those trucks are badass. a buddy of mine just got one but his is all red cause after the millitary used it, a local fire department bought it and used it. but its a great truck
I just bought one of these for $500 bucks wanders all over the road does anyone have any ideas what could cause it to pull left then suddenly pull right? i HAVE ALREADY replaced the steering box and doing the same thing thought maybe could be leaf springs but if it is that i will just put a lift on it any suggestions would be appreciated.
@fj60driver Same thing happened to my K10. Tie rod bushings, ball joints, and the roll bar. Could be any of them. Most likely the rod bushings and ball joints though.
@jgwentworth1500 Yes. It is a 12/24V electrical system and has one alt that runs at 12v and one that runs at 24v. The 2nd one is in place of an a/c compressor.
@motormayhemthevideos The armory outside my town has 5 of these beasts they drive them through my town on their way to do their combat exercises or when they are transporting equipment to another armory. I have wanted one since i was 12 but i had never seen under the hood of one before
@mccrackenphillip the military does not "fix the speed" on these trucks. They do have 4.56 gears tho, so 70 will be pushing it unless you put some larger tires on (around 35-36 inch should put you around normal speeds)
@mccrackenphillip The truck ones have 4.56 gears and none of the cucv's have overdrive so 70 is running that motor extreemly fast and it wont last long. 70 is fine for the blazer with 3.08's but 55 is what the trucks cruise at.
Most of these are out of service now. However, just watching the video should get you that answer. It has both Army, and National Guard markings on it, but it was built for all the armed forces. The HMMWV (Humvee) has taken over since the mid to late 90s. These are getting more and more rare, but you may still see some on stateside military bases.
why is it every cucv i see has 30 something thousand on it. my 85 blazer had 36000 on it when i got it, and just picked up a 85 k30 too with 37xxx on it. unfortunately it was owned by a fire dept so its painted red
any idea what that plug is for that is on the passenger side behind the grill. mine has that too.
It's a military jump start plug. It's a quick connect to jump start dead military vehicles. (So in other words, don't lick your finger, and stick it in the hole. lol)
N/A Diesels are wicked sounding with open exhaust. I've run a 6.2 with 2.0" duals (no crossovers) and it sounds like two high compression V-Twin motorcycles chained together. That thing was louder than a Pontiac smallblock 400 that I also ran open!
You should take an inside and outside accleration video!
It makes a little difference, yes. I have bigger plans for this truck than just trying to get another 5 HP from this sluggish 6.2 diesel with the trunking. I'm thinkin a 12 Valve Cummins will do the trick...
I would like one premo shape.Anybody got one for sale?Need it shipped into Ontario Canada

What is the top speed on one of these?
oakley175 1 year ago
@oakley175 slow, they are geared with 4.88 locked rear and ~32 in tires so they can tow a lot but not very fast compared to modern standards

How rough is the cold start on these things? I heard the 6.2 is a nightmare but the low price is really appealing.

Same here...What kind of maintenance do these things require? Im looking for a beater work truck that'll just get up and go without a problem.
Is power an issue with these engines?

Mine has true dual, no crossovers, 3 inch straight pipes, manifolds back. I think the side exit helps with the noise level a lot.
YJrebel94 2 years ago
Dont the crossovers help with widening the powerband?
I noticed u have no trunking to the airbox; often this is useful to get cold air in if u route it to ...er...cold air!
