Rush is one of my all-time favorite bands. i can garauntee they aren't heavy metal. they aren't even metal. they're closer in style to Queen. more program music, with definite stories being told than anything else. that doesn't make them any less awesome, though. Tom Sawyer is a kickass song.

Yeah, I remember watching it in 07, that was when YouTube was actually worth logging on to. I remember you could just get onto YouTube and see great videos like these on the front page, now its just teenagers with too much spare time talking into webcams and inserting misleading frames to make it look interesting (Case in point, Shane Daweson). Rush doesn't glorify debauchery like most heavy metal bands, all three musicians are more or less sober and prudish. Geddy Lee sounds like his testicals were removed, their lyrics would give Tolkien a boner and their typical fan still lives with his parents and beats off to japanese anime. Not metal.

On the other hand, Neal Peart is the greatest drummer of all time, period. Liferson can melt faces with his guitar, and Lee, well, he's competant. metal.

The fact that they add some classical elements, and have more technical prowess than most metal bands, and therefore tend to get grouped under "prog rock" doesn't lessen their metallicism in any way.
