Kettlebell are known for being full body. So, this splits the load thru many supporting muscles. Pavel teaches to use these in all exercises to be stronger. Because of this, you're able to do so much more than using traditional methods.
Make no mistake, this dude is a freakin tank. In combat, you need to generate a lot of strength. As Pavel put it "Don't judge a book by it's cover. Don't judge a man by the size of his biceps. Things are often not what they appear to be."
Well, are you saying it's impossible? You saying men in their middle ages are not supposed to be in shape? Sure, they may not be as in good shape as a 20 year old.
Look up the guy Tony Horton, creator of P90X. He's 47 and can do over 20 pull-ups. Think before you speak.
haha i havent said any of that. feel free to quote me if u find reference.
i think it's perfectly possible to be fit throughout your whole life. spartans are said to have waged war into their seventies. i just deny that there is no connection between the physique and physical capabilities. bigger muscles are very likely to be stronger/more enduring.
and i bet the pavel who can do 20 oap has a larger biceps than the pavel who can only do 1 or 2. maybe he's able to do 40 i have no idea.
you make some interesting points ctn4l but do you really believe doing more reps on a given load will increase size of his bicep?
I have worked with with gymnasts and bodybuilders in the past and have found little link between size and strength. it's all about strength to weight ratio, in short, lighter more athletic instead of just disfunctional size!
well, not of any given load. since a one armed pull up however is quite a considerable load i'm pretty confident more reps will give u more mass.
it's like the amount of resistance determines the value of each rep.. disfunctional is a funny term regarding that the body doesn't adapt for no reason. i suppose the gymnasts u work with have more relative strength then the bodybuilders who in turn can take a higher training volume.. at least if u train volume not hit. dunno i'm not into bbing.
back to the reps.. the average person's leg at least from my observations is at least twice as thick as the average person's arm. u could say it's all genetics but check astronauts or people in wheel chairs... their muscles atrophy just because they lack frequent use.
sometimes i get the feeling size is way more about strength endurance than about strength.
just my two cents. but hey you're the personal trainer u tell me bout your experiences.
Not really....... because the type of movement and the multiple muscle recruitment the pull up demands you tend to get less hypertrophy. In my experience. check out rock climbers. but thats not to say you wont get any mass it just tends to be more fibres muscle and less water retention.
Rep value can be a very broad spectrum but generally the value of a rep is determined by the load, range of movement, intensity and muscle recruitment. For example I would consider a pull up to have a higher value than a lat pull down due to the muscle activation to stabalize the body quite simply... it's harder.
rock climbers.. well u won't see many of them do 30+ wide grip pull ups either since the record is 40 or so?
i think pavel's physique is easily attainable with regular push ups and chin ups. he's not big at all. u could say he's cut. but i think many prison inmates gain more muscle from just doing bwe. to me pavel looks like a regular slim man. but i suppose he's fit but i can't judge. i've never seen him run or do 100 push ups or whatever.
I would't say it's easily attainable it takes alot of work to achieve and takes more than just pressups and chins to get that kind of physique. there is a big misconception that because you're smaller and "cut" you don't work as hard. Like i stated with rep value, pavels exercises have more rep value than any body building exercises. Like me I guess his aim isn't to build muscle, it's to improve performance.
i watched some of your videos and i think you pretty much focus on techniques and variation of exercise. your profile states u're a personal trailer.. assuming that is true u must be thinkin i shouldn't be trying to teach you but i recommand you check out your limits. like doing push ups till you grunt and your eyes rush with blood. same with pull ups. both till failure 10 sets each. u look way too relaxed in your videos imo.
Thanks for checking out my vids. I am a PT and have been for several years. The way I train is mainly bodyweight with some power lifting movements as I don't want to build mass, If I get mass as a bye product of the training thats fine but it's not my goal. The vids I have posted are to show technique, progression and give people some ideas, they are not vids of me training hence the relaxed look. I will post some more of me during an actual session.
like the guys in parkours that jumpa around and drop 2 stories just to keep sprinting. real strenght has little to do with overdeveloped antagonistic muscles. I learned this from watching david belle
Where can you get his books, Ive been putting off getting the bodyweight and the stretching ones cause theyre expensive but hell if you can help me out itd be much appreciated.

I think Pavel is great, and to think he use to trained Spetnaz, Russian Special Forces. I have his beyond stretching and like alot of his training methods. It is based on the science methodology of exercising. I love it.
The book i great - I've read it more than 10 times and always pick up something new that makes me stronger and makes my workouts more fun. Video looks cool.
Well I got the book in the mail a week ago from Amazon, amazing! I can do one slightly wobbly but legitimate one-arm pushup with each hand and a few pistols on each leg. I love the book. It's really improved my overall strength especially with the breathing techniques, not to forget that my core looks and feels even better from getting so much stronger :D

it appears to me size has it's place though.
you will see pavel do a one armed pull up but you won't see him doing 20 consecutively.
believe me his biceps would look different if he was able to.
repetitions which mean true fitness to me seem to be underestimated these days. it's all about how much u can pull or push.
