Nice - it brings back a lot of memories when as a kid in NYC I was discovering the pulse of Jazz, African, Latin American music &how they had so much in common. Got to get this album (ie. CD or MP3). Thanx for sharing. Really dug the penny whistle & drum. I'm studying the whistle and play the bodhran (Irish frame drum), largely to play in Irish Traditional sessions, but I look for riffs in samba, taiko & other non-European traditions as well. Came to this site thru Kwela music of So, Africa
Ifelayo is a Yoruba (Nigeria) female name. I've read that ife (pronounced e-fay) is the Yoruba name element for "love" & ayo (ah-yoh) is the Yoruba name element for "joy". So Ifelayo could also mean "love is joy". Ifedayo is a unisex Yoruba name that means Love has turned to joy. Overtime, these names may have been modified to "Effie" among enslaved African Americans. For more information, google my websites Cocojams Names & Nicknames & Cocojams Cocojams Yoruba Names And Their Meanings.
Thank you, pomelorocker for sharing this video!!! The music and the photographs are absolutely stunning! The "One Africa" message at the end of the video was unexpected but made an already outstanding video even more outstanding.
