No YOu have to prove me what you are saying, cause what i'm saying is a well known fact.
Just learn what is a note, or ask someone who play piano.
Her highest note is C6, you will not change that fact.Just play the damn note on a key board.
Listen!I've watched to 90% of Whitney's video here on Youtube.I know exactly what I'm talking about, I'm also a fan, just like you!If she really hit a D7 (thing she never did),tell me where on the video?give me the exact moment please.
this was copied and paste from a website of female artist and their vocal range, yes iam a big nippy fan, also they said mariah has a five octave range i love how ppl judge whitney off of the bobby brown era when she came in at 19 she was a spinto soprano, the proof is in clips like im changing here on you tube. and thats not that damn hard. smh
and the name should give it away, iam a female and of course you would be a mariah fan, i noticed that all of her fans, maybe a short few try to short change whitney's range and other things she has done, read this slowly: whitney had a 5 octave range, earlier in her career, after nodules she changed her voice to a mezzo. just because she doesnt use her whistle reg. doesnt mean she doesnt have one again im changing and clips like THE VOICE THAT BEATS ALL OTHERS! PROVES THE TRUTH
GLAD YOU CAN OCTAVES.. maybe you should try to listen to whitney's earlier recordings, and the power in her chest voice, using her falsetto is the best in the world, when mariah speaks dolphin, it becomes out of tune, and very sharp vs whitney who has GREAT TONE QUALITY, and beautiful phrasing. but hey i dont know music. lol
could have fooled me, you seem like another whitney hater, who isnt aware she DID have a 5 octave range at one point in her career, NOW she has a 3 OCTAVE range, but in her prime especially in the 80's its confirmed by ms houston, and many in the music business, even babyface is being quoted as to saying whitney has a 5 octave range, so whitney and babyface are wrong. and you are right smh!
also there are video's showing whitney going into the whistle octave and with tone. just because she doesnt speak dolphin like mariah. dont hate on nippy!
I don't hate her, and for your so called whistling videos, they are jokes! Are you calling those squealings whistles?
I'm not a hater, damned, I just can't stand people saying wrong things.
All you can say is "someone said she has a 5 octaves range", if you are so intelligent, why can't you count her range by yourself? It's not hard, Highest note and lowest note and all you have to do is to count.....And don't call me hater because I don't believe in your stupidity.
for me its about TONE, and projection when at the highest level, so are you saying whitney doesnt have the best chest voice in the world? that what makes her.. her that and the falsetto and many rifts and vibrato with TONE.. not flat, not sharp but in tune. i dont see the big deal with range, but again i rather listen to whitney herself, and FAMOUS artist such as babyface not somone on youtube who has a screenname *cinqoctaves* doesnt mean anything smh!
But tone has nothing to do with range!I don't undertsand why you are sodumb.
Whitney NEVER said she(herself)had a 5octaves range..and yes you can listen to "EVERY" famous personn, being famous dosn't give them more intelligence. The difference between you and me is that you are listenning to people..instead of me,I'm using my brain to count her range by myself, cause I know what i'm talking about.
Anyway, LOVE that performance!Even sick she killed it.
i said if you didnt just scan my post that range doesnt matter to me, i prefer tone in my singer which whitney clearly has over everyone. stop making this a war of words. and whitney has been quoted as saying she has a 5 octave range, check out some of her interviews and hear it from her own mouth. maybe that will stop ur madness
People actually use this to say that Whitney has a whistle register like Mariah (used to)? This could be confused for a voice crack, accident, or a brief scream.. anyone have videos of her actually SINGING a 6th octave+ note? As in sustaining it for more than 0.001 seconds?
ummmmmm.......... yeah, there are not that many videos proving whitneys supposedly whistle register......but she had hit 6 octave head notes which are actually harder to hit. So by default, if she can hit a E6 in head , then why not a whistle note. And when ppl say "whitney had a whistle register" they are by no means saying she had the abilities that of mariah........who soared and controlled that register amazingly. We are merely saying she could go into that register.
yeah that a C7........ kinda like mariah chrips in that mtv performance of emotions. Its A quick high pitch note and is not screamed so she actually sung it. She quickly executed it when she heard her back singer singing a c6 and looks back after
That was so funny how she went up a whole octave higher than her background singer hoarse and not trying. Imagine how high she can go in crystal clear voice. In Control 1987 NYC I am not lying when I said she chirp out a D7/Eb7 in whistle after laughing at the end of the song like this clip.
That wasn't even a C. I heard two notes, one from her and the other from her background singer. I assume you're talking about that cracked squeaky noise that was her "C7" but that was an E, if you wanna call that a note. Her background singer sang a falsetto B5.
I agree with you EJ...that was not a whistle register...some please prove me wrong by finding a video of whitney holding the whistle note longer than 2-3 seconds. Let's be honest Whitney is a singer who expresses her full range, if she really indeed have the register do you honestly think she would hold that back and hide it?
Yes, Whitney indeed had a whistle register and on rare occassion she uses. A lot of Black singers do that! Karen Clark Sheard has one she rarely shows off. That was a note in whistle register, C7!!!!!!!!!
Although, I respect your statement, you have to understand that white singers do that as well. I still have to disagree with you about Whitney's ability of the whistle register. Whitney claims she has a 5 octave range, why is that? because she goes by the japanese scale not the U.S...like I said if whitney had it she would she would use it just like she overuses her head voice which sounds exceptionally good.
I totally disagree Whitney has always had whistle register. She used in 1987 NYC, and I can name at least 7 performances live she hits notes in it. She prefers operatic head voice, but don't get twisted anything MC can do Whitney could in prime added to her big head voice.
Here are at least 5 performances where she hits notes in whistle octave. Spain 1991 Revelation is Here, MNINS 1991 Simple Truth, Brunei 1996, and Kolding, All the Man I Need Live, and Radio City Hall 1993 All the Man I Need, Control 1987 NYC
Whitney hit a C7 get over it, and she has hit higher than this in NYC 1987 D7/Eb7 in Control tribute to Janet. She probably has hit other whistle notes in her career live too!!!!!!
You are crazy c7, d7..... in dec 80 whitney was a spinto soprano, but in 90's she to be a mezzosoprano, because your voice change, but never in past time she do note in 7ª octave. she do a 6 octave d#6 in in Changing in California, she not do Whistle notes boy never.
Because it is more natural for her to sing in chest and head voice does not mean she does not have a whistle register. Thats like saying she does not have mix voice. Primarily she sings, in chest, head, and superhead, and rarely uses mix voice, or whistle, but she does possess those registers. Everyone has a whistle register to extent, its where they know how to use it or access it.
Correction singing in the Flageot Register is natural for any FLAGEOT SINGER...please explain to me the meaning of mix voice b/c i believe their is no such thing...Yes you are coorect everyone does have a whistle register to an extent but that's at infant stages only rare people not necessarily singers grow up and have the register developed with in their voice as they mature. I know these things b/c I am a singer with whistle register abilites.
Whitney from 1983-1992 was a full soprano with very very very heavy coloratura abilities listen to this woman sing coloratura runs in her live SAMFLY in her concerts. I have never heard MC play with her head voice or do bird like notes like Nippy did in this era. Hitting a dog whistle does not count, but stay up there and play with runs in registers. Whitney could with ease, the only singer I heard with this ability is Minnie. Listen to SAMFLY Tokyo 1988 to see what I mean!!!!!!
haha i love her with the little saxophone and how she looks at him :-D

Whitney Houston:
Voice type: Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano
Highest note: C6, B-b5 (In her song 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody')
Lowest note: C3, E3
Vocal range: 5 octaves (C3-C6)
also she was a Spinto Soprano in the beginning of her career.. and switched her voice to a mezzo after the bodyguard.
nasteshia 2 years ago
It's not 5 octaves!It's in american notation!
C3-C6 is 3 octaves in American notation!
C3==>C4 = 1octave
C3==>C4==>C5 = 2 octaves
C3==>C4==>C5==C6 = 3octaves
6 minus 3 = 3, it's not that hard damn!

this was copied and paste from a website of female artist and their vocal range, yes iam a big nippy fan, also they said mariah has a five octave range i love how ppl judge whitney off of the bobby brown era when she came in at 19 she was a spinto soprano, the proof is in clips like im changing here on you tube. and thats not that damn hard. smh

That prooves nothing!
Do you even know how to count octaves?
Mariah TRULY HAS A 5 OCTAVES range, because she mastered the WHISTLE register! Her range is A2-G#7!(not trying to start any rivalery)
I'm not judging Whitney, the fact is that she never goes higher than C6, which is not whistle.
You are just another personn speaking and arguing about something he doesn't know. That's sad.

How can Whitney have a 5octaves range if she does not even have whistle register? You know nothing, bottom line.
You are talking about Whitney's earlier voice, but I know WHITNEY!I know her voice, the changes,I'm also a Whitney fan!
I'm not trying to change anything or to put something away from her.The fact is that her range is 3octaves and that Mariah's range is 5octaves.
If Whitney's range is 5octaves,what is Mariah's one?7octaves?
I love both, but I can't stand ignorant people like you.

5:28 is a C7# and she does it mad effortlessly. The background is like B5 but she hits the whistle tone 5:28 and she was sick too.

who this debate on rather it was a c7.. its really deep..
i love whitney houston and agree.. c7.. and it was planned due to her background singer. showing off.

just only idiots say "she do a C7", in this don't have a C7, a backvocal do 2 high notes and Whitney one high note.
Back vocal do B5 and Bb5 in Falseto note and Whitney do a litle C6 in Head voice!!!!
listen with atention
