at man parks nsw in the 90s was killed when a wdge tail rip his hang glider sheeting apart, also on a documentry a wedge tail clawed a kangaroo as it hoped along ripping its neck then feated on the 5ft male buck shortly after it died.
I'm transfixed by a sound I can hear 1:04-:120. It sounds like an eagle, but it also sounds like a honing sonar type beep noise, blue-shifted as its approaching.
There eas another incident involving a female paraglider as well, so no is not about protecting turf they are actively trying to force paragliders to crash same way they try to force goats down a cliff.
They´re just protecting their territory. They won´t hunt people or children. Even though some of you deserve it. They hunt animals only for their own survival. What about you? Don´t you eat meat and stuff? Same thing, the only difference is that you buy it from the supermarkert. People like you should spend a day with a wedge tailed eagle to see what an amazing animal they are. Honestly.
@gabibrs: Those Eagles followed her all the way through it was not about territory. They were very much actively hunting her by trying to make her crash. I find it amazing how they attacked her shut deliberately trying to cause as much damage as possible. And Yes they hunt for their own survival but for them to choose a paraglider as a prey item must mean they were desperate.
@bannedbyMusloons prey item??!! dude do u hav any idea how big an eagle's territory is? they were probably trying to stop the paragliger because they saw it as a threat, a human is twice as big as anything they would consider prey
@ELMATO9: They are known to prey on mountain goats which are way bigger than they are. Eagles are smarter and more resourceful than you give them credit.
@ELMATO9: I doubt they perceive the parachute as a threat otherwise they would not give chase all the way thrpugh but just to get them away from their nest but oh wait at no moment were any of the pargliders anywhere near a cliff where those eagles nest either so no it was not about protecting turf.
@bannedbyMusloons turf isn't exculsive to were their nest is, and other than planes paragliders are the only other entity that can fly at their level, so they were threatened
@ELMATO9: How it come you never see them attacking other eagles and birds of prey like that then? Your argument falls falt on the fact there is no evidence to support it. However there is factual evidence of them forcing goats which are way larger then them off cliffs to then dine on the remains.
@gabibrs at least this bird is free (not in a cage as some people do)... maybe it's worth spending a day (or a whole life) in a cage to see how amazing that is...
it doesn't. they only eat carrion (dead animals) and their eyesight is so sharp and their eyesight is some thermal sight thing where they can see which parts are hotter or colder. the colder parts are dead animals and they swoop down to eat it. They don't kill humans, theyre good for australia for eating pests like rabbits.
>> Of course don`t get angry at the Wedge Tailed Eagles, they`re only trying to protect their territory & your glider looked like a major threat to them.
By the way, when & where did this happen to you? I`m guessing Southern Queensland..?

@DeafFret the beeping sound you hear at 1:03 is the guy's variometer, not the hawk. Look it up.

Where abouts were you, btw? Terrain looks vaguely reminiscent of Flinders Ranges, but I suppose you could be somewhere in the top end?

There was a woman recently in 'Readers Digest' who had the same attack. She tried pulling Big Ears to get rid of em but it didn't work.
I think when you get in 'Their Air' they attack as they are know for it.
A couple of BIG wing overs may back them off.
