Wow, I am just overwhelmed by the level of the rhetoric here. Reminds me of 'Prime Minister's Questions'... NOT!
Let's step back from the crack pipe and try a little introspection (for those with the necessary equipment):
When President Hoover left office in 1932, he left incoming President Roosevelt with a sizeable federal budget surplus. This gave the new president the resources needed to deal with a simultaneous famine, market collapse, a polio epidemic and the growing fascist threat ...
@83169 Now fast-forward to 2000. During Al Gore's presidential campaign, both he and the president made political hay out of the budgut surplus they had created. The problem is,it was a PROJECTED surplus based on the fact the Clinton had, in fact, balanced the budget, but still had not made a dent in the mass debt he inherited. And his PROJECTION was based on then current economic trends and tax policies, which unfortunately, never remain static.
@83169 Now, Governor Bush, durin his presidential campaign correctly pointed out that the "surplus" was a projection which was yet to materialize, and besides no one can accurately make predictions about what, if any, kind of surplus might result. In otrher words, the surplus didn't actually exist.
@83169 The trouble is, after correctly pointing out that the surplus didn't exist, as soon as Bush became president, he said that the surplus belonged to the american people, and not the government (as if the money had suddenly, and perhaps magically, appeared in the federal treasury), and he wrote everyone a check for $300. Now think about that, 310 million checks for $300. That's serious money, even in Washington.
@83169 See, I almost never accept the "conventional widom" on anything, because I can connect the dots for myself, but if you get your anti-news and anti-information from the usual suspects (cnbc, fox, cnn, msnbc, am talk radio), then you don't even get the dots to connect. NO F'N DOTS!
Now, I know I've made y'all feel icky bringing up something you can't just push off onto the politicians (Republican or Democrat), SO GET READY, GET SET, RANT111
@83169 P P S I hope you really enjoyed that $300 dollars, because it's going to cost you at least double that with the compound interest on the national debt.
@83169 I'd love to address the healthcare issue, but you people are even more clueless (imagine that) regarding healthcare, than you were regarding the shrub's funny money...
Slaughter's partnering with Nancy Pelosi to push socialized health down our throats- though America has voiced it's opposition to it for months, and very intensely in recent weeks. YOU DO NOT LISTEN, Slaughter. Though your poll #'s are down in the -20 range and Pres. Obama's approval is now 46, disapproval 48, you all continue to push your Marxist way of life on us. But Americans don't like your idea of ruining America, of making her poor & powerless-- And we will continue to fight!!

Ms. Slaughter, you are a disgrace & shouldn't be in Congress! You should be forced out NOW because of your current attempt to blatantly disregard our Constitution of the United States by passing a bill into law that has not met the constitutional requirements/protocol for passage. You DO NOT represent us Americans-- you represent, solely, the interests of your FAR-LEFT buddies who want to stomp on the Constitution and further empower yourselves to lord-over the lives of every American.
If you were concerned about "making stuff in the United States", you would be concerned about MAKING PEOPLE WELL! And that farce you call the healthcare bill that you liberal radicals are pushing will not help improve people's healthcare. It will in fact RUIN our health, & ruin U.S. research which saves lives the world-round.
If Ted Kennedy were still alive, Ted could talk about one of his whore running buddies who did not have health insurance and had to use his dead brothers penis pump. The bad thing for him was that his dead brother was less endowed so the living brother only "few at half mast". What a shocking development that would be in America. A friend of Ted Kennedy wearing his dead brothers penis pump that was too small because he did not have health insurance. The Democrats are so pathetic its laughable.
This has nothing to do with Sara Palin.Lets do healthcare wright, that is the fight! Why do these people want to pass a bill that no one nows anything about? This trash is taking our credit card to mall while we work. I'm totally sick of it all, all of them. I'm sick of paying and watching my dollar being misused and abused. Can't they fucking learn how to save a dollar. The deficit is sickening. Think about it, Only reckless spending will make your credit card overlimited. This shit is enough. I'm totally sick of it. If you can't spend my dollar in a more constructive means,,,, than quit asking for it!!
I'm just gonna say this. Us little folk need to learn by now that know matter your choice of political party doesn't matter. They are a bunch of cheating, corrupt, self indulgent, money hungry, spree spending (on our dime), cigar smoking cognac drinking piles of shit. I'm sick of them all. goverment is fucking us all!!!!!
Get educated. You are probably an intelligent person, but just lack a good education.
I myself, at one time was very lacking in knowledge. Then I got educated and am still learning. Most people are smarter than they realize.
Such, does not mean that educated people do not have areas that keep a person humble, however. lol... Just read through my site and you'll see where my humbling areas are.
one last thought: please, please, i'm begging you please, do misinforming anti-christian, do everything in your power to spread your message. and just when you think you can't do anymore, suck it up and carry on. insular, paranoid and ignorant is the way i like my republicans. that's why i'm doing everything i can to promote sarah palin's presidential candidacy for 2012. incidentally, i am not a democrat. just a humble anti-repugnican independent. :)
okay, misinforming anti-christian, i never said that government was empowered to take over industry, i said, as does the constitution, that the federal government has the power to regulate interstate commerce. the fact that you continuously misrepresent the facts, and the statements of those with whom you disagree shows that at some level you know your position is indefensable. kinda like when someone cheats in a chess match... check and mate! :)
Congress is not allowed to take over industry, under the commerce clause. That is ridiculous, to say the least.
It is a chilling thing to hear that Congresswoman slaughter is bringing up foreign trade in this health care issue.
If she really wants the cost of our product to go down, perhaps she should put forth a bill that would lower the taxes on American industry. Hey, what a concept!
democratic socialism on the other hand (as practiced in most of western europe) socializes the infrastructure, but leaves all or most industry in private ownership. as far as preventing any sort of socialism in this country, that ship has sailed, but the thing i like about socializing the infrastructure, is that if my house catches fire, someone will not only come put it out, but as a result protect my neighbors' house. also, if i make a poo-poo, when i flush, it goes away... weigh kewl... :)
also, for those who don't mind facts entering into the discussion, communism is a dictatorship of the proletariat controlling the means of production, and does not allow for private enterprise in any fashion.
look, misinforming christian, the commerce clause allows the federal government to regulate interstate trade, and since virtually all insurance companies are either national or multi-national, the powers of government to regulate them is explicitly spelled in the constitution.
they rant and rave about vague abstractions they barely understand, if they understand at all, and the courseness of their rhetoric (no suprise) is reflected in their counterproductive government.
rant rant rant... look i've resided in four different corners of the lower 48, and my business causes me to travel a great deal, and it never ceases to astonish me, just how provincial and ignorant americans, and especially "conservative" americans can be.
she won 78% of the vote in 2008 what is going on in that district? Are there no business people who are conservative and run aginst this liberal ding bat? You folks who live in this district used to rusty old factory buildings.
Though, I would not call her a "ding bat," because she is actually quite intelligent, I very much so want to see her voted out of office.
But make no mistake, Louise Slaughter is NO ding-bat. She knows exactly what she is doing.
There is, however a difference between intelligent and wise. It is not wise to do that which she is doing. It is not wise to do most of what the Democrats are doing, and much of the Republican's do too.
I have been talking to area businesses, and will be talking to more.
Perhaps if area business people contact Congresswoman Slaughter and let her know that they don't want to have government health care forced on them, their business and their employees, maybe she will change her stand.
For the record, there are more people who sit out voting, here in update New York. I am working to reach those people, too, for this next election.
I would encourage you to run get involved. your comments are great.. Louise Slaughter's comment at the so called health summit was in my opinion ding-batish...
I agree with you that her comments could be seen that way, if someone did not know how educated Louise Slaughter is. I just think that she plays that way, so that her constituents that fall for it, will think she is one of them. It is kind-of down playing to them.
Some people have told me to run, but a person needs a lot of money.
I keep praying that she will have a change of heart, but if not, that someone else will get in.
Sad to say, there is a higher risk of a woman who suffers from domestic abuse, actually being abused again.
I just find it hard to believe that an insurance company would deny such a woman health care coverage. --I suppose that there is good and bad in types of business. But I would think that the woman could find a better company that would take her.
I am going to ask my company what they would do.
No matter what, congress is not given the power to take over our health care.
Unfortunately, in 34 states, 75% of the insurance market is controlled by five or fewer companies. In Alabama, almost 90% is controlled by just one company. Without competition, the price of insurance goes up and the quality goes down. And it makes it easier for insurance companies to treat their customers badly by cherry-picking the healthiest individuals and trying to drop the sickest; by overcharging small businesses who have no leverage; and by jacking up rates.
And so begins the race to the bottom. The problem is, while Obama and the Republicans agreed that interstate insurance commerce was a possibility, Republicans will never vote to enact appropriate minimum standards. I'm more comfortable with the federal government having recourse to enact legislation slowing the race before its effects become too pervasive. The unreality of their math and the underlying assumptions are so gross as to be purely cynical.
Eight states have declared domestic violence a pre-existing condition? Regardless of where you stand on the issues, you have to agree that Louise elevated beyond the soundbite at the health care summit.
1 - The commerce clause is for Congress to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations. That does not give Congress the right to take over American industries or health care benefits.
2 - We are the U.S.A. We go by our constitution, not by that which other countries do.
3 - That is a local issue.
But would a home owners insurance company pay for a new kitchen that had a fire in it before they covered the home?
Before reading my below comment, please note that I am one of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's constituents, who has tried to get her to understand how I and many others like me feel on the issue of government ran health care. And I have a screen shot picture of my below post. It would be wrong if my below post is removed. Such would indicate that only those who agree with Louise are allowed to comment. ...Debra
Louise Slaughter is a 4' talking turd. Thanks a lot for ruining health care, bitch.

@913kellbell,
The answer is not to have the federal government take over health care .
Perhaps we could get the federal government to stop blocking true competition, by allowing insurance companies to cross state lines.
You see the federal government stands in the way of insurance companies from one state, doing business in another state.
There would be far more insurance companies doing business in those 34 states, if companies could cross state lines.
Great topic...

No one thinks about government running anything well until they need to call 911.
How is that working out?

@treat2day
And when you call 911 because you are critically ill or injured, they take you to hospital for HEALTHCARE.

5) Given the facts, people can respectfully disagree on any issue, but without the facts, you are truly screwed...
God bless you anywho... :)

InformingChristians, regarding your preface: you can tell more about a person from what they say about others, than from what others say about them.
1) Actually it does. Go back and read the commerce clause.
2) All of the countries with successful exporting auto industries have universal healthcare.
3) Would you sayn the same thing if my tax dollars paid to put out your house fire?
4) Which bill are you talking about? The dem versions do cover dental, but the republican versions do not...

83169,
1 - The commerce clause is for Congress to regulate Commerce with foreign Nations. That does not give Congress the right to take over American industries or health care benefits.
2 - We are the U.S.A. We go by our constitution, not by that which other countries do.
3 - That is a local issue.
But would a home owners insurance company pay for a new kitchen that had a fire in it before they covered the home?
4 - The democrat bill does not include dental.
5 - Yes, we need the facts.

@ 83169,
I don't know why my reply to you disappeared, it even had a thumbs up.
Anyway, I stand by my first comment on this thread. The commerce clause does not give congress the power to take over industry.

Before reading my below comment, please note that I am one of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's constituents, who has tried to get her to understand how I and many others like me feel on the issue of government ran health care. And I have a screen shot picture of my below post. It would be wrong if my below post is removed. Such would indicate that only those who agree with Louise are allowed to comment. ...Debra

1 - The U.S. Constitution does not give Congress the power to take over health care.
2 - Taking over health care is NOT the answer to lowering the cost of our exports, in an effort increase sales to foreign markets.
3 - The redistribution of money, with the hopes of paying for a woman's dentures, is stealing.
4 - There is no dental coverage in the health care bill.
5 - Discussing the health care bill contents, is not nit-picking. It is wise, responsible and very informing.
