crazy. loved the arcs. those tv's are going into the bin eh? i'd always jump if a tv sparked like that. any way you can take these tv's and take their cord and wire it to a mot for massive circuit board destruction? would that be feasible? oh and ive subbed you too :)
Why KOH instead of NaOH in the condenser cleaner? Wouldn't the Na+ ions behave the same as K+ ions since they're both in the same periodic column, but be cheaper to use?
I have to admit that I feel sorry for that Healing TV, but then again if it uses an NEC chassis it wasn`t a total loss. NEC wasn`t exactly the best among the Japanese made TVs according to the old TV repair guys.
It's weird, I can watch you torture AC stuff all day, but (and I know they are screwed so it isn't exactly a waste) watching this just doesn't feel right. Probably just me.
Hitting it ALWAYS works!!! it does here in the uk!!! if in doubt as John Cleese said in faulty towers (as he went off camera and got a bit stick to his car that broke down) "Right i'm going to give you a dam good trashing".....................i guess you guys in Oz have seen the 1970s hotel sit-com Faulty Towers? if not dig about on here (you tube) there is some stuff on here!!! Anyway Keep it up well done!!!
did you do chemistry at school or something? you seem to have a periodic table imprinted on your brain lol always telling us the chemical make up and products of reactions lol.
maybe if i pay enough attention in chemistry ill end up like that lol
Damn, I like CRT TV's more than this LCD/plasma shit, do any companies out there still make CRT based TV sets? I like that strange clicking noise the Healing TV made when you sprayed the condenser cleaner at it, that's awesome. As for the Panasonic, I think my primary school had something similar to that one, perhaps a bit larger than that.
@Lachlant1984 I think Samsung or one of the other Korean makes still manufactures CRT style TVs but not for the western market. In Canada there are still cheap China TV sets being sold in Walmart, usually piled up on pallets in the center of the isle.
@Lachlant1984 I totally agree! CRTs are the best esp. for playing classic games on. I got a Sony Trinitron from the early 90s off eBay for cheap, the picture is awesome...way better contrast then LCD. Oh and it was mad cheap too ;)
Cool video! Random question: why is it that the older crt screens appear sort of lighter in color than the newer crt monitors? Like the glass looks whiter or something. Has anyone else ever noticed that about old tvs?
Old TV's and monitors had whitish phosphors on the backside of the glass, although the glass is tinted to elevate contrast. Newer CRT's had phosphors of a much darker color for even more contrast. Also, older CRT's had a fine aluminium layer on top inside of the phosphors against ion bombardment, they used something else on the newer ones that appears matt black, but i haven't looked it up yet. Hitachi even used this last already in the old CRT's too.
@EngineManic Same reaction as a fluorescent tube/HID/anything else that uses a vacuum. Though, you wanna be careful with CRTs because of the immensely high vacuum, especially if an implosion band is not present.
usually the older TV sets had pretty good low wattage speakers in them like the one in the beginning of this video.

LCD/Plasma good?? HAHAHAHA. you should see the hords of them i get in the shop daily.
I rather stick with CRT. much more reliable and SERVICEABLE. no board swapping allowed.

@Lachlant1984 If anyone makes CRT tv's it would be China, and they would be nasty cheap.
LCD and Plasma TV's are really good, a little tricky to fix when you have been schooled on CRT TV's, but still good
