  • nice pickin ever think of lowerin the bridge to help with the high action ?

  • Now thaaaats what im talkin abouuuut..... Awesome job picking. Any chance you would tab that out sometime? Thanks!

  • @MusiciansForums I don't even have the patience to read tab anymore. Writing tab sounds even less appealing... Bob Brozman's "Folk to Jazz" DVDs and Stefan Grossman's "Fingerpicking Country Blues" DVD have tab for "Sister Kate" that I used to come up with this version. Hope that helps.

  • Beauuuuuuuudiful. Is that in regular tuning? Why the capo?

  • @GingerBonzo Thanks! Yup, standard tuning. Action was really high, so the capo just made it easier to play.

  • whatever strings you prefer i guess, but most people seem to use nickel strings. any old electric set will do i suppose. i've never changed the strings on mine but i think it's got a set of nickel mediums on it. thanks for the kind words.

  • can you please tell me what strings a guitjo uses as im thinking of getting one thanks :P. cool song by the way.

  • Nice pickin' man!!!

  • Really nice!

  • that's brill, most impressive

  • Fine asss picking.

Can really feel you straining to make her sound 'decent'.

Mission a accomplished. job well done.

Love to hear you on a well set up instrument.

  • i just got one i had to sand down the bridge action was too high after that its bad ass

  • Sounds really good!

  • hey Mike - was messin around looking for some youtube vids of the Lowebow and found your guitjo pickin - nice rag - sounds great.

  • @harpdog52 Thanks, Ross! I need to play that guitjo more often. Got it hangin' on the wall now in the music room. You need to come over soon and play! Those Lowebows are awesome! I'd love to get me one.

  • I watched this like 15 times I love it, thank you! Have a tab for this song or something similar?

  • @dcmedia2 Much thanks! No tab for this exactly, but I learned this by scrunching together two versions of "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate" and adding my own little bits. The DVDs I used (one from Bob Brozman, another from Stefan Grossman) have tab.

  • @MSB76 Thanks a lot for the info, I figured you just made it up, borrowing from here and there, that's what it's all about. You look like your in pain in one part from the high action...I really want a Guitjo / banjitar now!

  • NIIIIICE

  • Wow! Nice. Are you fingerpicking or guitar picking?

  • @tlatta230 Thanks. Regular old alternating bass style fingerpicking.

  • Fantastic!! I have been dancing all time!! Good job!!

  • Love it, can't listen to it without tapping my feet and smiling :-)

  • what dvds should i get to play like this?

  • check out guitarvideos (dot) com and homespuntapes (dot) com. as i mentioned in another comment, i learned this from two different dvds and smooshed it together. i will pm you with specific recommendations (youtube won't let us put links in comments...

  • Love the sound of those 'guitar banjos.' And you can play the hell out of it, too. Good stuff.

  • didn't know sean booth played banjo

  • nice!!

  • you kick MUCHO ass, bro. I can only hope to someday suck compared to you.

  • Nice!!!

I ordered one.. should be here in a few days..

I was wondering if if capoed ok...Obviously it does well .. awesome..!!

This should spice up some of my recordings..

  • I just recently had this thing set up for the first time. Luthier tweaked the action some (was really high when it was given to me) and replaced the weatherking head with a fiberskyn head. it's the closest thing you can get to a real animal skin head without having to deal with the precarious nature of real skin. has a much warmer tone now. i highly recommend it, but some people do prefer a brighter tone. dif'rent strokes....

  • such a fun song. how long it take you to play like that?

  • Thanks. I've been playing guitar for about six years (played bass for 4 years before that...). I just bought a bunch of good instructional DVDs and studied hard for a long time.

This song is a version of "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister" that I learned from two separate DVDs: one from Bob Brozman, another from Stefan Grossman.

  • Nice man! I should be ordering me a 6 string banjo on friday. I can't wait!

  • you got my daughter drumming and dancing and me foot tapping... you sound great!

  • great stuff !!
