Hey Kayley, great video, I'll check some of those films out some time! If you ever have any spare time, you should watch "El Mar Adentro" ("The Sea Inside,") if you haven't seen it already. It's in a mix of Spanish and Galician, but I'm sure you can find subtitles or an English version somewhere. It's amazing :), it's about a quadriplegic who wants to end his life but can't, as he cannot move, so he goes to court to see what can be done.
Have you seen I Am? I went to see it in uptown Minneapolis a few weeks ago, and it was phenomenal. If you've got a spare dime and some spare time, you should definitely try to find it.
O my gosh, I'm SO excited about Another Earth! It's not a good time to be in Korea :/ AH. I WANT TO SEE IT xD Kayley, when you speak about things like film and Harry Potter, your passion and love for them shines through the video. :) And also, I'm extremely jealous about the fact that you're so damn eloquent all the time. XD
@owlssayhooot What is your freaking secret channel?!?!?! lol Curse you! Something about a fashion guru or a makeup guru? I don't even know. Some sort of guru. xD
Did you plan on seeing Bill Cunningham New York? Because I went to see that, and it's brilliant. The cinematography, Bill himself, it's just fantastic and extremely well done.
I just watched death in oregon. My god. I have no words...It was defenitely not what I was expecting I cried like a baby through the whole thing... Cody's story defenitely impacted me, especially her attitude about enjoying each day not knowing if it was her last and the way she presented herself in her situation, not whining, and not crying in front of her kids. She was a real fighter in my eyes, til the very end :)
I find more and more as i watch your videos that you have A LOT of the same beliefs interests and ideas equivalent to my own. Its nice because you help me discover things i probably never would have come by if it had not been for your suggestions or reviews on them. :)
I love the trip XD I thought the trip had no script though.. I may be wrong but I believe it was entirely improvied... I love Rob Brydon cause of Gavin and Stacey. I can't help but see him as Bryn.
Sounds like a cool film festival. Any controversial ones like they just had at Cannes? I guess a lot of people walked out of the Antonio Banderas film The Skin I Live In. I guess theres probably one every year. I remember Antichrist was one a couple years ago.
Have you read Brazzaville Beach by W Boyd? Its a really good book, had to study it in my English class, and now thats what I think of whenever I think about chimps or Jane Goodall (I think its partly based on something she witnessed, might have made that up though) - really interesting ideas about altruism and society. Just a thought :)
I'm starting to find a new found enjoyment in documentaries. I recently watched the sonicgate documentary that documents everything that happened that lead to the supersonics leaving Seattle. If done right, documentaries are really good.
I don't think a small group of people should be able to make personal decisions for individuals, and that people should have the option to make their own informed choices in life :) Like with euthanasia, and that also applies to the gay marriage laws.
@owlssayhooot I agree. I think it's important to have an opinion on an issue, but it's equally as important to understand that other opinions are just as valid.
...and it's for that reason why I am hopelessly undecided, lol.
@owlssayhooot With Euthanasia you have to be careful. This could be used by HMOs as a cost cutting tool.Undo pressure could be applied to make the elderly and sick feel guilty if they choose life.I understand that shortly after Measure16's passage that the state of Oregon announced cuts in healthcare aid programs for the poor I understand sympathy for those that r dying and in pain, but we do have rather good ways to control pain these days. Lets not have this become the ulltimate anti-depressant
My aunt, Zoe Carter, wrote a memoir called "Imperfect Endings" about my grandmother's assisted suicide... if you get the time, I would really recommend you read it! I'm glad this issue is getting so much attention, and that you decided to mention it in your video.
I agree with the fact that humor scenes can drag but sometimes I think that they drag them so that people who didn't get the joke in the first few minutes.
It's videos like this that make me want to become much more educated on every other form of art so that I can appreciate them all.
Also, euthanasia is definitely a difficult subject to talk about and I'm torn on so many of the issues, so if that film is a good one to see in regards to it, I'll see if there's a way for me to watch it somewhere!
@fizzylimon Aw, yay art! The film is less about educating on the Death with Diginity Act and more on how it is changing lives. It is the story of different families and how/why they chose to go down that path (or why they didn't). But yeah, it will be on HBO again, I think. I don't know if it'll play anywhere else, though! Sorry! xx
The Jack Cardiff doc had a limited release in the UK last year -- glad you've reminded me to catch up with that! Perfect Sense is having its European Premiere at Edinburgh film fest, looking forward to seeing it!
Oh wow, this festival goes on for almost a month! That is, like, splendid. I really like this series, and I want to see most of these films! Hopefully I can catch the one that's going to be on HBO soon. I've never known anyone too personally with terminal illness -- or at least I knew them after they conquered the illness -- so I'm interested to see what effect it has on me.
sometimes i wish i was able to be impacted more by films, because unfortunatly for me it is rare that a film has anything approaching an impact on my life
Hey guys, I know these kind of comments are annoying, but hear me out. I also make videos, and put quite a lot of work into them, but it's a real shame that not many people get to see them. If you like these kind of videos, maybe you should check out mine? Thanks :)
I just finished helping a friend with an essay on euthanasia. It's such a complicated topic and each piece of research tore me more and more on what my personal beliefs should be, although i do agree that everyone has the right to decide on what they are going to do, if, forbid, the find themselves in that situation.
I look forward to reading a blog post about Euthanasia from you. I feel really strongly about it as well, but I've learned not to make my views on it known, as people get very upset over it, the way they do with abortion.
Ooh, I love hearing your opinions on all these films. I don't normally watch documentaries, but I will definitely look up a few of those (and the other films, too). Thanks for sharing!
These all sound really cool. I remember you being all up into death with dignity in middle school =p Also I quite like your hair at the beginning of this.
Wow...now I really want to see some of those films. I'm definitely going to look up How To Die In Oregon, Cameraman, Another Earth, and Perfect Sense. I'm really glad you're making these reviews because it's really made me want to go see more good films.
The way you talk about things you do with such enthusiasm really gets me intrigued and often times i'll find that i really enjoy the content you mention upon further investigation for myself.
So thanks for being awesome and thought provoking.
@SuperMrGameGuy I think that is your belief and if you want that for yourself, then go for it. I don't believe you have any right to tell other people what to suffer through.
@owlssayhooot You do have some valid points, I think it's more or less up for the individual point of view. it's a hard subject to take on for all sides. It can raise the questions " what is life" and " what is the ethical means for Euthanasia"
