I have to wonder? Will their ever be real country again? Haggard, Jones, Gosden, Price, Etc. Etc. Most likely not. We maybe I will hear them in heaven.
OH WHAT A LEGEND MERLE IS--I SAW CONWAY AND CHARLIE PRIDE AND A FEW OTHERS--I CANT SAY HE WAS THE GREATEST COUNTRY EVER--BUT I CAN SAY FOR THE LONGEST CAREER MERLE HAGGARD IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY SINGER TO WALK THIS EARTH. BUT FOR THE SHORTEST CAREER NO ONE COULD TOUCH HANK WILLIAMS-I HAD TO SPLIT IT UP--THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY ONE CAN DO IT--MERLE HAGGARD AND HANK WILLIAMS CANT BE TOUCHED..AND WHY CANT NO ONE IMITATE HANK & MERLE BUT MERLE CAN IMITATE SEVERAL-MMMMMMMMMMM
Merle and Janie ARE an instrument! i'm a guy, but i'll have to say that Merle is my favorite instrument. so many of his songs(the one's he wrote) have meant so much to me at different points in my life it's just unreal. between the writing and his voice, i don't believe there's an equal now or ever. thanks Merle.
AuH20---all well and good Au, but I actually knew Mozart---used to be in his play group when we were much younger! So there! It's my "see-food" diet that's kept going all these years! :-)
@alan4sure - 'YES' - I know - it is a Telecaster Les Paul Acoustic with Black Diamond strings, through two Mesa Boogies and a Howard Dumble amp - and Merle is picking with an 1834 double eagle gold piece - WOW - TONEVILLE DADDIO!
@jehovahuponyou Whatever you think. Telecaster is made by Fender, Les paul is made by Gibson. Separate companies. I have one of each of those guitars. Do you believe in General motors Ford cars too? And he isnot playing an acoustic, any fool knows that is electric. You might fool fools, but not me.
@alan4sure - General Motors IS made by Ford and BMW too! Ford was the first in flight, he and his brother Orville! Look, Dude, do you live in a cave? That guitar, that Merle is playing, IS in fact whatever the Hell I said it is (sorry, I forget at the moment) - I know my guitars like the back of my elbow - so there! I never said it weren't electric - it is with Peezoidatron fretboard pickups, designed by NASA to listen for foot-falls on Mars.
if you watch/ listen kind of closely it looks like she does not quite know the words. She watches him carefully and some words seem a little uncertian
@PinHead432 If you watch Janie on other videos, she watches the lead, to see his/her timing on a song, as to make sure her harmony is right in line with the lead................. Merle sometimes is a little off the beat and she is just making sure her voice is in sync with his......... you can see this quite a bit in some of the Gaither vids too...... God bless
Is this version available for download or purchase anywhere? I own this video, but the cd version doen't have it! Definitely the best version I have ever heard!
Elvis didn't have the first hit with this. In fact Elvis only recorded it in an album. Wiley Walker & Gene Sullivan had a gigantic hit with it in 1941. Flip side was another standard "Live And Let Live". Still the best versions of both in my book.
Also Cindy Walker had a hit with it in the late 40's.
I play When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again at leasr 10 times a day.Merle Haggard does such a good job at singing the spng By the way Elvis was the first one that made a hit with it.Song was written by Wiley Waker co writer Gene Sullivan
Your the one that's not close. That gentleman's name is Norm Stevens. He played lead for Lefty and played on some of Merle's recordings. He's a legend.
Freddie Powers on the Ovation and Janie Frickie singing backup. What a crew!! Great stuff!
@buffler45 Why would you feel enjoying music from a certain time necessitates having been born in that time? You do know there are actually people who still listen to Mozart, don't you? This ain't no different. Or actually it is, in the sense that his own recordings exist for anyone to listen to. Merle will always have an audience. He had one back in '68, he has one today, and he'll have one 100 years from now. That the music industry churns out nothing but crap these days is beside the point.
@buffler45 I used to say I wished I was born back then (I was born in '94) but then I met a women and fell in love. While I hate just about everything about the modern world I cant imagine never meeting her.
He is the bestest of them all.
