  • were can i get the filter

  • there is nothing in the dirty water than isn't killed by chlorine, water soluble, and smaller than 0.5 microns? thanks.

  • @benjie414 chlorine is the only chemical known to man that kills everything. + boiling, theres no chance

  • way cool video. I will be buying 2 of these filters. I just love your dog. He (or she ) is so darn cute. Keep making videos.

  • Its good to know that Netflix will deliver to my survival cabin.

  • Thanks for the video, was great!

  • Thanks for the paper Li, it is exellent

  • Read this simple paper, it explains very nicely the manufacturing and physics,

    Plappally A K, I. Yakub, L C Brown, W O Soboyejo and A B O Soboyejo , 2011, Physical Properties of Porous Clay Ceramic-Ware, Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, ASME, 113 (3):311004-1-311004-9

  • You are the first I've seen actually drinking the dirty filtered water. I just bought one of these and I think I made a good choice. Thanks!

  • Wood flooring, overalls, bottom of filter bucket placed on dog-bed (on the filtered side), and a Wal-mart reference.

Thanks for posting! Luckily I can get .2 micron filters at my work, for cost. So I will stock up on those... if not, I will see about the ones your video was about.

Again, Thanks. I was looking at those ceramic filters too.

  • One word... FANTASTIC! Thanks.

  • 3 people enjoy Dysentery

  • Aww bless you. Such a cute natural presenting style - I laughed through the whole video. You don't need a woman to do the videos, the honest, raw at home style is lovely. Thanks for posting. Keep going! ; )

  • I just bought one of these. I love it. As good as, and a tenth of the price of a Berkey.

  • nice min pin

  • Dsarti, Outstanding video Thanks for posting it. Would a half spoon of

Unsented Clorox work as good as the sodium hypoclorite?

    Thanks

  • if you use a clothe to grab the large material and a slow sand filter, then allow th water to set in direct sunlight for 6 hours the slow sand filter again you dont need to buy anything...

  • "It doesn't even have the chlorine taste anymore?" Wait, so you tasted it when it was chlorinated dookie water? Tehee. JK y'all.

And, um- That's pretty much the filter I'm trying to construct. I'm interested in making my own ceramic filtration thingie as opposed to purchasing one. I forgot if you mentioned it but, I'm pretty sure you bought your's. If not great job. And, how did ya do it?

Also, I noticed a spray bottle labeled SILVER WATER. How did that get in there? Did you spray that on?

  • nice I went out and got one. Thanks! AR redneck

  • You`r a Charmer ! :)

    Good Video !

  • Nice...but those ceramic filters don't last and the stores are closed.

The real answer is biosand filter, maintained properly they can clean large volumes of water for free.

  • Larry the Cable Guy has put on some weight.

  • Parasites and bacteria are smaller than 0.5 microns, I would suggest that you still boil your water for 20 minutes. Especially Dookie water.

  • @hydrobot2003 he used chemical shock.. check the start again! Yes he touched it with bare hands but hey.. no one is perfect (gloves or spoon!).

  • @vashguud - i'd be even more afraid to drink the chemicals then... is a ceramic filter100% chemical removal??

  • @hydrobot2003 it evaporates. Buy a Berkey drip filter and household bleach (regular .. no scent or additives). If you don't want to build one like this.

  • @hydrobot2003 They make filters for the Berkey rigs that cost $100 for 2 each. paying $25 for one clearly is too good to be true.

  • Cute at 5:01 little doggy being nosey. Whatcha making dad?

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • You should wait to add the chlorine until after it is filtered. Otherwise, the chlorine is used up attacking the debris in the water, not the microbes. (also, your dog peed in the bucket when you weren't looking.. kidding).

  • Thanks for the instrutions man! I just ordered this filter from Cheaper than Dirt and it came in today. I sat there looking at it wondering how the hell it worked. Thanks for the video!

  • Hmm who needs a berkey???

  • Where do you find that powdered bleach. I just bought this filteration system. Thanks

  • Great review. Thanks

  • hey so is the link you put a link to the same filter?

  • cdltpx- he is just showing people how easy it is to do it, you can do it the right way yourself.

  • Where can I find the powdered bleech?

  • sodium hypoclorite... Swimming pool super shock

  • surely would it not be better to put the bleach in the filtered water than of the mud water

  • @dsarti1

DO NOT USE SODIUM Hypochlorite. You should use HTH Calcium Hypochlorite - Pool Shock.

  • @neotracer075

Calcium Hypochlorite pool shock DONOT use anything with extra chemicals. It should have no other ""Active chemicals". It will most likely have "fillers" listed as "other ingredients" That is ok.

    epa.gov/ogwdw000/faq/emerg.html

  • @neotracer075 any swimming pool dealership and/or store shock-it hydro clorite

  • This is liable to become one of my big messes.. LOL.

  • Sweet! Good info man!

    Thanks!

  • When I get some extra money I'm going to have to buy one, and try that.

  • I just got my filter today guess mine had to wait so long because I got both the under sink filter and the one like you got.

  • What sucks is I ordered mine Feb3 probably a week ahead of you and here it is march4 mine arrives wow. If someone had water that was clear but just had a funky taste that is probably H2s and this filter can remove that but if that is your only problem you might just want to build a plain old activated charcoal filter and could save even more money walmart sells a nice size container $7 and you can make a lotta filers from that amount of charcoal.

  • charcoal does not filter. it absorbs imputitys the cerimac filter removes all matter a virus attaches to and pathogens. Charcoal is there mainly for taste and clorine removal

  • This product does not profess to kll virus since it is reported to be at best a .5 micron filter effective virus removal occurs at .02 micron levels. Hence the reason to use a chemical agent such as chloriene in your process. Other ways to kill virus is heat, boiling is not necessary but a 30 min temp of 160F should do. Uv light is another way to kill virus either from direct sunlight or manmade. Silver impregnated filters have a history of food safety as long as long as range is .03-.05ppm.

  • I ma not an expert on the subject I have consulted books on water and the subject is far more important than people give it credit. Please condult your local library there are books on this subject where fact checkers insure their numbers are accurate. I personally don't posess the equipment to certify the flow rate of a filter handed to me. We have to rely on the claims made by persons that are experts in this science. Add 5 drops unscented bleach pergallon of clean H20 to store for emergency.

  • @cdltpx

Nice to see someone offering to educate here in a way that most people need to understand. To add to cdltpx's comment the 0.5 micron rating is not indicated here if it is absolute or a nominal micron rating? This can make quite a difference and if it is mis-marketed like most it is probably stating a 0.5 nominal micron rating which would mean you could have some large pores in the filter.

  • Filter definition=a. A porous material through which a liquid or gas is passed in order to separate the fluid from suspended particulate matter.

    b. A device containing such a material, especially one used to extract impurities from air or water.

The towel you used is a filter just not the level where organics and other particulates could be removed. A tighter mesh or micron of filter is needed to insure certian levels of desired purity. Activated charcoal is an effective filter depending on..

  • what is in that water. Most water will contain levels of virus but when certian levels are exceeded then the consumers safety is at risk. Other risk can be cross contaminates such as placing your filter in the dogs bed. Frankly the entire discussion is arbitary if you will not insure proper handling methods of a food service device.

  • the thing about virus in water is that the actual virus is seldom in the water alone most times it has attached to some particulate matter in the water so by filtering the particulate matter out you will get most of thew viruses.. but why not play it safe and clorinate thenn filter

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • Nice video man

  • Great tool does the work for you letting you concentrate on security, farming and maintenance.... instead of siting around pumping water..simple and to the point tool.great vid

  • Great video. I'll have to get one of these.

Remind us a day before you do your T.V. show.

  • I'd like to force Yankeeprepper to drink that "dookie water"!!! lol

Anyway, another awesome hands-on vid! You really do some interesting stuff.

BTW: Whats good bleach? I hear Walmart has "HTH Pool Shock" which is a pool chem! Is that any good??

    thx

  • good video! - I have built same system for my family using Berkey water filters/purifiers, and am currently refilling my clear water jugs using tap water through the Berkey filters, but would be ok using dirtier water, cause their good filters, just would have to clean more often with a scotch pad. 5 stars for solid info!

  • I would assume that if you had more water in the bucket it would drip faster due to the weight of the water, nice work

  • The instructions for the use of this device recommends you clean with a 3m pad prior to first use.

Then you shoud remove filter every 2 weeks and clean with with hot water (NO SOAP ON FILTER)soft tooth brush and 3m pad.

Usually takes several days for flow rate to increase to 1 GPH. If flow rate is slow clean filter and keep filter sleeve full.

Once you begin use activated charcoal in this filter is only good for 6 to 8 months. Unused shelf life expected to be 2 or 3 years.

  • 5/5 stars thanks for the info.

  • another great vid help ful as always thank you

  • That will be your last video. RIP.

    LOL. Just kidding, dsarti.

We've got a similar setup hooked up to our desalinator.

  • desalinator??? unless your talking about uncle billy bob's old wiskey still....those are expencive

  • @dsarti1

A still is a good way to do it. After running through the sediment filter (shirt, towel, etc), we just stick a gallon glass bottle under a fresnel lens and the sun, and let solar radiation kill whatever is in the ocean water, while steaming and condensing into a clean container. Takes about half an hour per gallon. Copper tubing between two gallon containers. Don't use plastic, it will melt.

We get about 90 oz of distilled water. Then we might run it through the ceramic filter.

  • Dude you activated your charcoal, even though its only for taste. Great vid shows how the filter works.

  • Cool vid man and nice filter!

    Five Stars!!

  • whered you get the blech

  • Ever see them use SOLAR to distill water with a FRESNEL LENS? /watch?v=aXjMAItCMl0 It's pretty cool. Good video Dsarti1 showing the filter you have. Slow but works good. 5/5

  • Where do you get the powdered bleach? or is it the pool shock that I have seen on other videos?

  • Another great video.
