I purchased an adaptor for $8 and $10 for a new 3rd generation recoil spring for my Gen 4 Glock. What is funny is that it is cheaper for me to use a Gen 3 Spring conversion than purchase a Gen 4 Spring. I like the back strap and stippling change and the 3 magazines. I do think the Recoil spring change was a mistake and I am not a fan of the trigger change on the Gen. 4.
I've had my 4th gen 19 for about a month now. First 800 rounds or so I ran though it I had 20 or so FTE. Not sure what the "break in" time is for them but the last 400 rounds have been flawless, loads great, ejects nicely. I've found that the American Eagle / Federal Ammunition works the best (for me at least), my father-in-law traded me 100 reloaded rounds he got from a gun show and those ran great as well. (even though Glock frowns on that) I had no issues with them. Happy with this gun!
@pickmylocks Glock doesn't sell them directly in this configuration. This one just happened to be a order overrun for a large department when I bought it from Ed's Public Safety. You can get the sights and release aftermarket though.
I'm on the verge of purchasing my first Glock. I've been really impressed with what I've seen/heard about the weapon so far for the most part. I have heard about the concerns you raised here with the spring/ejection issues. You mention the '04' spring; have you replaced your spring yet, and has that solved any of the issues? Thanks a bunch!
@mtyetti I haven't had any issues and I still have the 03 spring. I've followed the issue closely and in reality it seems that the issues were with a very, very few of the Gen 4's. The issues were only when shooting the light 115 gr. rounds. This coupled with limp wristing (improper grip). From everything I gather the 04 has taken care of the issue if it did exist. I highly suggest getting one. I do believe they are shipping with the 04 springs now, if not Glock will ship you one for free.
Great, great vid BTH!!! I think you are right about the G19 Gen 4 possibly having a quite a few units shipped that were sprung for the .40S&W; which may lead to failures to eject. The new dual spring system in the 9mm, in my experience, does just like you said. It provides a slight reduction in muzzle flip, which o'course gets ya back on target sooner.I've got my own theory about the failure to eject issue: I think the new spring is much less forgiving of "limp wristing", causing the fails.
@MrWheelie19 Yeah I think the spring is just unforgiving of anything that would make it short stroke. Then new spring will sort it out if folks have problems.
I love my gen 4! I feel that it reduces recoil! I got tighter groups! But i can only speak on my weapon! If anything i think there sping just need to be broke in! When i use to rack my slide i found it to be much harder than my others but now its just the same as my others! Over 1300 rds and i just had my first FTE on the last rd! No biggie! 1 failer out of 1300 rds is a great weapon 2 me! But i think ppl need 2 go shot 1 themself 2 really decide rather they want 1! Great vid..☆☆☆☆☆
@052187ful Great to hear. When you've been around guns for a while you realize that any gun can have an issue once in while. There are too many variables for any gun to be truly 100% reliable. So, you train accordingly. I always keep in mind that no matter how reliable your gun is, it can fail at the least convenient time.
When I bought my gen 4 22 I did notice that a few parts from earlier generations are not compatible and that goes beyond the new spring and guide rod. I'm confident that as time goes by, gen 4 parts will become easier to find.
@one54cm Yeah I know there is a couple differences, but I've seen them trickling on to the market. It's just a matter of time and you'll be able to get them all.
@AK47andGlocklover I probably will. Any issues seem to come from the lighter rounds. I haven't had problems with the 115 though. So I'll probably get it just to have. If there is an issue I'll just switch it out. I don't think it will be though. People forget that springs take a set. I know a gun shouldn't need a break in period, but I think if people with issues shot them a little more, the spring would set and they wouldn't have the problems.
@pickmylocks the 19 is a compact handgun. there is no comapct 19. the 19 is a compact 17.

@pickmylocks This is a Glock 19. I have pretty large hands so that may make it look smaller. The 26 is very short in the grip area.

I purchased a G19 gen 4 a few days ago, ran 100 rounds of 124 gr NATO no problem
may changed out the trigger for a ghost trigger 3.5, did that on my G23 love that trigger
Good vd, thanks !
