I fully upgraded the rivet gun,pulse rifle,refurbished plasma cutter, and the Line Gun plus I have elite versions for all armor. Right now I am wearing in dead space a Elite Security Suit and my Pulse Rifle rofl beating the game rocks!!!!! :D
That's funny as heck! I can see me self with trigger fingers saying HOLY SH*T around each corner there's a necromorph lol. Love the game and this gun is going to be my panic gun instead of force gun in Dead Space 1! =D
Your not forced to use it but it will come in handy on the Hardcore difficulty i can tell you that i already played a bit of the game leaked ofcourse and fucko its dang hard!

I didn't get it at first either. :P
Turns out they are; the alt firing of the gun "detonates" them.
So pretty much, shoot a bunch in the necro(s), hit rb, and watch them explode. ;D
