  • Looks like the real deal, from my memory! Building the foundry is going to be fun, I mean fun watching, you build it:)

  • I love all your videos, but this little (ha!) project has me more intrigued than most as it covers a number of issues of interest to me, namely cad design, CNC, and casting - I can't wait for the next instalment.

BTW, whilst your techniques are far superior I can't help but compare it to the African Queen when Allnut makes a new propeller blade out of scrap iron and bolts it to the stump of the old blade after breaking it going down the Ulanga River... great adventure!

  • @Norbury53 just great--now i gotta go looking all over to find a copy of that just to watch that scene...! been years since i saw that- should be good though--im really into steam power--if i could-id dabble in steam for my project...steam would provide a great way to blow ballast and propulsion but- its too hard to sort out the problems of submerging with a fire in the hull...

  • @porpoisefathom It's definitely worth the search I think.

I wonder if you could compromise and build a steam engine, etc, but run it on compressed air when under water... and real steam when on the surface! ;-)

  • @NBTVer agreed!... interesting idea- I believe you would need some very large compressed air tanks..and a huge on-board compressor. achievable but with limited run time + big space requirements A fire tube boiler will keep around 30-40 minutes of steam after the fire has gone out. allowing submerged running...and the advantage of a solid fuel such as wood is apparent in the weight as ballast. problem: how to seal the large exhaust pipes upon submersion (under pressure..)

  • @Norbury53 Thanks, and I love that movie.
