  • why did johnny say to craig he was disquisting ?

  • Dear Mike , Andy & Craig, without you there would never have been The Smiths.

  • Craig Gannon could have been the one and only Smiths member to become a full time model.

  • @Paneeks1960 Andy Rourke could have been the full time model!!

  • in a way, i'm glad they broke up, because I'd hate to have seen a slow downfall, because they had prime music, and only prime music.

look at people like U2, who keep going, and have such un-known new songs.

would be a shame to see that now.

  • The animated Morrissey pisses me off, but the animated Joyce makes me laugh.

  • how can Stephen Stret possibly be that young! how old was he when producing The Smiths, about 15??

  • I'm naming my band after Andy Rourke.

  • Mike Joyce is as fresh as a lettuce because HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHIN but to play the drums THE SMITHS WERE ONLY MORRISSEY AND JOHNNY MARR

  • @mozzperu No, rourk if he wrote the Bass lines, he's alowed a bit more, but i agree, even i could ahve been in Mike Joyces shoes... and i consider myself a guitar player, i only drum for fun...

  • @mozzperu What helped make the Smith's sound was the drumming and bass style combined with Marr and Morrissey to create something special. None of the members of the group have been close to making similar magic after the break up of the group.

  • Again, provide a quote or a citation to back up your opinion (as I've already done), or just stop trolling, troll.

  • Stop embarrassing yourself on the internet, troll, and either provide some evidence to back up your strange opinion, or stop trolling.

  • A quote is when words are lifted directly from a source and presented elsewhere, in quotation marks. A citation is a reference to a source. You've yet to give either of these to back up your claim that Marr wrote the bass lines for Andy. Why is that? Could it be because you're simply making things up?

I've already given you a quote from Marr himself, where he states that Andy was rightly proud of a certain bass line. Why would Andy be rightly proud of it if he didn't create it himself?

  • Citation on Marr having a drug problem whilst in The Smiths, and resorting to drugs in the studio to 'create all the sections for the band', please. (I know about the coke sessions and the alcohol on tour, by the way, so don't bother mentioning that.)

And I know Rourke was a heroin addict, and that when it really started affecting his performance (ala Liverpool Royal Court, 1986) he was kicked out. All this has got nothing to with how Andy created the bass lines.

  • And yes, living in an ex-council house with a barely above minimum wage job, I'm just so middle class. Keep trying though, spanky. Maybe if you flail around here long enough, you might actually make a valid point.

The fact you have to resort to the ad hominem just highlights how, so far, you have had nothing of substance or value to add.

  • Didn't say I'd read or seen every interview, said I'd seen *just about* every one there is to see. There is a difference.

The quote is a direct quote from Marr, and makes it quite obvious that Marr didn't write the bass lines for Andy. Again, if you have any actual evidence that disproves this, let's have a citation from you. If you don't have any, then stop spewing your bile. It's pretty simple.

  • And that should read, 'any comments about Marr's guitar arrangements'.

  • Right. So, never mind that Marr's own words make it pretty clear that Andy came up with the bass lines, and never mind that you have failed to cite anything to back up your ranting. You'll just continue to rant on.

I've watched just about every interview with Morrissey and Marr there is to watch, and I haven't made any comments any Marr's guitar arrangements. I've backed up my words with an actual quote from Marr. If you can't back up your silly opinion with anything, then kindly shut up.

  • cont.:

Why would Andy be proud of the bass line, as Marr says, if he didn't write it himself? And why would Johnny describe the other bass lines he mentions as 'Andy's other stuff' if Andy hadn't come up with them himself?

Also, I don't read the NME, I don't wear skinny jeans, and well, obviously, I read books. I just cited one that contains a Marr quote that seems to dispute the aggressive garbage you keep spewing. Let's see a citation to show that Marr wrote the bass lines, you blowhard.

  • Let's have a citation on how Marr created the bass lines, then, please. Allow me to quote something.

''I know a lot of fuss has been made and Andy is, quite rightly, proud of that bass line,' says Marr, 'but, personally, harmonically I don't think it comes anywhere near Andy's other stuff. 'Nowhere Fast', 'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore', 'The Headmaster Ritual', all tower above it.'' Simon Goddard, The Smiths: Songs That Saved Your Life, p.150.

  • Actually, I think you're overstating things. There's no indication that Johnny created the bass lines, if that's what you're trying to get at.

While Andy and Mike may not have had the extent of studio involvement and interest that Johnny did, let's not pretend that Andy didn't make a fantastic contribution to the music via his bass lines, and the music wouldn't have been what it was had he not been a member.

  • how does mike joyce justify getting an equal share of royalties to songs he never wrote?????what was wrong with the judges head??

  • It was an equal share of The Performing Rights not Royalties...which Moz and Johnny should have agreed to really....greed always causes problems doesn't it !

  • actually, i've read "Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance". but I know, the need to lash out at everyone who isn't mindlessly drooling over Morrissey and/or Marr is so common among Morrissey/Marr fan boys. I've been a Smiths fan for most of my life, and sorry... but I think Joyce and Rourke deserve 25%.

  • I've never heard that before, but if it's true then you've got a point... but, I don't really believe you. Proof please?

  • have you heard the bassline in "Barbarism Begins At Home?" obviously not. Rourke deserves 25%.

  • yeah!!! Its absolutly amazing. The song is very long but it never gets boaring because the bass lign is so funky! Especially when it stops and starts again sort of. The singing is rather boaring and droany which sort of gets in the way of the up beat of Andys bass...

  • Craig Gannon is COOL

  • Is that guy gonna drink any of that red wine? That bald guy is a twat.

  • That 'bald guy' who a couple of posters here are slagging off actually wrote a pretty good book on The Smiths. Part biography, part assessment and exposition of the songs, it's definitely recommended for any Smiths-obsessive.

  • Mmm...So Joyce, if ur ever reading this...Did you instigate Lawyers to snatch Morrissey's mum & sister's houses??? Lowest of the low...

  • that bald bloke is a twat

  • damn..that gannon guy is hot as hell!

  • @elsoda Forget Gannon, Morrissey was fucking gorgeous

  • STRANGEWAYS HERE WE COME has to be the REAL Smiths masterpiece. It's a true classic. These posts are brilliant, asherel. Top notch.

  • Me can hardly credit me Welsh eyes - another fine upload. Diolch yn fawr.

  • shame what happened to andy rourke

  • I can understand only about 45% of what Andy Rourke says... OPEN YOUR DAMM MOUTH TO SPEAK!

    =/

  • you are the best
