  • I hope I am somehow related. I would be proud to have a wonderful, talented, Christian lineage out there doing positive thing for our country. God bless you all. My only regret is that I only found out about her after her death. I would have loved to have experienced her bleesing first hand. I'm sure that her children, neices and nephews are blessed with the same loving heart that I have read that she possessed.

  • My favorite song by Aunt Doe. It's eerie how much she looks like my mother. Had some GREAT family reunions when her and her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews would sing all weekend. Great great memories.

  • blessed to have had her as my great aunt. but you should have heard her brothers and sisters sing. GOD given talent that blessed our homes for many years. It's so eerie seeing these videos cause my mother looks more like her than her own mother which was Aunt Does sister.

  • WOW I sang this song at a funeral once. I don't know if we are related but if we are I am sooo proud. Doris Akers really sang that song.

  • @dscottakers We might be. Some family members say here fathers name was John Kelley, an Irishmen. Thats were she and the rest of the family get there look from. We used to affectionately say to everyone in the family: Light, bright and damn near white :)

  • @dscottakers sorry i mistyped....Her great grandfather was John Kelley. Her sisters Bernice (my grandma) Marion, and Nell all moved to Cedar Rapids Iowa. If we are related then this should help.

  • Doris was so soulful and genuine, I don't believe I have ever heard nor do I know of another caucasion lady who has the sound and sincerity as she had. I can't get enough of this lady's spirit and SOUL singing because it is SOUL real!

  • @JandJComedyBrigade Perhaps it is her mixed roots....

  • An ABSOLUTE Treasure!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!! So blessed to see the Greats sing even today thank you karma342

  • Amen.

  • She was not only a beautiful woman, her voice is beyond compare!

  • @bjsc67 u should have heard her brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews sing. Was blessed at reunions to hear my family sing.

  • The type of voice that moves my soul.

  • Wow! Doris looks so beautiful!! Great post!!

  • She sung this so gracefully. Her special touch that only Sis. Doris Akers could give.

  • Aunt Doris looks alot like her sisters, and my mother

  • man that was a beatiful song
