Dean is an amazing individual. He is a true master and perfectly nailed what would happen with digital. What I don't think he could have anticipated was the incredible scale, especially that has come about the last 2 years.
I took one of Dean's Lightform Classes back in the late 80's in Chicago. I had the opportunity to share a dinner with he and his staff. The man knew Light. He was passionate about it. That 3 day seminar listening to Dean Collins gave me an understanding of light and how to use it photographically. I was sorry to hear of Dean's death. I'm sure heaven has a different look since he arrived!
He was right about digital but wrong about stock photography. People pay single digits for stock photos now. 20 years a go one stock image could make you $2000 a year.
Dean was a photography and lighting genius. I'm thankful to be able to view this videos and try, key word try, to soak in all his knowledge.
He was "The Man"! I saw Dean a few times and always walked away pumped up about photography and smarter than before. He was a great guy and will be missed.
I worked for Dean in the mid-90's. He was a genius. It's amazing how relevant is teachings still are decades later. I wish he was still around.

I like to say that "foresight is 20/20". Mr. Collins wasn't smart -- other people were blinkered. He was simply applying very basic common sense.

He says nothing that isn't obvious.

The luxury of hindsight. For 1998 this was good business advice. Many photographers hadn't got their act together with websites in 1998.

Dean was the Master of the Masters.
Sometimes you had to see Dean several times to fully understand what he was talking about. A true genius.
