I have this entire race on tape. Was the first one I started with, taping each year. This was the last year it was presented in tape delay. Oops, I guess that was mentioned.
Thanks for sharing this! My parents are Hoosiers and I grew up watching this race every year so many great names mentioned here. My parents were at the 1969 race when Mario Andretti won. I was blessed enough to be able to sit on the starting line at the 1998 race.
I agree CrazyRacer48. Indy is truly a moving experience. I tell people all the time even if you aren't into racing you should experience Indy live atleast once in your life. This year will be the 9th time I've gone to Indy and like you say I get goosebumps everytime.
back when this race TRULY meant something. Before that little whiny pissant Tony George destroyed open wheel racing in the US... honest to God, if I ever ran across him face to face I'd bitch slap him right in the mouth.
Jim McKay is no match for Paul Page, that's for sure. It seems like he's a little obsessed with the driver's ages, seeing that he mentions it every time a driver is on the screen.
Love those 85" March Cosworth race cars, beautiful machines much better looking than that monster the IZOD series is gonna start racing in 2012...

It would've been very interesting if those Buick v6 engines were more reliable but man they were fast

Nope; 1986 was the first LIVE Indy 500.

why can't they have simple, straight-forward intro's like this nowadays for the indycar races (well, we may need to update that music a little, heh)?
gnomebtc 4 years ago
Hey, this music is awesome!

That Sneva wreck was pretty damn awesome in '83.
DoucheBagalow 5 years ago
That crash was in '75. He won the 500 in 1983.

We should also point out that this was the last Indy 500 to be tape-delayed; the following year, ABC would finally broadcast the race live.

You seriously kick-ass with this video my friend (IceBudweiser). That's an excellent intro, looking forward to the the eight-parter...

there will be a total of 8 parts.
i also have the whole 1992 indy 500.
IcedBudweiser 5 years ago
You may want to give uploading the 2nd part of the race another whack. If not, try the other parts of the race.

And brilliant including the intro...music sounds very cheesy. Until the Delta Force theme came along a few years later.
GoJohjimaJihad 5 years ago
I like the Delta Force music, too, though this music is pretty nice. Catchy.
OWfan 5 years ago
I wish I could download the Delta Force music. That was the best music for a theme to the Indy 500. Bring it back!

Someone uploaded the whole soundtrack on Youtube (Indy-500 pics included). You'll be able to listen to it.

I found the song available for download from somewhere, thanks though.
