Hey Greg, love the collection. You really have some great stuff in there. Glad to see another jazz fan keeping the music alive. If I could make just one suggestion for you to listen to, it would have to be Brian Bromberg. All of his albums are great but the standout in my opinion would be "It's About Time: The Acoustic Project". It's a collab between him and a bunch of great artists including one of my fav trumpet players Freddie Hubbard. Anyway, his stuff is great and thought you should know
Greggers!! That was sooooo weird, I was thinking of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass....THE VERY SECOND BEFORE YOU SHOWED IT!!! I had ALL of their VINYLS when I was between the ages of 3 - 10.....I ADORE them and I quite frankly wouldn't be the singer I am today without music like that!!! Man, the memories!!!
That was so awesome!!!!
I love all your cd collection vids, I have a lot of what you do!!
Surprised no Medeski, Marin & Wood, and also some Galactic ... great funk / jazz bands... Also a new broken up funk band from Lafayette, LA: The Asparagus Allstars is great! I should send you my CDs of these... along with the Beck disc I promised you!
As soon as you mentioned Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass I immediately had "Mexican Shuffle" stuck in my head. Oddly enough, we played an arrangement for that in my Steel Drum group, and not Jazz. Still fun though
all the jazz players gotta play in denton, tx at some point. \\m// not an extremely eclectic taste in music, but good music none the less. but then again i love all music. nice glasses btw very appropriate for this video LMAO \\m//
This was a really boring video. I know you told me not to watch (I don't really care what music you like), but it showed up in my Subscriptions....and I MUST watch everything in my subscriptions. Don't ask me why. I don't really know...
Cool i never expected someone like you to like jazz! a few suggestions
Garage a trois (fantastic jam jazz fussion group)
Herbie Hancock?
Rahsaan Roland Kirk
Any Dub? or any thing contemporary ... My favorite Post contemporary...ha silly name...seriously its a genre... The Weather Duo are a cool group that are in that genre
You need more Classical...its a necessity for any musical understanding
I love vince guaraldi, not just cuz peanuts brings a great feeling of nostalgia, but it's all just awesome. Thank you for introducing me to Errol Garner too! I'm always looking for Jazz penises as well, i mean pianists. :P
You may find it interesting that I have a lot of original recordings of the classics on 78rpm records. I specifically enjoy the swing era. I have a lot including four King Cold Trio, sixteen Bing Crosby including one with a duet with Al Jolson, a couple Mel Tormé, three Duke Ellington and one Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and Fats Waller.
The sound of a clean 78 brings a whole new element to the music.
Anyway, thanks again for sharing. You gave me a list of a some stuff to check out!
I also have that Jimmy Cliff record on LP. And yes, he's epic Reggae and Ska. It's one of those few records w/ songs my Caribbean wife loved growing up. Along with Marley's stuff.
I've been waiting for ever for this video. Thanks!!!
First off, you don't have any Leadbelly!? That's like having a collection of rock and not having the Beatles! You should be able to pick up an album pretty cheap on amazon.
Also didn't hear any Al Jolson in there. Also if you like Jazz Fusion, you've got to pick up stuff like Chase (my favorite), Maynard Ferguson and Weather Report.
I can't believe you don't have Miles Davis' Birth of Cool album. Lot of great Davis Bebop.
If you love Count Basic, you've got to get the album "First Time" Duke Ellington and Count Basie playing together! It's one of my favorite albums of all time!
Oh, and if you like the old pop kind of stuff, check out Jo Stafford. And did you mention Frankie Laine?
Also good call on Herb Alpert, even thought I'm not sure I'll consider him jazz. I have almost all his albums on LP, including Whipped Cream & Other Delights. That one was hanging on my wall for a long time.
I found one of the songs being sung here on Youtube by someone with youtube name olivierflap so you can get a taste of what the lp is like. Here's a bit of trivia the song is being sung by Mr. Walt Kelly himself.
If you like Vince Guaraldi (Peanuts' "Linus and Lucy") can I suggest "Songs Of The Pogo" by Walt Kelly ( creator of the 50's comic strip Pogo).Kind of rare but I saw Ebay had a few lp's for sale but aren't cheap.
If I may I'd like to recommend B.B. King and Sony Boy Wilson for blues, also mabey King Crimson, they started out as jazz fusion/prog rock but now do jazz suites and experimental rock (Adrian Belew's with them!) also if you want something really bizarre try Swing Holic, they do video game Swing Jazz arrangements :S.
I'm sad that this is your last CD video, and I think it's so funny and cool you have a "weird" section of music, but Greg, WHAT'S WITH THE GLASSES?!? Sorry for yelling, I got overexcited.
I dont think iv ever seen u seriously wear glasses like for your own personal use hmm. I love charlie brown. cute jeans an cute glasses. you have alot of CD'S alot Iv never herd of I dont think Iv really seriously lisend to blues or jazz dont know why hmmm
i have a stranger taste in music, i like anything from "that one blues artist no ones ever heard of" to BEP and Gorillaz to The Beatles, I LOVE THE BEATLES!
I love Blues but I dont know why I hate Jazz, theys are kindda similar thou... most of people (that kind of people that only listens pop music) even confuses one for the other but I cant stand Jazz
hey greg! have you ever heard of Bjork? Her music/video's are realy out there. my favorite of her's is wonderlust. If you have never heard of her, i would reccemend looking her up. I don't know what it is about her, maybe how out there she is, i'm not for sure, but you might like her.
No John Coltrane, Stevie Ray Vaughan or Hendrix? (the album Jimi Blues)
Also you need to get some Milt Jackson, Avishai Cohen, more Keith Jarrett (The Melody at Night, With You) and if you like some electronic Jazz check out Free The Robots.
@gregaaron89 SRV & Jimi are in my rock collection. Coltrane is a little too... um... challenging for me. I used to have some Coltrane but traded it in.
c'mon buddy...respectable blues collections need the Howlin' Wolf, Albert King, BB was mentioned by someone else already. No Stevie Ray Vaughn? He also did a great album with Albert King. Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf backed by Butterfield Blues Band and Cream, respectively on Muddy Meets the Wolf (I think that's what it's called). 1st and 2nd Butterfield albums--must have. im not even into jazz and i watched this just because your videos make me smile :) also the fact about the guild was interesting i love that series ^^
Do I get Bobby McFerrin's album for watching the entire video? Haha this is the first time I watched the entire video about your CD collection without skipping any parts; I love jazz and blues!
P.S. I want the Bobby McFerrin's album so badly but I can't find it anywhere in Singapore!!!! :( *winks at Greg*
I have "Songs for Swingin' Lovers" in my car. What a great way to drive from SF to LA twice a month. Ferranta and Teicher is actually pretty good stuff. They're pretty influential on a lot of musicians nowadays.
John Lee Hooker is what the blues is.
$300,000.00 worth of CDs. You could have bought a house!
Thanks for these, Greg. You may claim they are boring videos, but I love looking up artists you enjoy that I haven't heard of! You have good taste, sir. Thank you for enriching our lives with your videos. Happy holidays!
Holy shit! He has awesome taste in music as well!

Great collection - Chet Atkins to Jean Michel Jarre to Django Reinhardt!! Brilliant! You have such broad taste, it's unreal

@meb659 Hahahaaa, no way I've spent nearly that much. I've bought 'em all cheap/used over the years -- since 1986!

Not incredibly into jazz, but it's still good stuff. Also, Kids in the Hall are awesome.
