diets don't work, but lifestyle changes do, i cut out all the shit with high fructose corn syrup. and fast food and walk more than i do drive and in the past 2 years i've lost well over 170 pounds +
believe me if a fat piece of shit like myself can do it, you can too :D
i went from 425+ pounds to roughly 250 pounds
i believe you can do it tyko!!!
the key is don't make excuses for yourself, and follow through with your goals and and most importantly believe you can do it!! :D
my weight used to be 225 but i'm around 195-203lbs at the moment. My goal weight is 160-170lbs. That's around 30-40. I already lost 30lbs and it took around 4months. I expect it will take me another 4-6 months to get to my ideal weight of 170 for a 6"2 male. I'm aiming for 10lbs lower because they say, one gains 5-10lbs daily but looses it daily(due to eating, etc).
you can do it man, you learned Japanese and you can do this too! I've learned it's 90% mental and 10% just doing it. This applies to loosing weight and learning another language. (p.s. this is my new account, used to be atech14 but my other account got deleted due to copyright).
Yay! I'm losing weight too. I was 415lbs and now I've dropped to 376 and plan to be 350 by the end of October. Everyone losing weight: LETS DO IT YO! >:D
This is very worthwhile goal, and especially important when you're young; losing weight gets more difficult as you get older (and have to deal with more health issues). I wish you the best of luck, and I know a lot of your viewers are pulling for you as well.
I can relate, sir. I am also a 300-pound American gaijin living in Japan (Ibaraki). Getting married in December and trying to drop the bulk of my bulbousness for the wedding (and, you know, heath and shit). From one vlogger to another, I'd appreciate you checking out my videos. Going through your uploads and loving them. Keep up the good work, dude.
I was alright with my weight. I wasn't have health problems and my dating life was fine.
The only time I actually felt fat was a few years ago. I was dating this Japanese guy who is a 'chubby chaser' Before, any Asians I dated didn't care about my weight, they didn't see it as a problem. But this guy lovedddd my weight. You'd think I'd be thrilled but he was so creepy, that I had to break up with him because I couldn't take his 'compliments' anymore.
@JayTheCommentator I think this advice represents the conventional wisdom on weight loss, so I'll offer my opinion as it differs drastically. Don't drink soda or junk unless you can't go cold turkey and need to ween yourself off of it. It does nothing but hurt you; you have to make a psychological change when it comes to food. Don't worry about doing a lot of cardio. If you enjoy it, fine, but the most important thing to develop are your muscles fast-twitch muscle fibers. This means...cont.
@aofsamos...interval and weight training, not jogging forever. I recommend exercise, but the fact is you don't need it to lose fat. The primary cause of fat gain is the production of insulin, which occurs when your blood sugar is raised, which is the result of the consumption of carbohydrates. So while everyone at your office is telling you that pineapples and bread are "healthy", you need to avoid that stuff like the plague. Don't worry about how much you sit or stand.
As a fan, I am so happy you have decided to do this. I highly recommend a documentary called "Fat Head". It will explain why, if you want to be healthy and lose weight, you have to cut down on the carbs. So no beer. Sorry... :) Also, do weight training! A low carb diet and a good resistance training program will allow you to get the most dramatic results. Just my 2 yen. Good luck bro.
You might want to check out the 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. He has a Slow Carb Diet that lets you eat anything except things that are "white". So no bread, rice, potatoes, no brown rice, corn, etc, etc.
You can eat as much beef, fish, chicken, pork, beans, and veggies you want but no starchy foods.
Plus don`t forget to walk, cycle, swim, or whatever form of exercise you like, and do it regularly!
Hey nice video, your Japanese is really good! I recently saw a Google Talk about the weight problems in America and also abroad that really changed the way I thought about weight. This video will absolutely help you without question. The speaker's name is Gary Taubes. Just search youtube for his name. Good luck!
I believe you can do it. Just take it one step at a time. remember there will be times when the weight will go down fast and others well you will lose almost nothing but do not give up.
I liked the idea in Gimmeeaflake man's vid about setting small goals at a time 5 kilos first then 20 then keep going. If you get the idea. You will see some progress faster.
Take care and keep your diets safe. I have seen you a couple of times around if I see you again I will say hey.
I started a new diet about a month ago. I don't exactly know how to put it into 500 words or less so here is my blog that I've been writing in biweekly about my progress. duckonamission (dot) blogspot (dot) com If you actually stay on track, you will probably lose more. I on the other hand have been struggling with motivation so my numbers have been going down.
Congrats on the new motivation, and good luck! I'd make it a two year plan. Two years goes by really quick, and at the end of it you'll look and feel terrific. If you lose too fast, your skin won't catch up.
imma be the first one to say it but TkyoSam and heavy dude go hand in hand, it's like part of your persona. :D
my advice, go for a SLOW and steady weight loss. i personally don't subscribe to "eat only" or "cut out" diets. monitoring your food intake and being aware of what you eat is key to finding a healthy balance. exercise is important but it must be appropriate for your weight, don't start jogging with 130kg.
if you lose weight fast you may not be able to get your body into the right shape.
Just a quick tip on your Japanese, you throw in some の's where there shouldn't be any. Like saying 太ってるの外人 or 日本にいるの外人 or Joe Crossっていうの人は, the の's in there are incorrect because the verb should modify the noun directly. I AJATT, too, so, just trying to help a fellow student of Japanese out!
Japan is a great place to diet ^^ Go swim ! Or if you join a fitness club, you 'll have cycling machines too when you are sitting while cycling so your weight does not kill your articulations while you work out. I am sure if you just counted calories 2200/2000 you'll reach you're goal weight in 1/2 years, and you'll be able to eat what you like to eat and drink without overexercizing. You can do this just watch out for the nasty rebound ! Punches me in the face everytime!
A couple small tips, spicy food is great for a bit of a metabolic boost, and if you can limit alcohol consumption. Booze not only is empty calories, but it also increases appetite for greasy foods. But I know personally that is a hard thing to do, so if you can maybe switch from beer to vodka. It gets you 'there' quicker, and less carbs vs other alcohols.
Good luck! I'm sure if you just be consistant you can reach your goal! its just important to know you most probably wont start losing weight until the first month or so, so please dont give up! It took me foreverrrrrrr to lose 6 kilos~! haha good luck!
I was a fat kid. Then I started playing DDR. Lost a ton of weight (excercise is great). Became a skinny teenager. Started working, didn't make time for DDR any more. Sat at a desk 9-5. Now a fat geezer again. Excercise is bosslike for weight control.
I'd suggest a water fast. I just came off a 1 month water fast and dropped from 120 to 95kg without any exercise whatsoever. Just a little weightlifting to prevent muscle deterioration. And my weight didnt bounce back up.
Do you own research to find out about health risks and benefits and decide if it's good for you or not.
If you ever try it. Don't quit after 3 days. The first 3 days are really the hardest and after a week it's easy as hell, just self control. Its rly hard to restart.
My dad is doing a diet recently that is more change of eating than a real diet... for the first to days you are only allowed to eat protein ...like shakes, meat and stuff...
and later other things are added vegetables and even later carbohydrate... He is also doing exercises... I think that helps much more than only eating apples or something^^
and you can eat almost everything... my father also enjoys it because he can eat meat all the time ;-)
Not that my Japanese is great (not by a long shot), but I'm really picking up your English accent. You sound pretty fluent, though. I wonder how you, and I for that matter, sound to a native speaker of Japanese. We will truly never know exactly what it feels like. Of course, we can pick out any slight accents in English, but I'm talking about the feeling/effect it gives to Japanese folks. I hope you can smash them keylows off! I've got a few to shed myself.
Good luck, losing weight on crash diets just causes more weight gain in the end, so don't force yourself man. If you manage to do it you'll be more of an inspiration to me than you are now.
Search on yt or on the net different exercises and do the easy ones at first, any exercise will do, and only a few reps at first, like 5-10 but many series of reps with brakes, every 2 days take a day off, this is very important.
As for the food, try having 2 meals a day (eggs, milk and vegetables are a must), and never eat at night, and when you feel you can do it start having only one meal a day, but that's for later when you are healthy enough, and don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, good luck.
@SilverGunZoO wow bad advice man...one meal a day? that means that he had to cram all his calories in one meal, and its gonna sit there for the rest of the day and be converted to fat...and no not any exercise will do, curling dumbbells won't to anything to help him lose fat
better to eat 6-8 small meals to keep his metabolism high and do some mild cardio every day, ramping it up every couple of weeks + lifting heavy if you're prepared for that, and keep the carbs low/medium
Sam, many have made the point worth restating. You will have to cut down on “o-sake”. Alcohol has a lot of calories, all empty calories, no nutrition. + stay away from fast/fried food. Eat more of a traditional Japanese diet. Lot of gohan + vegs, (fiber) will keep you feeling full. Keep moving (exercise) Keep motivated. Ganbatte!
check out the youtube channel lose2gain or lose to gain i forgot how it spelled it, nor do i know what the guy is up to recently, but he was hardcore. i think he lost like 300 pounds or something.
Hey I saw that documentary on netflix and was also inspired to lose weight,
I used to weigh 180 lbs in highschool now Im 28 years old and weigh 265 lbs.
I just need to buy me a juicer to get started.. also I need to quit drinking which will be very hard to do because all my friends drink... good luck to you Sam!
im not racist but ... lol wasted ur time learing japanese ... the only thing u get is talking like this guy in the web ... u want know what lenguaje u guys shud learn ? Mandarin,English,Spanish. thats all ... i know my english is bad but not bad tbh xD
Wow. Sam, sounds like you are totally motivated to lose weight bro. Good for you, I wish you all the best of luck with this new lifestyle change! Peace
If ur serious I'd recommend an approach like the Zone Diet or South Beach Diet. They aren't fad diets, but rather rational approaches to sustained healthy eating. They call for moderate carbs (low glycemic index ones are best), moderate protein, and moderate fat (monounsaturated). By stabilizing blood sugar levels, appetite is suppressed and u have more energy. Not hard to follow but you'll have to reduce the white rice, noodles, and those baddass bakeries. And workout! Gym, martial arts etc..
I was thinking the same thing. It shouldn't be too hard to lose weight here. I came to Japan at around 185-190 pounds? After 1 1/2 years im 165. With no working out. And almost never went to a fast food place here. So Sam just stay away from the golden arches and all the other fast food places here and you'll lose weight quick. Also unfortunately you have to cut back on the drinking too :O Good luck.
Good luck to you mate but you can't lose too much weight because it's part of your thing. And please upload videos more frequently as we're hungry...Also tell us what life's like for you nowadays, you think of staying in japan for good or going back to america someday. We demand to know all...
Sam you're one crazy bastard but you really are one of the most positive, upbeat dudes I've seen on youtube. If you say you're gonna do it, you probably will. Good luck bro. Take care of yourself so that you're fucking bitches and being black black for many years to come.
I think the biggest thing to losing weight is analyzing one's thoughts when desiring to eat when one knows they shouldn't. I have at times found myself trying to rationalize my food intake with some bullshit reason.
what's your plan!? I was once 235 pounds and now im 170 pounds. You gotta cut calories over time gradually and increase physical activity. Eventually start jogging and keep active. I jogged 2 miles a day for 30 days straight to knock off the last 10 pounds.
Yoo Sam what's good bro?!! For your diet I don't want you to kill yourself or anything I know some friends that like starve themselves to near death in order to loose weight.
Anyways here a tip, minimize the amount of carbs you consume and ELIMINATE your sugar intake that is OUTSIDE of natural fruit. Only drink water\milk, consume lots of fat(meat n shits actually really good for u) and protein, veggies are great too specially the really green ones and fruits should be your only source of sugar
GL man, you got your CO peeps rooting for you. Ive gone from 295 down to 235 so far and have the goal of 180, Im sure youll do fine if you just stick with it.
damn.. 300 pounds O_O good luck with your diet just remember to stay busy throughout the day so you don't think about food, and don't drink too much alcohol.
Read Good Calories Bad Calories Sam, try a very low carbohydrate diet, eat fat and protein. Youtube search Gary Taubes and watch one of his lectures on obesity bro. You can lose weight with little effort just like i did.
@Ky0uran Yeah very true, if he were to read the book he would could learn about the potential connection of high carbohydrate intake and the diseases of civilization which might well be a single disease resulting from carbohydrate and grain intake. Read up that shit Sam for Shizzle.
Good luck Sam! It's damn hard work but you can do it if you do this kind of thing for the right reasons, it's way easier to stick too ;D I'll be cheering you on!
GoodLuck! Karate keeps me in shape so I have to recommend that. I did Karate when I was younger and then I stopped for a while, but as soon as I hit 25, I started gaining weight. Then I started doing Karate again here in Japan and now I'm back to my normal weight of 75 kgs. Losing weight was easy, but gaining muscle is hard! Takes a lot of weightlifting and eating healthy!
Gambare!
Sam, I am going to do this with you, I am about the same weight, and having someone to lose weight with, will make it easier for me to stick with it. Keep posting those videos. Stay black & thinner!
I would say best of luck, but you won't need it. Kick that extra shit in it's shit! P.S. If you're at all interested in running you should check out the "couch to 5k" program. It's awesome and breaks down running into little chunks all the way up till running about 3 or 4 miles at a go.
IMO, I've found out for myself that I've lost more weight when the less I think about it. I look at my friends whom are thin and closely observe their lifestyle. From what I gather its not about having a particular speciality diet. It's more from just staying active, being selective on what you put in your mouth (no homo) and just always moving.
Great samurai imitation!

Cerbberos 6 months ago
@Cerbberos Well I only eat one meal a day and I have 5% body fat.

Ganbatte!

Gym, martial arts etc..
shimewaza 6 months ago
I was thinking the same thing. It shouldn't be too hard to lose weight here. I came to Japan at around 185-190 pounds? After 1 1/2 years im 165. With no working out. And almost never went to a fast food place here. So Sam just stay away from the golden arches and all the other fast food places here and you'll lose weight quick. Also unfortunately you have to cut back on the drinking too :O Good luck.

I think the biggest thing to losing weight is analyzing one's thoughts when desiring to eat when one knows they shouldn't. I have at times found myself trying to rationalize my food intake with some bullshit reason.

Read Good Calories Bad Calories Sam, try a very low carbohydrate diet, eat fat and protein. Youtube search Gary Taubes and watch one of his lectures on obesity bro. You can lose weight with little effort just like i did.

@0hmyy0utubeusername I would recommend the same. Not just for for losing weight, but for health in general.
Ky0uran 6 months ago
@Ky0uran Yeah very true, if he were to read the book he would could learn about the potential connection of high carbohydrate intake and the diseases of civilization which might well be a single disease resulting from carbohydrate and grain intake. Read up that shit Sam for Shizzle.

N***a HUSH!
1. Start pumping some fucking iron.
2. Eat salad and meat (Chicken breast, Tona, Salmon and so on).
3. Eat 5-6 times a day, try to keep your refrigerator full with food (look above) so you dont eat chips/candy and stuff.
4. Once a week (Saturday is a good day), eat whatever you want.
