Boy I don't remember his name, we traded I gave him a Reel to Reel tape of the Intentions that Jack had recorded and gave to me, i'm guessing it was a show they did and he gave me the demo record for it, as I said it was at least 20+ years ago.
@dleet101 The song "Honest I do" although sounds like it was done in a garage was done at Virtue studios around the same time as "Don't forget". "Honest I do" was included on my CD, "Capitol City Soul" along with the Soulville Allstars, Delcords, Shan-dells, Soul Clinic, Georgie Wilson amd more. Here is the e-bay item number .....400181954720.
@web45 Dam I just checked your CD and 45s for sale, I thought I had a pretty good 45 collection but nothing like that, I saw Georgie Wilson on there how come you didn't put Roman Heart on your CD ? By the way the CD has alot of great songs on it.
@dleet101 Thanks for your comments! The CD was geared towards the "Northern Soul" crowd, but "Roamin' heart" will be considered for the 2nd volume. I have maybe 15 or 16 tunes and would like to have at least 6 or 7 more to complete volume two!
Although they didn't look like musicians and were always "second-fiddle" to the Magnificent Men at the Raven Nightclub in Harrisburg, PA, the Intentions sounded great. They probably all went on to become accountants or actuaries, but they had their two years of fame in the 1960's.
@billduncan411 Second fiddle eh? One was a Sales manager at a car dealer, one was/is an entrepaneur in L.A. and one is a janitorial business owner, others?
How did you ever get your hands on the Virtue label, hand-written "dub" copy of this record that appears @ 1:27 on the vid? I have an aluminum acetate "dub" of my old group, Custer's Last Band on the same Virtue label, of our 1970 release, "I Couldn't Last A Day". I have it posted here on YT. You should check it out. I hear it's hot on the Northern Soul scene in the U.K. Love The Intentions tune! Thanx 4 posting.
@DaddyClb Tom, you should know better than that, don't you know it was me (Dennis) that supplied the scan of the Virtue label. I also have it on a test pressing with Jesse James singing it (he wrote it).
Blue Eyed Soul from Middletown, Pa. This group later became the Humble Gathering with some of the same artist from the Intentions they did a killer Christmas Song called All I Have To Give You is My Love
I had the pleasure of talking to Weldon McDougal III of Harthon Studios when he was at the Rock Hall recently and mentioned how much I enjoyed this song...he told me they also cut Philly singer Herb Johnson on this song as well, but I'm not sure if it was ever released.
I am a southerner, but i am putting northern soul on my m.p.3 player,so cool, love soul, this song is the perfecto mondo, brill thanks for posting it,in my in my playlists.
Thanks for letting me know, I dont do ebay, but would be prepared to send dollars in the post for the cd (20 dollars ok?) If thats okay please forward your address, where can i details of other tracks on the cd.
@Claretsdoowop I don't like putting my details on here. If you went to e-bay and sent me a message from the listing, I will send the details how to send payment. thanks.
I never really called this music "Nothern soul" until some scooter guys I met here in DC in the 80's told me about it. Kinda similar to southern US "beach music," only a little better (to me). THANKS for posting this gem...
In addition, I am updating the status of the group. The first death of an Intention took place December 16th of 2008. My brother Ron (baritone) passed and unfortunately he was followed shortly by Jack Valatti )2nd tenor/lead) about 2 months ago.
Hello Mark, thank you very much for your sincere sympathies! You are a long time friend and someone who helped me grow along the way on the internet, I owe you a large debt of gratitude! I hope for great success and hapiness in the coming years!!!
I was told 10 years ago that the master was destroyed in a fire, as many were. I fell sure there was never a stereo cut. I am the only one with the test pressing of Jesse James singing the song on an acetate for us to learn from!
hi web45 just like to say that 'she needs somebody' is one of my favorite tracks ever, i heard it on breadmakers channel which is worth checking out, i am sure he would like to here from you! Thanks for some great music Alan(cob1965)
Easy mistake to make, there actually was another Intentions group from Reading PA (on UP Tight records) 50 miles to our north, whom we never crossed paths with? I think most people would agree with you regarding "Class" on the 45, what else could you expect when Jesse James wrote it and Harthon produced it as Frank Virtue managed the mixing board @ Virtue Studios!
The Intentions on Philips, recorded at Virtue Studios, Broad Street in Phila. Played throughout Central pa. colleges in Pa, local dances etc. Originating from Harrisburg, Pa. On any Saturday night in Harrisburg area (mid-60's) you could see the Emperors, Del-cords, Intentions, Legends, Magnificent Men, El Dantes, and many other live soul bands, with a good selection of blue-eyed groups! 1964 to late '68!
Ah! So many years ago. I had seen the band perform--This was in Lancaster, PA--I believe the place was called 'Hullabaloo'?... Great 'blue-eyed' soul. I had bought the record immediately. And 'lost' it, of course. Again, Great hearing the recording again!!! Thanks for the posting
Hey, this is Dennis Brennan, 1st tenor for the Intentions. I've just shared this with my friends, family, and Brian Humble-lead of the Intentions and Henry Urick our organ player and manager. We've all got a kick out of hearing this (our only) released tune (on Philips) on you tube! I'm in the back row, left, with my brother in the rear center, who was also the baritone on the rare "Exciting Invictas" recording on Kingston.
Really enjoyed your comments. Great song. Great memories. Where was the band based out of? Where was song recorded at? Saw you guys once. Saw the Hum. Gath. a few times.
Hi, thanks for the comment, struggling for time a bit, my daughter helped me put this on from my record collection in the loft, but there's another 2000 up there, some crackers. Not played them for years, started to get interested again after family etc so watch this space, you never know what I might find.
That brings back a lot of memories. We wrote that as members of the band were getting drafted and heading off to Vietnam. Amazingly, we all made it back in one piece and continued the music. Just a little heavier the next time around as the Humble Gathering.
Boy I don't remember his name, we traded I gave him a Reel to Reel tape of the Intentions that Jack had recorded and gave to me, i'm guessing it was a show they did and he gave me the demo record for it, as I said it was at least 20+ years ago.

Sounds more like Chicago southside soul to me.
"Northern Soul" is the term that comes from the UK.
Motown is Detroit. The Philly sound is Philadelphia, etc...
