I've been working in a pharmacy for a while, so now I just say "good morning, good afternoon," or "good evening." When customers are leaving, I say to everyone "have a great day" or "have a great evening." It sounds professional and doesn't get confusing, I think. I have to keep looking at my watch though to switch from "good morning" to "good afternoon."
"Attached to your receipt is going to be an invitation to take our customer satisfaction survey. If you go online or over the phone and let us know how we did you'll be entered to win a thousand dollars or an ipod touch."
HOW THE FUCK DO ALL MY CUSTOMERS HEAR 20,000?!
Do you know how ridiculously annoying that is? I've pretty much given up on even telling them they might win something. Most of them don't believe me anyway. I don't believe me.
that happened to me a lot when i worked in a supermarket. it really bugged me! i ended up resorting to "now then" and "ta-ra!" but i think that's only acceptable with a yorkshire accent...
motherfungelers ! in norway we have the problem with yes please and no please... ja takk nei takk.. if u say them fast enough u cant hear the difference - well especially after working 9h shifts -.-
I typed a really long comment but then realised it made no sense at all so this is a slightly more understandable comment in which I show my appreciation for this video.
Also, when on the topic of greetings, the oddest situation I had is there was a time the McDonalds drive-though near me has an automated pre-recorded message come on once you drove up to the speaker. It asked a question like if I wanted to choose some new product. I didn't know if I should respond, because it was a machine asking me, so I just waited until an actual person spoke. So weird, lol.
As a customer in America I don't get told "hi" or "bye". But are we talking about like a waiter or a store clerk? Store clerks in America always, almost like a robot, say some greeting that contains "May I help you?", and end with "Thank you" or "Thank you, have a nice day". Notice, there was no "Hi"s and "Bye"s there. I only been to England once a few years ago, but already forgot how it is done over there.
i'd be down for some gay sex with you :D

I proudly gave you a thumbs up!!! When I'm at work I usually say "have a good day" or "have a nice day" or something like that.

I find this works well. "What'd ya want?" for greeting people and "Leave this place!" for the end of the conversation. Might just be me though.

what about highya and toodeloo. That might be a bit too camp. you could, as your 9 hour shift progresses use different words to relieve the monotony.

@WeeGrahamsaccount You speak words of wisdom, and NOTHING is too camp for me......
Not gay though, just thought I'd remind everyone.
