  • Steve Albini may have been thin, but he will probably outlive many of the overweight people in America.

  • Damn, I've seen a dozen live Big Black concert vids but, I've never seen them with a REAL drummer...

  • read the book our band could be your life...

  • GAAAH unreal! Big Black playing with a live drummer?! Kudos to you Petey, no easy task man

  • ドラムがいる!

  • It's funny how Steve looks so nerdy and is still a badass.

  • how they are twisting, guitar strap on the hip

    albini so skinny

  • I don't care how skinny he is, Steve Albini is HOT. He's got charisma and there's something about how he plays guitar.

  • When I see Steve's hunch in this video, I have an urge to crunch his back! I've seen spoons with better posture! *clicks fingers*

  • I like the live drummer.

  • Steve Albini is a fat ass in this video. Why don't you lose some weight, fatty?

  • @YouGotWoodRolled LOLOLOL!

  • @YouGotWoodRolled What up Ryan, didn't expect to see you here

  • @SantiBernhardt

    This is my hangout.

  • Weirdest guitar strap ever.

  • @jwatson626 Yes! I thought for a minute it was some sort of fetish girdle! I bet it's insanely comfortable compared to a normal strap though.

  • @raindog951 HAHAHA!!!! It does look like he's working on some Guinness record for world's smallest waist or something. I think he just forgot his guitar strap and found some electrical tape and old inner tubes and made do . . .

  • @jwatson626 Yes, it certainly looks like electrical tape. Just proves he's a genius :-)

  • there's kerosene around!

  • Prescott's a sloppy drummer and always has been. I like his sound for organic, grungy sounding bands like Mission of Burma and Volcano Suns, but if Big Black had to have a live drummer, I'd prefer someone precise and machine-like, such as Bill Reiflin or Ted Parsons. Still I like this video just for the genre-bending value. Must have been a real mind-fuck for the lucky audience.

  • This season, Fedoras are the in look. Any more from this show?

  • every punk band needs a holocaust survivor for a front man.

  • @JohnSmithAprilMay i suppose you are proposing that steve albini be of jewish ancestry?

  • awsome. they are fuckin burnin. luv it!!!!!!

  • lolz! 1st thumbs down!!!!!!!!!

  • wait, a Big Black show where Peter Prescott played drums? WHY DID NO-ONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS.

  • lol, steve's so fat ;)

  • One of the fills is off, but that is a good drummer.

I prefer a drummer unless there's a problem with floating tempo and rushing. Just like a comic with bad timing it ruins performances.

  • Q: this is what interests you: extreme situations and music. is there anything else?

A: no. nothing else at all.

  • @leolodreamland you got that album too....

  • @seelow12 classic 8>)

  • steve is a moron with his views for the most part, but Big Black were incredible!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @WilliamDeCntng is far from a moron. he's actually extremely intelligent, but being a cancer, he is a moody, blunt and harsh fucker. a martyr. i think its awesome but i can see how many wouldn't like him... he's one of the only musicians that took the music industry and fucked it in the ass instead of the other way around.. they couldn't touch him. no one ever told him what to do and how to do it.. how many other musicians can honestly say that? yeah... you're very wrong about him.

  • BIG BLACK BURMA

  • Good. I hate drum machines, only reason it's pretty cool for big black is because they did it on purpose to make that silly, 80's sound.

Holy shit look at Steve back then

And damn, sounds even more abrasive and noisy live.

  • Albini is such a nerd.

  • Damn this sounds bad. Sorry , I just don't get it.

  • @chillichomper It's only rock music. Don't be afraid.

  • @chillichomper It's not wanky linear, like Halfords music. Judging by your faves etc, you like very formulaic, easily comprehensible, conventionally structured music. So yeah, one would think a person with that mindset wouldn't get it or that it "sounds bad".

  • I find them all terribly sexy with those hats on. Santiago especially.

  • Incredible seeing Big Black with a human drummer! Even more incredible seeing Peter Prescott being that drummer!!! The best footage I've seen on YouTube for many months!

  • ust great - wish I'd seem them - cheers

  • Ha one dislike ? the drums are cool .

  • Holy shit, Steve is skinny.

  • steve's lookin' a bit like freddy krueger

  • steve albini looks terribly skinny in this video

  • Comment removed

  • @jacobladders gosh yes. A bit manorexic.

  • bring me your worm welcome **mworld5.info**

  • I thought they used an Emu drumulator. What's all this roland talk? They used tr-606 for the 1st album only, right?

  • Comment removed

  • Heavy traffic kept me from seeing this all the way through. I consider that the luckiest thing that's happened today.

  • Leave it to CBGB's to suck the life outta this song

  • Why do anorexic people look cooler playing angry music? Albini and Justin Broadrick of Godflesh, and Kurt Cobain near the very end. It makes everything seem more desperate.

  • @Polyfusia It's also cool if a "heavier" dude is playing angry music. Like Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins. Dunno why, though...

  • I was gonna say..what is up with the live drums! I see they took his crashes away. Good job. Keep it simple beat heads! :D Not the best group, but interesting band. Albini was very talented at what he does now.

  • Will Shatter at 2:32 ???

  • Roland WTF ???

    OD ????

  • @DryHanson Roland - is the name of the company that made the Drum Machine they used live and on records.

  • Hmmm...live drummer didn't do them any favors.

  • lol look how young Albini is!

  • How was he so skinny?

  • Can't I download the viedeo here anymore?

  • SOOO cool, I was at this show!!

  • Why's everyone dissing Prescott? Dude was in fucking Mission of Burma and Volcano Suns for fuck's sake!

  • @HamburgerMartyr cos the internet is full of fat, autistic geek scum. none of em were born when this video was shot.

  • @HamburgerMartyr Prescott's a great drummer, and I reckon it must've sounded miles better in the room than it does on film, but the ugly industrial thud of the drum machine is missing. It's part of what makes the Big Black sound the Big Black sound.

  • Music for confused mental patients. I love it.

  • hate to say it but more punch with Roland...still great

  • I like the second Roland drum machine better it was actually an E-Mu Drumulator.

  • The reason why the band's drum machine was replaced with Peter Prescott was because Dave Riley(bass player) drunkenly smashed Roland, Albini wanted to strangle him that night.

  • Godano get a fucking life mate! Who cares in the scheme of things!!!

  • Is this taken from "Top of the Pops"? hehe

  • For some reason Peter Prescotts drumming just makes it so much more funky.

  • I like Roland better!

  • coffee beans

  • sampled them for my rap song on my page called Kerosene!.......

  • Set me on fire.

  • Definitely a rarity, and it still sounds pretty damn good, considering. Good drummers are like that, too bad there aren't many around, probably a main reason BB used Roland. Thanks for sharing!!

  • Which pedal does albini use in this song?

  • harmonic percolator.

  • wow...Robert Prescott too! i can´t fucking believe it....

    this is great

    BIG BLACK ARE KINGS

  • the reason for peter being there is because dave smashed roland while drunk before the show. prescott really didn't know the songs (watch durango giving subtle hints of trying to feel the beat) so the show wasn't really up to par. regardless, fantastic viewing!

  • @fouroclocker2

I'm the person who shot this footage, and no, you are incorrect. They used the drum machine for the entire show until it malfunctioned, at which point they came back out and played this song with Prescott. I have the entire rest of the show on my original video I shot.

  • @GreenGerg

Looks like I stand corrected! In Azerrad's book, he mentions that there was a show were Riley did smash Roland. Looks like it could've been a different night, or (and maybe more likely), Azerrad got some facts wrong. Still a pleasure to watch!

  • never seen this before!!!

    fucking great

  • sounds rad with drums

  • were can i find the lyrics to this song??

  • i was born in this town

    lived here my whole life

probably come to die in this town

    lived here my whole life

    theres kerosene around

    find something to do

    theres kerosene around

    find something to do

    theres kerosene around

    set me on fire.

  • no other band comes close, saw them in 1987 in London. probably the most intense gig i ever went to. genius doesn't begin to describe this band.....

  • The fucking best band ever !!!

  • i prefer rolland on the drums

  • @NewWorldOrder7777 yeah but as the description says... Jesus wept.

  • well, this was an interesting find to be certain. . .

  • Steve Albini = god

  • brilliant.great to watch.awesome live

  • Woah, Peter Prescott! This rules!

  • nerds from hell! or as the UK press put it WHITE DOPES ON PUNK

    genius basically

  • always with the geeky dance moves. they don't need roland to rock. never heard them like this. thnx for posting.

  • Whoa, that's Peter Prescott! Awesome.

  • The guitars sound great

  • I was at this show too. A Homestead showcase. I was and am a bigger Volcano Suns fan. Any chance anyone has their set from this night or any Volcano Suns?

  • nerds with guitars, damn it sounded good though

  • glow god silly putty adhd pantherina

  • awsome video. Wasn't even born when this was filmed. But i got to see Shellac here in Ireland last week. Good to hear that good music is coming across the pond and into the new generation right?

  • I think this was taped a few years' short of a decade before I was born.

No. I wasn't there. Obviously, in order for this music to survive and change more lives and influence music of the future, it has to be appreciated by people who weren't there.

But my God, I'd give all my limbs just to have been there, sweating and jumping and gazing up at Steve, Sant and Dave (and Peter); being deafened by this audible bliss.

  • That's so cool to find someone else who was at this show! I'm Greg, BTW, the person who filmed this. I'll be putting up the entire show soon...

  • @GreenGerg Where's the rest of the Big Black show you promised?

  • Thanks for this add....I was at that show just behind the camera!
