"He's not going to LET you use those techniques!" Thank you. This is the dangerous reality that many of these martial arts classes don't teach. It's always going to be the worst case scenario when the real thing comes along, and this is important to emphasize.
And, yes, by putting your fingers to your sternum and pressing in, it will stop his hands from getting up to your throat, unless he pulls his hands out and goes around your arms. Again, motion causes motion and if you ain't moving by then, nothing me or anyone else out there is gonna give you is gonna work. Good luck with all your training.
By attacking the knee, with you foot facing the floor, you stand a much better chance of landing on your feet, rather than having one foot entangled into his body. From there you run through the drill again, move forward, stomp the feet, so he can't get you back into the air, head, then butt, to give you some wiggle room, and take yourself off the line of fire. Finish from there, what ever finish is your flavor.
And finally, at 1:20, you use the same escape you made fun of at 0:31, except you choose not to maintain control the attacker's arm, and that is supposed to make it a good technique.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS EFFORTLESS SELF-DEFENSE! You have to earn everything. The foot stomps, head butts, and butt strikes is what allows you to do any skills to get away. Whatever you want to do or what ever we're showing here. If you don't do any of that then you might as well kiss your ass goodbye.
Hang tight, I am having a hard time following the conversation between you and my partner. Sir,
should he get you off the ground you could do a heel hook, however, if you do you will probably end up face first into the floor, because of the body mechanics. When he gets you up he must bend his knees. Jason Tiner, my guy in the video, was California's strongest man 3 years ago, and he doesn't posses the power to pick me up with out bending his knees.
Thirdly, at 1:16 you actually put yourself right into that choke position you poked fun at at 0:40. It's actually even worse because not only are you carrying his hands to the choking position, you're also arching your back for him.
I'm not a computer guy and I think I accidentally deleted the 2nd point. Something about heel hooking the groin. While we're here in Fantasy Land, why don't we use the force that Yoda taught us and shoot lightning into the attacker. As far as putting myself into the choking position, theory is great for the internet. When you get headbutt in the face, all you think about is the pain. Not to mention that your hands are trapped so you can't bring them up.
It is unfortunate that you find a heel hook to be a complex or magical kick. It is really quite easy to do, especially when the attacker has already placed himself at the appropriate angle.
You made no mention of a headbutt in the video. I agree that would be a viable strike.
I'm not sure what you mean by "your hands are trapped." Your hands are not trapped, only your upper arms. Either way, I don't see how that has anything to do with raising the attacker's arms to your neck as you have done.
The head butt is a 1:15 of the video. The high / low concept. When I lock the pinkies into the sternum, you are unable to move your arms, THEY ARE TRAPPED!
This video is a demonstration of what to do and more importantly what not to do. I wouldn't even think about trying to set up a heel hook, finger lock, or any other Bulls**t technique to get out of this situation. Maybe we'll refilm them and show someone getting their ass handed to them because they tried to heel hook the groin.
I might have been confused by the "your" references in your posts. I understand what you're saying now regarding the hands. I still don't see how a pinky to the sternum is greater than grabbing their wrist.
I am 5'6. Your partner appears to be quite a bit taller than me. If he were to pick me up too quickly for a stomp, as he likely could and as you indicate is his intent, what option do I have but a heel hook to the groin?
@puppyavenger The problem with locking a grab onto his wrists is now youre in a wrestling match. He reacts to that, you probably end up in a choke or with your face buried into the curb.
@davids11131113 I'm not quite sure I follow your argument. Pinning with the pinkies and grabbing the wrist are both going to put you in the proposed wrestling position. They are both controlling moves, I just think one is better than the other.
I really don't see it as wresting in the first place, though. The pinning/grabbing is simply a temporary control to avoid being choked while you initiate your striking response.
@Kuroiryu146 No, theyre not. You dont get it, he cant really feel you trapping his hand in THIS manner shown, if you GRAB his wrists, THEN HE reacts, not what you want. Soon as he feels you grabbing his wrists then HE is back in control of you and will side throw you or worse choke you, you've just turned it into a strength on strength match and the element of surprise is out the window. You cant rely on being attacked by someone smaller and weaker than you, youve got to train hes far stronger.
@davids11131113 I don't agree that me grabbing his wrists puts him in control. By that logic, one could say that him grabbing you in a bearhug puts you in control, which doesn't make sense. In fact, the point of the pinkie pin as stated in the video was to control his arms so he can't choke you. If the pinkie pin actually does what it's supposed to, and the guy tries to choke you, he'll notice you're pinning his arms just as much as if you grabbed him.
@Kuroiryu146 Well if you dont agree that by grabbing his wrists puts him in control then youre violating the concepts of VAJ and just arguing against the system. You cant assume you can do all this against someone bigger than you, maybe jacked up full of PCP, a cold killer...element of surprise is central to this system so youre just arguing against that. See in your comment you assume you just do a move and are easily out of the situation, I dont. I assume he's been training in prison.
@davids11131113 I'm not sure what you're talking about in your first sentence. I assume that stands for Vee Arnis Jitsu and if that's a principle taught there then, yes, I am arguing against the system, which was my intent from the beginning. My other posts on this address the size issue so I am taking that into account which is why I don't trust my pinkie to hold him.
@Kuroiryu146 OK well if youre arguing against the system, maybe you should just come show Shihan Petrone how its done in person instead of video comments! :D
I'd pay to see that show! I've been with him on seminars to prison guard groups, police, I'll tell you what if you can come in and baffle him or Eric, then I'll eat my leather coat on the SPOT! Deal?
@davids11131113 Further, the attacker in this situation is actually the one with element of surprise. While he may go to a choke if you get into a tussle with him, if he wanted to choke you, he could have done so before bear hugging you. The point of the pinkie pin or a grab is to prevent him from switching to a choke after you've started your defense, and if the fist thing you do is grab, that should prevent any possible chokes anyway.
@Kuroiryu146 YEA! If youre in a rear bear grab you HAVE been surprised no doubt! Thats why you cant assume you just easily get out of it. Look, we're now arguing about 2 different things, when I trained with Sensei John here I NEVER assumed best case scenario or figured Im strong so I always have the upper hand, we train for worse case scenario, not some 'Learn 1 simple move and youre home free' stuff. Youve got to assume it goes wrong, and your attacker is better, crazier, and stronger.
@puppyavenger <--This guy is just a fake sock account channel anyway, never commented on any other video except this one. The internet is a very weird place.
@davids11131113 This is not a sock account, this is simply my account. I just choose not to comment on much but I felt there was enough in this video worth mentioning. The internet is indeed a weird place where one can have their arguments supposedly invalidated by the number of posts they've made prior rather than the logic or illogic of the arguments they present.
I don't find the technique to be particularly practical.
First off, at 0:57, you insinuate that simply folding three fingers from each hand back over the attacker's forearms are going to stop him from choking you. Doubtful. You also poked fun at the concept of grabbing his hands at 0:31 yet seem to think that controlling them with your pinky is great.
The keyboard warriors are out in force on this video. Grabbing the hands will not stop him from choking you, the body mechanics aren't there. Folding the pinky fingers over his arms locks everything in and stops any movement from the attacker.
I think you have great stuff! One of the largest problems with almost all the videos on here is that they do not take into account what the attacker will do. Real fights happen fast and dirty, not like in hollywood. You dont have time for fancy pants moves.
I really like your stuff, I think it is realistic as all hell! Like I said, in reality, fights happen extremely fast, and you may try all the karate kid moves on the planet, but the other guy is just trying to win at any means!
Seems like your doing a whole bunch of nit picking to me Afrikan. This tech looks clear and basic. This isn't posted as a rule it's a guide. So you can see what he offers. Who care if it's Te 6, 8 or 100. You realize most of the world doesnt even know what that is right. The video does exactly what it should.
Its B.S. its incomplete either way you look at it wether he is bigger or not they still have the same anatomical targets if the goal is to get out of range then cool he will come back and get you later. this is not complete point blank but you wont hear another word I will continue to show real Vee-Jitsu! MVJ
I repeat you are nit picking. Maybe an attempt to sell your school , I don't know but this clearly shows how to get out of a a back grab attack. As the poster says it builds on the concept I CAN MOVE FASTER FORWARD THAN YOU CAN MOVE BACKWARD!
I just saw some of the MVJ videos. I could easily nit pick those videos but why there are clear mistakes on those videos as well. However they do what they are suppose to do. SHOW WHAT YOUR SCHOOL HAS TO OFFER. Yet you post something from the same system is BS. Guys like you are to full of ego..
Let's get this straight. This defense does not push an attacker and then pull him back. This is the concept: I CAN MOVE FASTER FORWARD THAN YOU CAN MOVE BACKWARD!
When you drive a man he is going to fight to keep his balance. When he does he is going to try to STOP, this is when you stomp the knee and take him down to the ground.
Against a bigger, stronger man you are not going to Reap, Throw, or Lock. Get yourself out of harm's way!
I have posted them. Believe me I love Vee-Jitsu and Modern Vee-Jitsu is coming out the shadows. GM James has come from the best in the world, but a more complete version of Te-6 which is what this is is posted below.
And you are correct this is very basic and to the point but, dont push an opponent away then pull him or her back. there was no respect to the attackers counter strike. Also if he does happen to get that choke started immediatly go into your throw. Make him breakfall.
Now why would you push an attacker away and then pull them back?
1. you secure the hold from the attacker
2. use your head
3. push up butt back
4. stomp
5. could be a series of things reap, throw, lock, additional strikes.. etc. Now who ever reads this please dont push the attacker away just to attempt to bring him back you are giving this guy a chance to fight at this point.....
"He's not going to LET you use those techniques!" Thank you. This is the dangerous reality that many of these martial arts classes don't teach. It's always going to be the worst case scenario when the real thing comes along, and this is important to emphasize.
