  • @LauraandMark

I was wondering if yall might know the location or name of the restaurant that Hank ate at when he stopped in Chattanooga before heading north....

i live here but I cant find any information about it. i know the route that he took b/c i made a point to drive it but if you know the place that he ate at, Id sure like to know =)

  • That gas station isn't there anymore ,My great aunt lives there and did at the time of his death . I've spent every summer there since I was six and the way I understood it was that he had left Nashville and was headed for Canton , the driver stopped at that gas station for gas and then discovered Hank .

  • i live here

  • This video brings back memories. I used to live right across from the Skyline Drive-In. They had great barbecues which I still miss to this day. I can also remember lying in bed at night trying to sleep while muscle cars would drag race up Rt 19 starting at Skyline.

  • I've driven pass the oak hill exit so many times and wanted drive through thanks for posting this video

  • i think you got it mixed up just a little he was last seen alive in Spanishburg the driver of his car didnt know he was dead until he got to nashville

  • He was NOT headed to Nashville! He did pass through Spanishburg but was headed north. No book has ever said he was seen alive in Spanishburg, though. It appears the last place he was even remotely possibly living was Bluefield. There is a lot of uncertainty in where he was last seen alive. He was definitely alive in Knoxville, but then it becomes questionable. He was discovered dead near Oak Hill and declared so at the Oak Hill hospital.

  • @LauraAndMark I think he was headed to Canton, Ohio for a gig that he couldn't fly to due to weather.

  • @southernlouie Wrong, he had left from Nashville alive and had even seen a doctor there , he was heading to Canton Ohio . He was discovered dead in Oakhill , were is open for debate , the way I understood it and My great Aunt lived there at the time , was that the driver stopped at that gas station and then found him dead .

  • i live in this town (:

  • Opps, I accidently hit the "thumbs down" button on your comment. I did not intend to do it and now it won't let me un-do it! Sorry.

  • very correct skyline drive was the place he was found dead but all i was meaning was it was right up above my house lol im supposedly related to hank williams and hank jr my last name is also williams lol which doesnt mean anything im just saying what i was told lol good talkin to hank fans though

  • I really enjoyed that!!!!! I want to take a big piece of paper and a crayola to that placq and frame it for my wall!!!!!

  • wish i grew up in the South I love history.I love the history up here as well.

  • i live in hilltop/oak hill...the Skyline has REOPENED!..not the same pizza!! lol but the woman who made the pizza then now works at Jessie's bar in Oak Hill making coal miners pizza...well last i heard she did.

  • I live in Summersville.. I always wanted to know why there was a bridge named after him.

  • i live right by this place maybe 5 min away lol but nobody knows where hank really died he was found dead in oakhill but that dont mean thats where he died nobody really knows if skyline drive really was where they pulled off either just here say but he is gone and forever missed i am a williams also.

  • It seems the last place he was definitely seen alive was in Knoxville. It's even uncertain if he was alive when he left the hotel there. It seems like the last place he was slightly possibly alive was Bluefield, but we'll never know. I believe the police report named the Skyline Drive-In as the place he was discovered dead. I'd assume the officer talked to the people working there. The one driver has constantly caused confusion while seemingly forgetting there was a second driver even!

  • @jrocks420 omg im a willaims TOO lololol

  • @UNSUB420 Lol ok

  • @jrocks420 lol not really I just say that bc there are 1000's of williams. :P

  • Thanks for all of the nice comments. I originally just took the footage for myself but then decided to share it since others might be interested.

The hospital did have a different name back then. The funeral home was located in the building shown. It has since moved. The service station has been demolished recently. The Skyline Drive-In is also very close to the other sites, but the road has changed a little so you can't quite drive straight up the road as you could in the old days.

  • hank died at the stop light at the library

  • Hank Williams did not die in Oak Hill, but it is where he was pronounced dead. Experts say he was probably already dead when he left Knoxville or shortly thereafter.

  • i used to live right by Skyline Diner. Oak hill and hilltop both are famous for Hank Sr.

    It really is very interesting

  • My husband and I had pizza here on our first date. Delicious! I didn't know about Hank at the time...amazing. Born in Oak Hill Hospital, too.

  • This is an interesting piece of video. As an avid Hank fan, I really appreciate you taking the time to post this and share it with us. Interesting to see the surroundings and learn a bit of the facts and history surrounding Hank's death. Thanks again for sharing!

  • ole skyline they had good pizza

  • Really, really cool video. I often wondered what everything looked like. I'd like to take the entire road trip myself. Well done!

  • Just wanted to Thank U Laura & Mark for putting this together. Funny how the driver was guided to stop where everything required was conveniently just another step away. I think he was on a guided path. Thank you for showing us the clean simmplicity of this place.

  • They tore down that oil station

  • I like the video, personally. I hate to see so many people give you crap. I'm one of Hank's biggest fans and followers. He's as much a part of my life as anybody is. He might have passed away, but I'm one of the many who believe the man will never die. Bless you for taking the time to make this video, simple as though it is. But that's what it's al about- simplicity.

  • For one thing Medical center is a fairly recent name for hospitals (they might have chaned the name I know alot have done that) That was Tyree's funeral home at the time of HW's death. Tyree's funeral home was moved to another location some years ago. And the building was turned into a pharmacy (from what Ive been told) read up on it kind of interesting that something that big happened in Oak hill.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video. I've read about these historic places surrounding Hank's death but never saw them, even though I live in Huntington, West Virginia. The effort you made in recording and uploading this remarkable video is appreciated greatly by me and many other fans of the great Hank Williams.

  • you should visit Oak hill is such a nice town

  • accually he did, yeah he was discovered dead there he was the one driving his own car when he pulled over his car and got into the backseat and died. My family lives there and my aunt was a nurse at the hospital at the time when he was brought in. They note that the oil station was knocked down on their website

  • my mistake I apologize, He was being driven by another person but the doctor who examined him at the hospital, Sorry about the error.

  • Does your grandmother have any inside stories concerning Hank's death or the mysterious doctor who pronounced him dead?
