I was meaning tyrant in the metaphorical sense, but if you're looking for literal...Some people consider Bush to be a tyrant, some expect Obama will be. Not exactly correct, but, like I said, metaphorical.

For example you could say that any US president involved with the Vietnam war, and senior members of their administrations were tyrants as far as the Vietnamese people were concerned, with that war claiming 2-4 million lives and wrecking the country. Look at the Iraq war in the same way to identify other tyrants. In fact you could look at the whole history of colonialism to get lots of other examples from the ranks of leaders of capitalist countries.
The word "tyrant" has a bit of a history. You're right as far as the modern usage of the word is concerned, but classically the definition was less precise meaning something like "illegitimate ruler and despot" which could be applied more broadly.

Carlin has the unusual talent to say what I've tried to say to people in the most cogent, precise way. I study politics but don't vote. There's a two party system for a reason, two sides of the same club acting out the show. Obama is the new puppet to replace Bush, and was necessary to appease the angry masses. P. Diddy made voting embarrassing with his "vote or die" campaign. Oh yeah, Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections with voting fraud.

@UNCERNTROPY Bush didn't win with fraud, although I do agree that Obama is the new puppet. What made Bush win was the way he reacted to 9/11, for he had low approval ratings before it, but after it, he responded so well that it proved his worth for reelection. Voting does count, think about it, if you don't think voting matters, then you convince more people to not vote, which results in a chain reaction of nobody voting and the changes that result from that aren't what they could've been.

Globalisation is a capitalist agenda. It's about breaking down protectionist barriers of countries in order to free up trade. Consequentially, we get the exploitation of foreign workers and resources to feed developed countries. So instead of Indian farmland being used to feed the hungry in India, we get them growing GM cotton to make t-shirts in America. Yay.

I would love to be in an activist organization, if you have any suggestions I´m happy to listen. Its just that all the organizations, parties, or anything to do with politics or social issues end up currupt or end up going the wrong path because of the masses. It seems the more people get together the more you loose the objective of things. Power, money and interest is what in the end dominates these movements, but if you have any good suggestions I would be happy to listen

I really love the guy and agree with most of his insight. But I think that if you vote you have a right to bitch if the delegate doesn't perform! If you were to hire someone to do a job, and they did a bad job you would have a say-so! I do agree with him on the government not giving a shit about the general public. I don´t mind people voting, but my question is, what has voting done so far? take 1916 for example, when Wilson was being endorsed by many workers in favor of not going to war, what happened when he was elected, in 1917 when Wilson asked for a declaration on war (not for the good of America, but for the good of the guys with big pockets full of money). What has changed over the years, simply we have less rights, the list is getting shorter. Last question, what would happen if no one voted?

Tyrant comes from Tyrannosaurus Rex, when archaeologists noticed that many of the dinosaurs were terrorized by the domineering nature of the T Rex. People started using the Tyrannosaurus to mean any person (especially a leader) who was as domineering. It was shortened to tyrant.

Depends on how you define "tyrant". For example you could say that any US president involved with the Vietnam war, and senior members of their administrations were tyrants as far as the Vietnamese people were concerned, with that war claiming 2-4 million lives and wrecking the country. Look at the Iraq war in the same way to identify other tyrants. In fact you could look at the whole history of colonialism to get lots of other examples from the ranks of leaders of capitalist countries.

The word "tyrant" has a bit of a history. You're right as far as the modern usage of the word is concerned, but classically the definition was less precise meaning something like "illegitimate ruler and despot" which could be applied more broadly.

out of the two choices available i would have chosen obama. but i decided not to vote today for a number of reasons. for one,the system is set up so that no matter how many popular votes someone gets,the electoral votes are always the deciding factore. this is why a third party will never win. plus, how do we even know that are votes are counted accurately. remeber in 04 with all the mix ups in florida and ohio. the elections could so easily be manipulated by the government.
