i found an entire buffalo head with no blood at all in it or around it in the middle of a forest, and there isnt even baffalo anywere in that area. lol, there was buffalo fur in the trees, i mean it was high in the trees, me and my friends found it while playing paintball. Anyways i was thinking of going and getting it next halloween for my costume, i wanted to wear it on my head with a huge trench coat. Of course i would wash the shit out of it and wear a cloth mask.
Interesting encounter during paintball - thanks for the story! On a related note, I once read a book called "Skulls and Bones" - A guide to the skeletal structures and behavior of North American mammals by Glenn Searfoss. He strongly recommends what you described about washing out the skull. Searfoss says that bones, even when appearing dried-out and clean, still carry a lot of pathogens...
Turns out you're right about the coyotes. Unfortunately, though, it turns out the skulls were from a neighbor's yard, further down the street, where they had left them out in their own yard to "cure" for future display...
