  • Three things that bothered me about The Grudge.

    1. There are more white people than Asian people in a Japanese university.

    2. In the sequel, everyone is speaking English in Japan.

    3. Japanese people speak perfect English to EACH OTHER! Even those old people, and on television! Do these movies take place in an alternate universe where westerners colonized Japan and they never went into isolation?

On a lesser note, I like it how every character had a white boyfriend. Where are the Asian dudes?

  • Thank you for defending our cinema, we appreciate it! ^__^ Akiko - Kyoto, Japan

  • if that's the case setting up the remake better, they need to stop whitewashing, but hollywood is too prejudice for that.

  • thx for respecting asian movie.. asian is pretty sad their wonderful movies cause never gets respected and credit by the western

  • there are alot of movies from asia that is been remade, not just horrow. there are dramas/action/comedy.

e.g.the departed, my sassy girl, eight below, shall we dance, the magnificient seven.etc...so they have been doing remakes for a while.

Then again alot of countries borrow ideas from all over the world, not just hollywood.

  • Oh. The Uninvited was so terrible. T_T I didn't know it was a remake... and then when I realized it was I got rather angry. T_T Oh, Hollywood, please die.

  • Anyone realized how "Paranormal Activity" is a rip-off of "Noroi"...? -___- what a fail.

  • don't forget how they also cast white people in the leading roles, do we really need white people in japan...or relocate the entire setting to america, couldn't they just keep asian people in the lead role?

  • I usually never say this about a certain movie but 1 Missed Call was a piece of krap. I was mad when I found out they made a remake of that.

  • The problem is because Asian Actors aren't allowed in Hollywood unless they are women. And Asian Horror movies include the Asian men that aren't asexual.

But I agree, they should just show the original on theatre

  • Yep I was so sad that Hollywood remade "One Missed Call" and it sucked. "The Ring" wasn't bad though with the remake. I didn't know that about "The Uninvited." The Asian horror genre has some fucked up shit. You should watch "Cello" a Korean horror movie. I hope they never remake "Audition." I think to me it's all about the psychology. You should check out "Premonition" the Japanese version. Very good. I'd prefer seeing the original and come up with your own ideas.

  • Spot on. I know we're talking asian horro but, I would love to see more remakes like the fly(1986) and the blob(1988) horror wise. cooll vid.

  • Dude you are so right hollywood takes all the good asian movies and they turn them into crap

  • can you make a video about the unequality asian men have in media

  • Except we'll just tweak a few parts here so we can piss the original fans off. The more pissed they are, the more we'll make our own crappy half assed versions of great asian movies. IT'S THE PERFECT PLAN"

If they remake another good movie, so help me god <_<

  • Hollywood doesn't have any more good ideas anymore; then again they never HAD any good ideas to begin with. Seeing that asian horror has slowly been rising to population, they're thinking "Hey maybe we should make big bucks out of these guys and make our own version of an epicly awesome movie!"

  • not just the ring ok the uninvited, mirrors, one missed call, pulse, shutter, the eye, dark water all those horrible awful ones are trying to remake asian ones. I dont even watch american movies because they are nothing compared to asian ones

  • america needs to STOP trying to remake asian movies. seriously asian movies are the best!! they're so sad, mysterious, twisted and unique and creative. not just cursing and violent like stupid american horror ones. (I especially love korean ones) but stupid america tries to remake them and ruins them so bad it makes me want to puke! why don't they think of their own ideas instead of taking all the good plots from asian movies and ruining them GOD!!

  • @nenedate The parts that seriously pisses me off is when they don't stick to the original plot. Instead, they make this really (I can't even find the word for it) version, and they add unnecessary parts! For example, the uninvited: Where the fuck was there ever a time the stepmom was shown humping the dad?

  • yeah I know thats one of the reason I hate all american movies pretty much because they have a lot of pointless sex scenes and drugs and cussing just because they want to be cool. all remakes of asian movies are failures and they make me so sad and mad that great asian movies get ruined

  • Well said, they should stop remaking them, instead just putting english subs in them.

  • ringu has always been a pretty lame idea

ohh a scary bitch coming out of a TV?

    wtf?

    that doesnt make sense

anyway I liked the prequel to them the most

and my fav asian horror movies are

    the eye

    and

    inner senses

  • Eminem parody about shitty Hollywood remakes "The Real Psycho Transformers"... in my favorites. Check it out.

  • gore verbinski WAS the difference duh

naomi watts was in the 2nd ring and that movie sucked. if gore veribinski directed all asian horror remakes everyone would have nightmares. (ps if u were to find the top 20 people who were traumatized by the ring the most i would b one of em)

  • love you!

hell yeah you´re so damn right!!!

  • I have to disagree with what you said at 5:03, about how movies need more than scary ghosts and pop-outs to scare today's audiences. I think today's audiences are totally scared by non-stop pop-outs and gore. As long as a film has all that, then today's audiences will love it, like Saw II-V, or The Grudge. I remember kids at school were shittin' bricks after they saw The Grudge and Pulse. Either U.S.'s audiences are unaware of better films, or we're just retarded. Remember Elektra?

  • you made pretty good points

but I think it sort of strikes to a bit of American laziness.

I mean how many people knew that there was a movie "ringu" or that there was a comic about it, prior to it's remake ?

I love Asian horror but it almost impossible to find any at places like hollywood or bluckbuster, I think unless you're a fan of the genre and think deeply about the story's underlying themes. few people have the "patience" to read the captions when they just want to see some blood.

  • sorry youtubes comment boxes just doesnt let me type enough ahha and hmm i didnt like the ring the us version at all i felt it was soo cheesy but i actually liked the grudge idk maybe it was just the people i was with hehe i guess we just have different taste hehe yes dont watch the american version of shutter, it was pretty much a disappointment, i dont even remember who had the best acting in there or any significant acting if at all, i think im done with my rant now sorry it took so long :P

  • oh yeah and i agree i hope it can live up to it, i mean to be honest if they follow the story exactly same lines and everything, it will prob do really good but that will just make the US look like a cop out unfortunately but i bet it would still be good just because i love the tale of two sisters, but i actually like the american version of dark waters better than the asian, then again i saw the american version first, well i liked the last scene of the us version compared to the asian one hehe

  • i do agree that it is just ridiculous how many movies the us remakes asian movies but im a movie lover so im pretty ok with it...but to be honest i do think that some of the US remakes arent too bad in the sense that sometimes they add a little to the story which does make a little more sense than the asian version, if they arent too cheesy and dont change around too much then i think im pretty ok with it but i understand sometimes i think it would be better just to show the original in theaters

  • i totally agree. i already don't like how the characters come off as valley girls. the original had such a heavy atmosphere and the characters were much more serious throughout. this new movie just seems to kill any with their "LIKE OH-EM-GEE, I think there's, like, a ghost" type of lines. plus, the ghost part is played up too much i think. the original seems more likely to happen.

  • I completely agree with where you stand with all of this. I believe that Asian Horror films need not be remade into the American versions.

Though, I saw a prescreening of this "The Uninvited" Movie and it was actually pretty good for a remake. I was surprized.

Of course the took out a lot of important and creepy factors that original has but I felt like they kept the main storyline and actually made this film one worth seeing.

Personally I won't mind spending money to see it again.

  • oh and I forgot.. they need to know the asian culture specially japanese one. about ghost, coz I'm certain they don't fully understand the asian vision when it come to ghost and the likes(specially about having a long hair etc etc), coz when I saw the remake of shutter... they made the ghost looks like monster that keep on touching them.... compare to the original thai shutter ... the ghost never lay a finger on them not even once. it just made them scared to death.

  • Agreed. I mean some people complain about how asian ghost always have long black hair etc. and it's annoying them, but they need to realize that thats the asian vision of a ghost. They need to understand asian cultures so they'll know why the original works and the remakes don't.

  • They must acknowledge the original author and the original title before showing the cast after the movie ends... in that way everyone knows that it was a remake.. this is the only way they can acknowledge the original one and advertise the original title.

  • How will they apriciated it if they don't see the Original?

  • hahaha, you cunt, even though i expected it after you said "loud pop-out" i still expected it!

    SUBSCRIBED =D

  • after you expected it, you still expected it? hu???

  • woops, i meant still got a shock ^_^

  • i so freaking agree!

  • @ryanmovieguy08: I just want to let you know that we are seeing a reversal, now it's asia remaking American film:

-Japan remake Sideways, and Ghost. Japan will also remake An Affair to Remember, and probably Twilight if it happen.

-Hong Kong and China has remade these American film: Hong Kong remade Cellular as Connected, and Zhang Yimou did a remake of one of the Coen Brothers' film, Blood Simple into A Simple Noodle Story. China will also remake What women want.

  • Well judging from The Audition, O-M-G Japanese movies are scary. I would have to kill someone if someone remade that.

  • I'll help you

  • ...was that Patrick's arm behind you?

    Anyway, once again great video.

    :)

  • You are so right on this! Thank you for posting this video! Hollywood's remakes of foreign films is just their way of taking a movie and making it "their own" & then capitalizing off it. Once the remake happens, the world starts to think "it's America's original idea" when in fact it's not the case. I already have boycotted Hollywood's remakes, especially if it's a remake of a foreign film, I refuse to watch it

  • Hell yeah. The Japanese Pulse was so fucking scary. I didn't even bother with the American one.

  • Sorry Ryan, but from the trailer I saw of The Uninvited, it looks like just another movie using cheap scares. The Tale of Two Sisters looks awesomely terrifying however. Awesomely terrifying. Good video though, and it's about time people should learn what they're missing out on!

  • Remakes lately just annoy me in general. A lot of movies are just great the way they are and need to just be left alone. It won't surprise me if in like 10 years, they want to remake Titanic or The Godfather. It seems like writers in other countries are just much better than American ones.

Great vid dude, and yes, Pulse was soooo freaking terrible. Ugh...

  • nice vid ryan

...thats my arm in the background

  • lol you share a room with ryan?

  • Pish posh, that's my side of the room. hellpasokid is just being a hoe and using my desk.

  • FIRST! again...
