I am playing this right now so far it's been AMAZING. Loving loving loving it!!! I was hesitant but it's amazing. Although, Riven will always, by default, be my favorite :)
Love playing this one. The dream bit kinda made me laugh, but I loved everything else... I didn't like how the brothers died though... I always loved Sirrus...
I'll always be a big fan of Myst and Riven. played it for hours when it first came out...lol on my old commodore 64! Can't wait to play the latest one on my new computer!
@tobler88 yeah i havent finished haven yet but in the rocket ship do you go to the chair first because i tried thos two things i got it down but it wont start up
@Theroguesunit6 Haven is the age from myst 4; the prison age. Do you mean the Selenitic age? Are you at the part where you have to sit in the machine and travel down the tracks to get back to the myst island? All you do is sit down and travel in the direction that the noise makes everytime the ship stops. A different noise corrosponds to a different direction (North, East, South, West) that takes you back to the myst linking book, if you don't hear a noise you've gone the wrong way.
@Theroguesunit6 ah see I thought you were talking about the origional myst game. I don't remember there being a rocket ship in myst 4. Perhaps you should look for a walkthrough if you can't figure it out, although that will spoil the satisfaction of completing it yourself.
@Theroguesunit6 From what I recall you have to go to one of the control panels with the four crystals on it, light up two of them. Go to another control panel with 7 crystals on it, light up 5 to get the thing to float and so you can get into it then hit the switch to ride it across. That's all I can remember to be honest.
this game was awesome and made myst v look amateurish which is ironic because that game was from the developers themselves. pre-rendered graphics will always look the best!
this game was awesome and made myst v look amateurish which is ironic because that game was from the developers themselves. predendered graphics will always look the best!
Since the psn is down, i had cleaned out a room and found this game which i never played. Is this game worth playing and if so how much is an expected playthrough average? I don't have a lot of time but i have enough
I just thought Cathrine was a Peter Gabriel fan or something.....heh.
I love MYST - The puzzles make sense. I love how you walk into a new world and learn the new rules of that world. Spire is one of my fav worlds ever; The frequency rocks fascinated me - that something could be so fantastically imaginative yet scientific at the same time. So extensive - it's awesome! xD I LOVE the machines Atrus and his sons make. >w<
OMG, I *HATED* this game. I kept getting stuck in loops because I would finish puzzles out of order. Then the dialogue kept coming out of order because it was cued by finishing a puzzle. So the whole story started happening out of order... it just got worse and worse until I finally got stuck in a loop with conversations happening backwards and NOTHING made sense anymore. I gave up. I liked Myst better when it didn't matter what order you did the puzzles in, or you had to do one to find the next
Myst 4 had a great story, pitting the player against Sirrus and Achenar again was genius. But what was even better were the themes, I remember completing Haven and asking my self "So, what was the point of that age?", before it hit me that the goal wasn't to obtain some trivial item, but to learn about the characters, which was a style of interweaving gameplay with character development in a way I've never seen. However, the visual style was vastly inferior to its predecessors...
@noitcurtsnocnacnuD I agree. Haven was amazing in that it was completely optional to beat the game (technically), but it was a fantastic look into Achenar's life, his development as a person, and his ultimate motives. Can't really ask for anything more.
Funny. When they first announced this game I was so upset and thought it would be awful. I cannot express how wrong I was, and how awesome I think this game is.
Ironic since many avid Myst fans don't like it because of Dream being "unrealistic".
Myst games always alluded to a spiritual/moral subtext (Uru way more so) in relation to it's more plausible scientific/cultural musings. Dream is just a direct display of spirituality. I thought it made for a revolutionary inclusion in a video game.
@JulyForToday Yeah I didn't like it whatsoever, it didn't fit in with myst. It didn't have any of the mystery or dark themes of Riven in it. However the spire age was incredible, its look, puzzles, story - from nothing he managed to create a sophisticated living and ultimately break out.
I loved this game, though Riven and the original Myst probably take precedence. Exile was great too, but not quite as good as this one.
And yes... they went in the wrong direction for the fifth game, unfortunately. They should have kept to the original style, I think. It was also significantly easier.
riven was probably the best, but the hardest game, this comes second on my list. I've finished all the 4 games and planing on getting Myst V end of ages soon :D
Not the only thing only to be in trailer, and not occuring in the actual game. Can't remember seeing the brothers fighting each other (0:47), nor being attacked by a camoudile (1:05), when I played this fantastic game either...
Acccctually you can see the brothers fighting if you use the amulet on an object in that area. And I'm pretty sure the camoudile part is when it's actually jumping over you to chase the mangree (right after you get blown into the middle of the jungle).
Ah yes, you are right about the camoudile attack..it's been too long since I finished Revelation...Where exactly did you activate the amulet to see the fight...I am guessing it would be in the endgame in Serenia?
Myst 3: Exile & Myst 4: Revelation are my best games ever ever ever I tried to search games look like Myst, and I didn't find any, except "Safecracker"
But of course Myst is better
Try to search "Safecracker" in (gamespot)
Its puzzles are very difficult too, and its tending to technology era more than old era
Anna (Ti'ana) is dead by this time. I don't remember when it is she dies, but it's definitely before Myst IV. You don't seen Anna in any of the games, just the first two novels.
The first one is about Atrus as a boy, raised by his grandmother Anna. The second is about Anna as a young woman discovering the D'ni city and the Fall of D'ni. The third takes place between Riven and Exile and follows Atrus and Catherine as they discover a "sister" age to D'ni.
You can still find these three published in one book, the "Myst Reader" at most large bookstores.
Also a group of independent filmmakers has made a script and is currently looking for a producer/studio to develop a movie based off of The Book of Ti'Ana.
And the book you are talking about is The Book of Myriam I think, the character that was introduced in the Book of D'ni, Supposed to take place on the world they set up for the refugee D'ni. A Teaser of it was included in Myst V, been in the works for years. Really hope they finish it, the Myst books really are awesome standalone books even if they didn't have the games to back them up they still have a great story to them.
And I enjoyed them, especially since they gave more backstory to the characters, explained their motivations. Ghen's especially. Ti'ana was probably the best book.
I'm pretty sure it's not. Apparently this was the last one to not navigate in real time 3D / have prerecorded 3D movement but otherwise stills... from that I'd presume there were 'next ones' :)
you need to have finished Spire. Theres a puzzle right after the one where you have to make all four stones vibrate that shows you the correct color combination
This brings back memories. When Sirrus blew up the bridge in the beginging I was like "MARY! YOU BLEW UP THE BRIDGE! I TOLD YOU NOT TO TURN THE WATER WEEL ON YET!!" - course, I was wrong. Ingenius story line though....Revalation was my favorite one. Two really hard puzzles were the spider chair on spire, and the karnak calls on haven. I had to buy the game guide for the Haven one. *shame*
Revelation is indeed one of the most visually impressive games I've ever played. The gameplay, though, just didn't compare to what the first three had. It all went downhill with Revelation and pretty much died appropriately with End of Ages.
Myst IV is so hard! Pity Myst 5 didny look so good as the original producers switched to realtime 3D which imho sucks compared to Revelation's prerendered technology.
Great. I love hard puzzles. I played the first three parts of MYST without any hints. That took some patience though. ;-) I'm currently starting part IV. I also got URU Complete Chronicles, even though its probably quite different in style. However I did like realMYST, so if it is like that I'll probably enjoy it anyway.
Are you joking? Realtime 3D allows a lot more freedom than prerendered scenes, and if you have peripherals for stereoscopic 3D (like shutterglasses, a polarized light monitor or a 3D visor) you can even play Myst 5 in real 3D, where spaces have actual depth and objects have actual volume! It's a lot more immersive than prerendered animations!
Dude. I am stuck on MYST 3 Exile. I just got the game ( first time ever playing a MYST game ). And I cant figure out this one puzzle. I'm only on the first part.
Yeah it seemed a bit unorthodox at first. However, it was the only way for graphics like those to be achieved since computers at the time weren't capable of rendering such detail in real time.
There could be so many movies. I hope that they make it a long thing, you know? Get them all worked together somehow! Like Achenars world from Revelation could be like the place where Atrus loses one of the kids in The Book of D'ni! :D
The Myst series was truly ahead of its time.

Ingenius story line though....Revalation was my favorite one. Two really hard puzzles were the spider chair on spire, and the karnak calls on haven. I had to buy the game guide for the Haven one. *shame*

my version of the game had a help guide build in the options menu.. I didn't really use it actually.. ^^
by the way.. i saw a explosion in the ship in haven in this vid but that didn't occur in the game right? :S
or is my memory failing me??

Not Karnak. mangree calls! Sorry I had to fix that.
And no idea. The explosion we probably saw through Yeesha's amulet.

myst is just one of those games that pisses you off so much but once you figure out the puzzles makes you feel good

Definitly one of my favorite games!

I've also got Uru but never took the time to finish it, I was way too frustrated by the lack of their so-called online play :(

I'm only on the first part.

the first time i played myst it sounded cool, but the gameplay was all pictures, really weird kinda style.

Yeah it seemed a bit unorthodox at first. However, it was the only way for graphics like those to be achieved since computers at the time weren't capable of rendering such detail in real time.

That's also what makes Myst4 so unique and awfobviously A FREAKIN' MASTERPIECE o_O

@JetJockey87 You might already know, but the first Myst game has actually been remade in full 3D. it's definitely a cool experience.

the book of atrus? yeah i love that one 2.

So do I. I hope the movie(if there is one) is off the books and not the games, even though the games are some of my favorites.
MizumeDemon 5 years ago
There could be so many movies. I hope that they make it a long thing, you know? Get them all worked together somehow! Like Achenars world from Revelation could be like the place where Atrus loses one of the kids in The Book of D'ni! :D

I thought the movies were going to based off the books...

Peer Jackson should direct! The story is so damn good, just as good as Lord of the Rings! It needs a great director to be a great movie!
