hi there! just wanted to thank you for all the info.I have learned so much from your videos. You do a wonderful job . also where ,are you located.I,m in north ga ,usa . thanks again david ringo
@jerrydff7 yes you can actually buy a bag from the store and i usually let them go for a month or so and the eyes begin sprouting in the bag cut them into pieces so that each has a couple eyes and plant away.
It seems like a lot of fun to grow your own food. The only thing I'll never grow are tomatoes. Last time I had them there were huge yellow spiders. I'm arachnophobic.
My plants were planted about 2 months back and are over 1m tall with LOTS of green leaves. I have hilled them up about 12" so far. They havent flowered yet so what i need to know is.. when can i dig them up? Also, someone told me you can bring the potatoes up but leave the plant to regrow more on the same plant. Is this true?
I don't know about reusing the plant, but you can harvest potatoes early whenever you want, they would just be small. For mature potatoes you want to harvest after the vines turn brown and are dead and dry.
Potatoes should be planted 5 or 6 inches in the ground. You planted kind of shallow. If a potato emerges from the ground, the sun causes it to produce a toxin (and it turns green). Potatoes are in the Nightshade family (along with Poinsettas, tomatoes and peppers.

can i use dog poop?
jerrydff7 1 year ago
@jerrydff7 I've heard that you don't want to use manure from meat eating animals. Cows and horses are fine.

It'd be nice to do a follow up video after they've grown up or when you're getting ready to harvest them! Thanks

Thank you. Now, how long do they have to stay in the containers?
itisoktobeme 2 years ago
Until the plant dies. Leave one or two for next batch.

Thanks! Can you plant sweet potatoes this way?
sheeplesz 3 years ago 2
Yes.
WoundedEgo 2 years ago
plant sweet potatoe in shallow dirt , so 20- 30 cm below surface is hard .then they wont grow long and skinny.they.will be short and fat.
crispyz19 2 years ago
Awesome. Thanks for that.
Now I have to plant some, even though it's the end of summer in Holland.
I heard that when you keep adding soil while the plant grows, a single plant can produce huge amounts of spuds.

yep plant them potatoes down towards the bottom. then heap them up.potatoes grow above the seed. up the stem

Great ideas!!! Keep them coming!!!

sorry but I`m not german. But I think you said something like : because it`s cool. I`m from Holland so I understand some=P
flashback1234 3 years ago
Because it's super hammer cool, indeed! :)
German must be one of the most ridiculous languages on earth.
scrumptiousvittles 3 years ago
It sounds like a type-writer, with tin-foil paper, falling down a flight of stairs.
Ick Iena shctack vas zinc.
As you can tell my German is steeped in ignorance, but the analogy works.

Stupid question, I guess...but are potatoes a fall/winter crop? Will they be ready to harvest in winter or spring?
greentxmama 3 years ago
Is it cold out? I noticed the winter hat and the jacket. How is the rest of your garden doing?
