I personally think there should be a federal law stating all new crossing must be quad gates. I think it's a grand idea, really I do. Ped gates are nice additions too. I like how the gates retract quickly. That's good if someone wants to jump the gate and might knock into it.
The delayed gates on the crossing exit lanes are so that cars on the track or just starting across when the crossing activates... aren't stuck on the crossing. They still have an escape route before the train reaches the highway.
I agree with you. That's the way RR crossings should've been in the first place. Then you wouldn't have people driving around the gates trying to beat & outrun the train across the tracks. I don't know why people are just so damn impatient. I live in Mountain Top PA USA & not a single one of the RR crossings has any crossing gate what so ever. Which I think is really rediculous to start with. To me that's like an invitation for people to try to outrun a train.
my opinion is that a railroad crossing should just need a train to blow its horn Maybe lights at busier crossings People should know enough not to drive around a crossing when a trains comming but they dont so thats why we have these warning systems and barriers
A no no is right!! I think that RR crossings should have police officers sitting there to catch people who try to gun it across the tracks & not stop. Maybe it would save more lives. I mean they catch people for speeding so why not catch people who won't wait for a train to go by? I think it makes sense.
I agree with you completely, but position is everything. If a police officer is sitting in front of the crossing and the car guns out, chances are, the police officer will get caught at the crossing. Now if there was a police officer after the crossing, then they'll be able to catch em.
That is a better solution. I once got a citation because for crossing the tracks as the warning lights went off. The only problem is that I was basically crossing the track when the warning lights and bells went off. If I had tried to stop, I would have done on the tracks. A cop saw me on the other side and cited me. I fought the ticket and won.

the gold line should of been at grade seperation

But that is expensive. Besides, it's safe as long as the drivers don't stop on the tracks.

I do agree on crossings should be protected and people should stop being impatient they don't relize trains are really big and can kill you.

There's quite a lot of quad gate crossings in the UK.
WrongRoadRailways 2 years ago
Note that those "gates" (barriers) don't quite seal it off, they are nor skirted.

Someone went through the crossing as the lights came on. You should show this to the police because that is a no no.

Did you see that red car try to get past the gates while the bells were ringing? That person's stupid.
jasonsli2 4 years ago
That person is also asking for a fat ticket, as well.
MrMemories 4 years ago
hahaha...yeah
jasonsli2 4 years ago
Giving the driver a fat ticket is not the answer. Suspend his license for 6 months for running the gates will prevent this.
