id like to see a video of the quick release harness above water, is that possible? currently i have 4 straps to unclick (2 legstraps, 1 bellystrap and a shoulderstrap) i'd like to have something that i can unclick it all with 1 button...
@duuuude87 Just search youtube for Flat Top paramotor quick release harness and you can see just that. I've got lots of videos of just about everything:).
wouldnt it be better to attach 3 bottles of 10l each that are filled with air (airtight) to your paramotor and on you? that way you (because of heavy clothing) and the paramotor won't sink and you can safely swim to the shore too (or float on the water if ur knocked out till someone picks u up... just a thought...
@duuuude87 The quick release works quite well and the paramotor does float. The new ones float even better. Yes any flotation on top of that would add even more boyancy.
Energy sources without the need for fuel or energy input exist ,But Elite controllers don't want ppl to be free from the costs of energy,Get a motor that works with the power of magnets only at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Let the revolution begin!
Oh man, it is sooo freaking cool. FUN STUFF!! Ya gotta try it!! I do carry cheaper models as well but they suck, spend the bucks and get a Flat Top. It is well worth the extra money. Sell your car, your bike or TV, this is the coolest thing ever. Just fly it to work:).
Dell, you are the best dude, always enjoy a pro doing their thisg. P.S. Love my Obsession 2. I'm coming out there soon, we be gonna fly!!!!!!! What the heck was that water landing, well done......was it cold?????????
I have been watching your videos for some time now and have enjoyed them until now. This seemed like a stunt for a 17 year old boy, (which is fine especially since you know what you are doing) but this bothers me as I have been thinking about outfitting my nephews with their own, but they ARE close to 17 and this has made me slow down a bit. You are a grown man doing this, so I can absolutely see them trying this sort of thing and Im not ready to face their mother.
Now after having read your post to the right, I am wondering if this wasn't done on purpose to demonstrate the harness device. I will continue to watch your videos as they are really exhilerating. Can you talk a bit on how safe they are keeping in mind the mindset of young men in their mid 20's
Nobody has EVER been seriously injured or killed flying a Flat Top. Ever. It certianly isn't for a lack of trying, they have been stalled into the ground, spun in, death spiraled in and crashed in about every way. ZERO serious injuries or deaths. Terminal velocity of a stalled paraglider is only about 20 fps. With 16 inches of crumple zone below the pilot it is going to be very difficult to kill yourself. Obviously you can kill yourself doing anything but the Flat Top is pretty dang safe.
Yes this would be an awesome stunt for a 17 year old. I'm certainly getting my kids into it. When they can totally biff it without any injury at all you know you have an awesome passtime that far outweighs the vast majority of others. A wing tip and foot drag has never been done before like this. It is a world's first. To be able to mess that up totally without injury and almost zero risk of injury you should definitely be thinking that is something GREAT for your kids. Forget motorcycles!
Hey man. I've seen lots of good videos from you and I'd like them to keep coming. But don't trust your life to the quick release harness. It'll save you when you need it, but could fail to work and kill you. And if that is not enough, what if you fall unconcious in the water or your legs get tangled in the lines. Take it easy man. For your daughter's sake at least.
I also carry a hook knife that will cut through the harness or lines like butter. Really not very scary when you have the skills and proper equipment. Yes of course you can die doing anything. This is a pretty safe sport as it goes though. Nobody has ever been seriously injured or killed flying a Flat Top.
The one way valve will allow air in as the gas is removed. It pressurizes though when it goes under water so nothing gets out or in. It works really nice.
You must have a great daughter to video you. Great footage and steady. What a great sport!! Is age 52 too late to get into this sport? Is it a young man's game?
Yes she is great and does a really good job with the camera. 52 is no problem at all. Just get the S-Trike you see in my other videos and it is a total piece of cake to fly. Give me a call anytime and I'll fix you up with the cool stuff! 800-707-2525
Don´t worry, I´m from Slovakia, where most of PPG pilots are above 50. There are 2 main reasons for that - young people seems to prefer PG and they don´t have enough money to buy PPG gear. You can try trike if your hip joints and knees are not good enough for foot launch.
In skydiving we where told that in a water landing the best way to get out of your harness is to undo your chest strap and simply swim away. The leg loops would simply slide down your legs as you swam away. Do you think that would work with a paramotor??
Also, just curious as to how your prop held up, and does your gas tank have a check valve on the air intake?
BTW, if you think that water was cold come swimming in a fresh water lake in northern Canada ;)
Slipping out of the harness is pretty difficult on most units which is why so many people have drowned. You can do it on the Flat Top but with the quick release system it takes less than a second and you are out of the harness. Now the risers are still attached to the carabineers though which get in your way. That's what took me several seconds when you see me get away from the unit. I also had a couple lines wrapped up and didn't give the all good until I was completely free.
That is the same prop you see later in the video where the motor is running. The Flat Top uses the highest quality props on the market. Yes the gas tank has a check valve which is why no water at all got into the gas. I flew the motor the next day with my trike. Awesome setup!!! The ice on the lake just barely melted lol, it was cold. I'm sure Canada would be even worse. You gotta try the Flat Top, it is freaking awesome!!!
most pilots just don't fly over water like u do.... thats very dangerous even if u seems to be very experienced pilot, one day or another you'll stay there for sure.
Actually most pilots DO fly over water, they are just not as well prepared as I am. If you have the right equipment then it isn't that big of a deal. Without it though you will indeed die. That quick release harness on the Flat Top is the stuff. Crap does indeed happen. We know people fly over water because 4-5 people just died in the water. It does happen. Be prepared and it drastically minimizes the risk.
lol i love brooklyn in the back ground! "is it cold!?" you survive so many accidents its a miricle. you should be dead! lol! not that i want you to be but you cant have that many lives its not fair.
Yes it is true that God likes me and watches over me but I'm also flying the safest equipment on the market. Pretty slick that the very safety equipment I spent tons of time and money developing just to save lives ended up saving my own. Karma.
It is a confident man who's child video's this - glad yer OK and well done but deceiving as most would perish with this scenario...also you speak with your mouth full and that's a good looking pizza loaded with itilian sausage and bacon, mushrooms oh yeah that's a nice pizza.
Yes I believe there have been 4-5 deaths just in the last year from people going in the water. This time I have a very clear understanding of why. Even getting out in less than a second seems like an eternity. There is no possible way you will get out of the vast majority of paramotors on the market. Just no freaking way. I can hold my breath for 2 minutes+ but in this scenario my bet is you have 15 seconds and you are dead! I hope this is a good wake up call to other manufacturers.
Glad you are ok Dell I never gave the quick release much thought until I had the opportunity to have one. I feel uncomfortable without my quick release now. It is a simple solution to a problem for anyone that even thinks they will be near water and it is so simple to get ready to fly as you never forget your leg stras also. When you are finished flying a quick tug and you are out.
lol yes that is the second time going in the water in a couple of weeks. I push hard that others might live. The constant testing I do really saves lives. Experience like this is invaluable and makes a huge difference in safety for the whole industry. For sure that quick release harness will save your life if you go in the drink. The first time I went in straight & level so it was not big deal but this time I can see clearly if you don't have quick release you are going to die! Flat Top!!!

Looks good, that's just over £4,000 in UK £'s, It's definitely on the 'wish list', (I should think 'shipping charges' would be quite high.)
I won't mess you around, much as I'd love to buy one honest, but it's a bit too much for me.
I've seen them fly over Stonehenge at the Solstice.
I wish you good luck, I'm sure there must be lots of other people would love to own one too. That's about the price of a second-hand car here.
I sure would love to fly.........
