I was there....June 6th 1993. I was 30 feet from the stage. Awesome and unforgettable! Joe Elliot walked on stage and asked everyone..."Do ya wanna get rawwwked??" I had a 4ft 10" rock chick with huge boobs tap me on the shoulder for a height advantage. I couldnt bloody get her off my shoulders after!
But Angus Young plays a radically different style of guitar as well, more of a bluesy style. Phil plays more of a metal style. Two totally different things. Also, they are both great guitarists in their own right.
For some reason, this being performed in the worst decade ever (90's), just makes me want to just go watch the '88 in the round version of this instead.
I was lucky enough to be there. The weather was so hot. Thunder, Ugly kid Joe and Terrorvision were truly amazing acts to play before Def Leppard too.
yeah he wrote the verse riff....phil wrote the pre chorus....the rest was probably a big collaboration with the chorus and lyrics etc....great songwriting....
from the way they are recognized by many, here in the UK, its hard to understand why more people like Bon Jovi....Def Leppard rock yet many brits see them as a pussy ballad band yet they go wild for Jovi who are very similiar....Def Leppard for me have more depth in their albums and thats why i'l take them any day of the week over Jovi
Was online on facebook just before when my best mate put Bon-Jovi in the same status as Leppard... I youtubed him Wasted live from Tokyo '99... He enjoyed very much!!! Case closed!! Many people asume Leppard with Rocket and Pour some crap on me!!! I hate that shit!! Fuck Mutt... Love these guys so much!!!!
Rocket is a great song man....what are you talking about?! Mutt is a genius but I will say that Def Leppard lost their hard rock edge once they really got into close relations with each other.
Im from the states but have to say can't stand Bon Jokie but have always loved Def Leppard. I think they have way more of and edge and their songs have waaay more depth as you said. In fact everything up to Adrenalize was fucking amazing, so layered and thought out with incredible melodies, even on the hard stuff. But I'm partial to British bands anyway, even though Im in the States
this is good - but i do believe that the live version of this song in 1988 is utterly magical - i guess to do with the dynamics of the band at the time and also the round stage.
I know exactly what you mean. I think it's cos this was steve's fave song to play live, and it had always been his dream to play the don valley. Sad stuff, he'll never be replaced, but my god, Viv does an ace job :)
i agree he does a great job but when it come to gettin that sweet sound only steve could do it but still its great today i already have tickets to see them again i love that band the best
@kd5lpr Steves favorite song, if I recall, was Love and Affection. The last track on the hysteria record. Theres a live version of this somewhere on youtube with him playing it...
so can i i wish i woulve been alive to see him in 88 but im only 13 but seein them for da second time this summer lol but i hope to see steve clark rockin to this song in heaven one day
@kd5lpr Yeah, this song does make them look lost without "Steamin" Steve Clark, but Phil has got a lot better since '93 at matching Steve's tone. Phil and Viv did good on the solo though : )
The song almost sounds sad without the old guitarist there if you compare to the 88 show ... it`s almost like the band is being forced to play especially the vocals
I wonder if it's not a combination of Joe's age and the fact that even the best voice takes a beating on the road, plus 10-15 years later. Also, this song was arguably one of the heavier "studio produced" songs? It had a LOT going on with it in terms of many layers of vocals and everything else - makes me wonder if they've stripped it down more and more each tour?
I was there at this gig aged 19....a tiny 5ft chunky rocker bird made up of 60% body 40% tits tapped me on the back during this song asking if she could get atop my 6'3" frame. After nearly breaking my back getting her up in such a tight confined space only 30 ft from the front, I tried looking up and asking if she was ok which was a waste of time as it was bloody loud and all i could see were her heaving tits! Those were the days!
She was quite a cool looking chick I must admit. I had trouble getting her down...she was having none of it. After Hysteria and the next song she got down. She got back on for about 3 more songs later including Armageddon it. My neck felt like i'd been in a car crash the next day due to her weight movement from waving arms and....bouncing tits of course! How could I ever forget???
LMAO!!! Of course we can't forget the flinging tits!....oops I meant bouncing.
Heck if that's all it took to get up on your shoulders..........I would've flashed you. Maybe that would've gotten me to 10 feet from the front. Huh? Hahaha!
Ok....that sounds like my kinda thing. We'll have to arrange a meet up at the next Def Lepp gig. I wont have trouble with the lifting up this time round....I promise ya!
LOL! Oh, boy! What have I gotten meself into? Well if you're offering .......sure! I'm not should what will mezmerize me more, wathching a shirtless Viv or sittin' atop o' you?....On your shoulders! Hehehehe!
He's dead, since you were in diapers. Steve was awesome no doubt, but Viv is just as good. And he is not the new guy, he's technically been in the band longer than Steve ever was.
uh then listen to the 88 tour then listen to this one and believe me there is a difference steve was the back bone and yes they are great today i agree im gonna be seein them this august and i dont care if the new guy has been with them longer than steve was he will never get that sound
the new guy Viv been with Def since the ealy 90's he's not the new guy anymore he a great musician a great guitar player and he must have a great personality or he would have never got the gig,First time I had a chance to see them was back in 93 front row with Viv in the band it was great never took the time go see them when Steve was alive wish I did though.Viv got great sound!
I think we all miss Steve and I'm sure the band does to I remember where I was and what I was doeing when I herd he died lets all remember him he left behind great music and I think Viv does a great job He and Phil complement each others parts wonderfully

I think Viv is wonderful and all, but it makes me sad not to see Steve there. Anyway, just wanted to comment. Rock on!

Great vid, but I must say Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell are 2 of the ugliest men alive in this video. They both look better now, and Phil in 1988 looked cooler (I'm not gay =x).
