  • Run'n shoot is just like the air raid

  • @seanman70 no its not

  • @MrDeezyskillets pretty much is dude. have to have fast lineman receiver to get to a certain point on a dime. Just like the air raid

  • uhh isnt that just a spread?

  • @hokiebird295 that depends on what you mean by "spread." Is spread just any team that uses alot of wide receivers? Or is spread the spread option offense used by Rich Rod, Brian Kelly, and Chip Kelly. There is a big difference in passing plays and concepts between the Run and Shoot and the stuff Rich Rod and the Kellys do.

  • @hokiebird295 No.

The Run & Shoot is a pass first offense.

The run and shoot is very basic formation wise: 4 WRs, either trips, or 2 by 2. 5 wide is used very rarely.

You will also never have a TE on the field.

"The Spread" has much more formation variety: Shotgun Pro Sets, Trips or felx with a TE, Power sets with a fullck or TE in the backfield, quad formations, empty backfield, etc.

  • @nykia31 oooooooooooo ok thanks

  • @hokiebird295 yeah it is the spread, the formation is the spread but the passing routes and concepts is whats the run n shoot

  • Air Raid, is different then a pure Run & Shoot. Run & Shoot is totally committed to 4 and 5 WRs all of the time, and lots of trip and quad sets. There arent a lot of formations..but every pass play has infinite option route variations.

Air Raid, and most spread offenses have scripted routes..in a pure Run & Shoot, the QB and the WRs need to read the D together, and in sync.

    There are no predetermined routes.

  • Yes Crimson but he was on his way to making the program respectable now he's in Texas doing the same thing with SMU

  • Jones took SMU to their first bowl win in like 20 years... always loved watching this offense even in the early 90's when Detroit, Houston, and Atlanta used it in the NFL.

  • chuck and duck! chuck and duck! go ponies!

  • That is one hell of a complicated system for the QB and wideouts.

  • He just signed a two-year extension at smu.

  • june jones will return to hawaii in about 3 years

  • i hope

  • he returned last month lol

  • @cephus76 NO WAY HE'S STAYING PUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He was great in Hawaii...I miss him here, Our new coach changed us sooo much....its basically a new team, with new uniforms and everything. He is the MASTER of the Run and shoot!!!

  • i hate people who ring their hands.

  • Bob Davie seems like he has never played a down of football in his life!

  • he's asking to help out people like you who have not

  • smu's 1-11 so far, that sucks... i hope you can do better next year

  • @ThePlaymaker15

    They did.

  • Hey playmaker Jones started out slow at Hawaii but eventually turned the school into a powerhouse so give him time.

  • @dal4018

No doubt June Jones is a quality coach but to call Hawaii a powerhouse is a bit overboard wouldn't you say?

  • @CrimsonCuda I think Hawaii was certainly a powerhouse in Jones' last season there.

  • Darrell "Mouse" Davis also took the Run & Shoot offense which he learned from Glenn "Tiger" Ellison, and made it into a more pass-heavy offense in contrast to Ellison's Run & Shoot which was more geared toward the run.

  • Mike Leach's Texas Tech Red Raiders run an offense, known as the Air Raid Offense, that uses the same or similar formations, but is even more pass-oriented than June Jones' Run & Shoot. In fact, I think the Run & Shoot is 67% pass-oriented, while the Air Raid is 80% pass-oriented.

  • what the hell do you mean by pass oriented? texas tech runs a version of the run and shoot and hawaii passes 95% of the time... hawaii is usually in the top 3 passing teams in the nation to prove it too...

  • I have a ticket to SMU-UCF tomorrow, should I go to that game?

  • this offense will be explosive but it is going to take some time for Bo levi to learn the system

  • good call hpslugga. you explained the reads very well. The tampa II mike could never get to WR#2 in the seem and the CB to that side must choose the flat route. That makes the SS to the trips side responsible for the seem read and the go route. no matter what, he will always be wrong. Damn I love this offense

  • Great video. Is this the same offense that Mike Leach runs at Texas Tech? I notice there they sometimes have two backs in the backfield and three wide reicevers.

  • You know, I'm not entirely sure. I'd love to find out, and if Leach did something with ESPN like Jones did a few months ago, it could shed some light on it. What's weird is that while I get what makes June Jones' offense tick, I still don't have a 100% grasp on Leach's offense.

  • @SaturdaySoundOffsTV Leach's offense is called The Air Raid offense. Its not quite the same as the run and shoot.

  • @SaturdaySoundOffsTV

No its not. The Air Raid does use some run n shoot concepts, like 4 wide sets, audibling in and out of plays based on how many defenders are in the "box", etc, but the air raid is more of a west coast style offense, meaning they use short passes as an extention of, or even a replacement for, the run game. The Run n Shoot is a deep passing, high scoring offense that doesnt focus much on ball control, if at all

  • @SaturdaySoundOffsTV They run what's called an "Air Raid" OKST, WVU, and Houston run these along with TTU. SMU is different than this.

  • @SaturdaySoundOffsTV mike linch runs air ride.... its different

  • No, there are similarities, but the Leach system is based on the Mumme spread

If you put a TTU player in the run and shoot or vice versa, they'd be totally lost

  • jones runs the mouse davis run and shoot and basically took out the motion

  • @RandomStuffandJunk Leach doesn't have his receivers reading after the snap. Leach also uses a lot more formation

  • Comment removed

  • @RandomStuffandJunk IIm pretty sure that Texas Tech runs the Air Raid offense

  • @RandomStuffandJunk Leach's Offense is the Air Raid. It's very similar, but not the same.

  • simmdogg 8. because of the great success of this offense is the reason I want to know more. I am a former college football coach and I would of loved to have ran this offense. he just explained the GO ROUTE play versus one look. I gave several other situations a WR may face and I just wish I had the answers. The presentation was incomplete. Although I understand why it would be... I still wish for a more complete teaching

  • I would like to get into coaching. How does one do that? Are their any internships? I mean, starting off on the lowest rung of the totem poll and learning as you go.

  • cheyney: I coach this offense in high school. In the traditional case of the cover 2, certainly the press man, the corners are rolled up before the snap. We tell our quarterback to read the play "outside to in" meaning we tell him to look at the Z first. If he has trouble getting a clean release and if it's press man, we tell the slot that's running the quick out to run his route at an angle that can most likely cause his defender to get caught in traffic between the 2 and the defender over him.

  • y i would like to playfootball were ever june jones coaches

  • what happens versus cover two or man to man press when the #2 receiver can not get off the ball? what about a tampa 2 where the stud LB will sit right in that whole the wr is running to? what about vs a 335 where there could be 2 lb's in the hole

  • what about this, what about that...just take a look at Coach Jones resume with his Run n Shoot...check NCAA record books...

  • The records and what not are irrelevant to the question. He simply wants to know.

  • If the 2 receiver cannot get off the ball, it's because the CB is solely focused on taking him out of the play. This means the quick out will be open because no one is supposed to account for that underneath area besides that CB. Also, the outside slot receiver is supposed to run a seam read, so if it's a 2 deep, he'll run a post. In Tampa 2, we treat it as a 2 and tell the QB to read the CB. The CB can only take 1 of those 2 out of the play at a time (think of the TOG concept)
