  • I grew up with this guy... SO glad my mom never found records obselete. <3

  • Hail to thee, @llamageek2 , for that war thing. Lots and lots of hail too!

  • yes, yes it does

  • I am fat. so... does this aply to me as well?

  • i love the old comedy and music... awesome.

  • can someone PLEASE post "That Old Back Scratcher"

  • How about "Grow Mrs. Goldfarb" , "Turn Back the Clock"' or "Pop Hates the Beatles" some of the funniest songs I ever heard!!! somebody post them PLEASE!!!

  • This is totally unrelated, but why isn't Allan's "Twelve Gifts Of Christmas" on YouTube? That has to be one of the funniest Christmas sketches ever.

  • @paperdain

Sorry, just found it. Disregard this post

  • Great silliness never dies. I'm glad YouTube exists so bits like this can carry on to entertain future generations.

  • Alan Sherman was great and had too short a life. That albumn My Son the Folk Singer is excellent !

  • My history teacher played this when we studied the Marshall Plan. Great stuff.

  • apparently his wish to not have a generation of short fat kids with glasses was not granted

  • Another under-rated artist..Brilliant!

  • It is because of this man's inspiration that I became a short, fat child with glasses.

And I have continued the fight to be fat throughout my life. No sacrifice is too great for the cause.

  • LOL Yea this was a funny bit! Allan did not take care of himself though, like so many Americans then and now. Over eating, chain-smoking, drinking too much alcohol and depression killed him before his time.

  • Thanks Robin!!!! That was awesome!!!!!

  • The sad thing is, that by today's standards in America, he's not that fat. But it was obviously too much for him anyway. So sad - such a loss. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • "Hail to thee, Fat Person!"

    About damn time!

  • Song made me cry the first time I heard it. AWESOME

  • someone posted Allan Sherman was not subtle. Listen to his parody of Americas move to suburbia called Heres to the Crabgrass. It is based on and English Diddy, named Country Garden. That alone is clever enough.

If that does not get you, THe Streets of MIami which rips every western ever made will. The man remains totally brilliant.

  • Quality is poor, but thank you so much for a great bit of comic history.

  • Is it really true that he used to be a judge, and he would sing his verdicts with a guitar?

  • I found: My Son, the Folk Singer record at a thrift store today... and yes i bought it.

  • a great find

  • @nicetryjason Wish I still had my copy--given to me by my folks as a Christmas present when I was ten.

  • @nicetryjason Wow! I had that album! Glad you snagged a copy.

  • "America The Beautiful" set to Wonderful Poerty! The perfect end to Side One of "My,Son,The Nut!" Michael Boyce

  • "I don't want a whole generation of children that are short and fat and wear glasses"

Well, he got 2/3 of his wish... I don't know too many people that are short and wear glasses...

  • HAIL TO THEE FAT PERSONS

  • Thank you. :-)

  • I love this bit! So hilarious! R.I.P Mr.Sherman.

  • very funny, but hes really not that fat

  • Sadly, this used to be considered fat. Overweight is overweight. Serious morbid obesity is now considered "a little fat" in America. So yes, he is fat. But by today's American obese standards, no, he's 'Not that Fat'--he's not morbidly obese.

  • He was fat...fat as in cool.

  • He was overweight and he became more so over the years. He also drank heavily. He developed diabetes and emphysema and died just a few days before his 49th birthday. He was such a wonderfully funny and clever man. Its a shame that he died so young. We could sure use his parodies today!

  • could you imagine the parodies he could do today

  • hey i once saw a music video for "good advice"

done in claymation!!! has anyone else seen that???

  • Where'd you see that? I want to!

  • YES!!! It was on HBO or Showtime. In the late 80's or early 90's

  • ya, i was looking for it here.. if anyone has it.. upload it!

  • I adored Allen Sherman-I treasure my copy of his autobiography (thanks Tommy!) and loved his work.

  • Meshugina!

  • CLA-SIC! I first heard this on tape when I was young, ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! Here's to you Al!

  • tops

  • fantastic.

  • first time ive heard him and its okay

  • Thank you, God, for giving us Alan Sherman. He was here only a short time but he left behind some great laughs. We could sure use Alan Sherman today!

  • well we have him!

    Weird Al!

  • No, in my opinion Alan Sherman's humor has a sophistication and subtlety that others lack. Just my opinion.

  • You're right, Al is in absolutely NO way subtle. But hey, he makes me giggle.
