those people sufis would be like calling a 1st year med student a doctor! remember also that there are some totally erroneous types of sufis. be very careful.
I am not an indian and can´t understand the language or essens of what he sings but very msesmerized by his style and by the high tone when I heard first time for three years ago, and since then today I listen to his music and thanks to youtube and those who uploading.I hope someone may help me to buy audio cd or dvd in Denmark

first of all...be 100% certain that if hindu's shout like that or not...secondly this isn't religious gathering this is differnt kind of music after all so though its haram we'r still listning to it...its a bad thing but God can forgive that in islam where as swearing at another human being, which u did by insulting Hindu's, Allah willnot forgive that, you would have to appologis to nyone uve hurt in islam so get ur facts straight please.
I don't know what this is, but this is certainly powerful stuff! There are some things in life that simply cannot be explained, they can only be experienced.
As we hear the praise of Allah (SWT) through Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, each of us has to feel something deep inside where our soul resides.
May Allah (SWT) be merciful to you and grant you a place in Heaven. Ameen!
I love how this performs like something between a song and a passionate conversation, complete with conversational body language and punctuating gestures between the participants.
In most cultures respect for the artist is shown by listening to them - this is not a sing-a-long. Nusrat is one of the great masters of his art...his audience knows this and would naturally listen and not jump up and shout and dance!
nusrat fatih ali khan resterapour toujours le grand iremplacable du genre spirituelle qawwali.tous mes respets maitre( ustad)que la paix du grand allah et sa mesirecode soit sur ton ame amen.
who says music is forbidden? I am no one to judge, but as long as the music means something and keeps you in rememberance of Allah, then I see no problem with it. music is a great form of meditation, just like salaat, especially music like this.
Experiencing the beauty of life in its pure unaltered form is the truest form of beauty. Halucenajenics can only mask the truth to give a distorted fabrication that has no substance. Nusrat shows how voice, music, soul and passion can be used to deliver a deeper musical experience

beautiful beyond words. the majesty of the song is spellbounding. this is truly the haunting music of Islam.

I love how this performs like something between a song and a passionate conversation, complete with conversational body language and punctuating gestures between the participants.

Saw him three times - awesome guy. One of the few times I've been truly shocked and saddened when hearing of someone's death.

awesome is the man who sings this
alexi303 4 years ago 2
In most cultures respect for the artist is shown by listening to them - this is not a sing-a-long. Nusrat is one of the great masters of his art...his audience knows this and would naturally listen and not jump up and shout and dance!

Are the audience deaf? They're sitting there like planks of wood, idiots.
Fronika 4 years ago
Most of them are maybe new to the music and so they just listen. There is no sign that they are deaf :) some of them move their heads.

Ive liked Ali Khan since I was a bratty white boy in high school. His music crosses boundary and barrier.
fivlamx 4 years ago 5
His music crossed all geo-political boundaries and spoke to the heart of all people.
He could sing in a powerful, gruff voice or sing softly and with great sensitivity.

kalam is good but music is forbidden in islam.
dumbsternew 4 years ago
who says music is forbidden? I am no one to judge, but as long as the music means something and keeps you in rememberance of Allah, then I see no problem with it. music is a great form of meditation, just like salaat, especially music like this.
jamaln22 4 years ago
might as well forbid water too. Why do you think a religion would forbid beautiful, healing, energizing, devotional, unifying music?
furfuryay 4 years ago
music is not forbidden in islam. In fact its a very debatable issue. there are different schools of thought on that.
terimaki1425 4 years ago
Magic mushrooms can be quite beautiful, healing, energizing, devotional and unifying too!!!

Experiencing the beauty of life in its pure unaltered form is the truest form of beauty. Halucenajenics can only mask the truth to give a distorted fabrication that has no substance. Nusrat shows how voice, music, soul and passion can be used to deliver a deeper musical experience
