On two different occasions I've seen guys snap their necks and have to get taken out by way of ambulance. Unfortunately one of those times the guy was permanently paralyzed. If you don't know what you are doing, it's best to stay out of the water on big days. I've bodysurfed on days where it's like 8 feet, and even then it's super powerful. Definitely need to respect the ocean there...

One thing about it though is that the wipeout is generally over with a bit quicker at the wedge than at a similarly sized standard reef or beachbreak

You know, labeling this as a whipeout vid is kinda a misnomer. A large majority of the riders, including myself, at the wedge never plan on "making" the wave. It's all about riding mother nature's fury and havin fun with it while you get worked. An interesting video to see would be all 'made' waves from the wedge. I've been sponging/bodysurfing there off and on for almost 15 years and I can count the pits and airs I pulled on the bigger days on my fingers.
