cosmic egg was a very underrated record the music and playing are better than the first record, but if nothing has that joker and the thief sound then people disconnect cause they want some 3 minute catchy song but the real music goers know what it's all about.

This song is inspired, it has so much soul I love it. To say it sounds like a Zeppelin tune well thats the first band I thought of when I first heard it... To be fair Zeppelin are a genre defining band. This tune if you ask me pays homage to them. It is perfectly acceptable to draw inspiration from other bands. They pull it off perfectly. It's great that music is still being written with that vibe.

Not really liking this song much, though I'm not a big fan of Wolfmother either. The lyrics seems really...cliched and I laughed a few times whilst listening. I've got no problem with drawing inspiration from an artist/genre as long as you bring something new but this doesn't quite fit the bill.

Whilst Daft Punk isn't a favorite group of mine anymore they are better than Wolfmother in terms of innovation and creating and defining a genre. Lyrics I can not compare for the obvious reasons. Bands today shouldn't be copying bands of the 70's as that was their time, they should how ever use the new technology we have to do to enhance the possibilities and build upon what they learn from previous bands. A good example of this is The Beta Band and also Sufjan Stevens for his classical touch.

Why progress forward if something already pleases your ears. Progressive music doesn't need to be progressive for the sake of being progressive, progressive music should be so for the fact that music fans want new music and a new style not because the band wants to seem alternative and hip. If audiences like what they hear, if the band is good at the music they make (whether that style was here 50 years ago is irrelevant) then why care?

My opinion is purely based upon the idea that if you continue with a pre-defined genre, whether the band is good at it or not, you won't go foward. As you stated progressive music should be there for those who want new music and new style, this song and much of Wolfmothers work is not new in terms of style. If you and other fans enjoy this then great, it has served it's purpose. I just believe that to go forward you have to experiment with new sounds and I don't believe Wolfmother are doing that

Music is music, music isn't technology, you don't need to go forward. The world doesn't work more efficiently when music evolves, I don't see the point of your argument.

The world does work better when music is more efficient. Music connects cultures together and helps express feelings that words can not especially in tough times. A few prolific examples of this is the uprising of blues in America and the music from the hippie movement (Give Peace a Chance for instance). If it weren't for creativity and original thought then those songs would have never been made along with the massive impact that they had. This song is no better than crappy radio pop.

Well those were specific to the cultural revolutions of the time, I can't really say there is one at the moment. I can honestly say if Wolfmother decide to produce old school rock singles as opposed to something like progressive trance or house (which is the dominant musical style of today), it really isn't going to have some global impact. Not to mention how shite some of the house music of today is.

@SyntheticEspionage My friend. You will Probably agree with me on this one, With all the respect you deserve, , of the people who listen to W, almost everyone recognizes their style. We know its vintage.But when when you are a musician, you will feel better playing what you like. To be at their level as a musician, you and all of us know you need to experiment a lot with music. These guys, I´m pretty shure they have played from metal to cumbias, and can play more than one non-rock instrument.

@Gazmanaust and also, why go foward? Why go on and invent an electric car when petrol cars work fine? It's all about innovation. If I wanted to listen to this type of music I would listen Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. There is no need to re-invent the wheel. We wouldn't go any where if everybody copied what has already been done, would we?

well i got news for you buddy, wolfmother is unique! Everyband is unique, i am a huge zep and floyd fan, and wolfmother is different! And why do i listen to both led zeppelin and wolfmother!?!?!? because they are different! What your saying (i could be misunderstand what your saying) is that you only listen to the best band out of a certain genre, which is kinda bogus if you do. wm is awesome because they have huge personality and love in the music, they arent perfect, thats why i listento them!

Wolfmother is the best band to come out in quite a while. I think that when we look back 20 years from now, we'll look back at when Wolfmother started the badly needed revolution we need, when they did away with all the crap music thats out there now (like a certain guy who's first name starts with M and last with P, you can get killed for ripping him ya know!). They'll be the start and more great bands will follow. But Wolfmother will be legendary soon.
