I love this movie, and this is one of my favorite scenes. The score by James Newton Howard is just brilliant, especially during this part. The slow-mo just makes it more perfect. Joaquin is a god in this! Sad that he's now kind of crazy-like.
Umm anyone notice that the window is open (the drapes flutter from the breeze) as Lucious takes her hand and runs inside?lol So much for well-rounded protection from the intruder's.
I 100% agree that this is the romantic scene ever made--its simplicity is exquisite and its wholesome humanness is incredibly beautiful!! She's courageous without seeming "helpless;" there's nothing chauvinistic about this scene. But perhaps since there's no sex and superficial, degrading, primitive bullsh-t under the disguise of "individual empowerment" and agency and appealing to our ignorance rather than our transcendent ideals, the rest of Hollywood might be hard pressed to agree...
@atikker that's because they can't see the movie with their heart and minds...we are watching it in 10th grade English and learning s much from it...ITS AMAZING!!!
kk the one seen where he helps that old lady and then turns the corner and 2 seconds later one of those we don't speak of comes into the screen, wouldn't it have seen him? Just asking, and when I first saw this scene I squeled and screamed yes and got popcorn all over the room lol :D GO LOVE!!!!
@iMightjustbecrazy **SPOILERS** I thought that too when I first watched it. Then I thought.....well if the creatures were the elders all along, they didn't want him to die because him and ivy needed to populate the village. they needed to carry on their work. So obviously they wouldn't kill him, even if he WAS seen. Just my thoughts. Who knows what M Night was thinking.
@BizarroEntertainment I guess your right, they would want to keep him around so I see your point. Thanks for clearing that up for me and I agree its one of my favorite films too, not what I thought it would be when I first saw it but I still love it!
William Hurt, Adrian Brody and Bryce Dallas Howard are the best parts. I love William Hurt's speech with the elders after he sends Ivey to the "towns"
Ah, such a magnificient and---dare I say it?---one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen. Not all mushy and full of Shakespearean monologues, but the simple act of protecting someone, being a comfort. No words necessary.
Simple soundtracks with the same few instruments, excellent use of lighting for warmth and the color, too. M. Night. Shyamalan truly makes masterpieces. His works could be movies first, but best-selling novels after.
i never noticed that there was one of the 'monsters' approaching when she held her hand out and he grabs it... shows how much i pay attention aye? ha:) this seen is amazing!
I love this scene. It makes me proud to be a Male. Men listen up, this is your obligated duty as a guy. Protect the ones you love. Especially your Women.
Instead of high-tech special effects, blood, exploding cars, super zombies and traps, this movie stands here in a majestic way and shines as one of the brightests stars at the nightsky of motion pictures. Why? Because of THIS kind unique moments, made out of great story, unbelieveable music and the magic, that connect it, and which reminds us being human beings and leaving a magical feeling behind, some people called "goosebumps".
This is movie is pure ART, instead of SAW XXVII and other s**t.
yes, this scene is very moving comparable to tarantino's kill bill vol. 2 - a scene where the bride used the 5 point palm exploding heart technique to finish bill.
That scene is just magnificent ! The emotion when he takes her hand and the music.. <3

@Minute158 I'm pretty sure that was just from the draft of Ivy and Lucius' movement near the door.
