Written by a Japanese composer, performed by Israeli musicians, and listened to by people from around the world. Music is the one true international language.
@MisterFanwank Everything that has meanings can be called a language, language is a way for us to communicate and understand each other, and by far most of the musics carry beautiful meanings with them, with or without singers, and this music is no exception.
In case of this music, it represents in the anime as the music of unity that brought two factions of different species to live together in peace and harmony. It's just opinions.
@Willy2537 Ok, I suppose it's a "language." However, I object to it being a "universal language." For sure, different cultures have different leitmotifs and in general it's incredibly subjective. If it is at all a "language," it is a very weak one that cannot reliably convey the proper message or a very hard one to understand. Either way, it's far from "universal."
@MisterFanwank I never did said that songs are 'universal language', as those who can't understand the meaning the song brings cannot understand what it's trying to tell us. But at least the emotions singers and/or composers use for is pretty much summed up feelings the song give. But yeah, it's not a universal language.
@MisterFanwank Yeah, perhaps I was a little overzealous when I typed that. I was caught up by the fact that this recording was an international endeavour which is appreciated around the world. I guess the best way to rephrase it would be that music has the power to bridge cultural gaps and form bonds brought about by a shared loved of a medium and a style.
Every time I hear this song I am torn between tears and goosebumps I agree with Agdragoon, it would be a good base for a theme for the UN if we ever united as a world.
Sounds like a morning salute for veterans, warriors and those who chose a life of service risking everything each and everyday for the greater good of mankind.
that would be nice....and I would like the capitol city of the earth to be Geneva, Switzerland. The city alway acts as the capitol for many UN groups....
You know you're an otaku cause you stand during the National Anthem to Macross Plus.. lol

@revolt1915 But what is the music saying? I'd hardly call it a language if that question even has to be asked.

Apparently we already have one, Brian Eno's "An Ending."
Btw, I'm assuming that you mean a legitimate alien threat would constitute the establishment of a world army.
