@GylchrisSprauve Really? That's your snarky analysis? She's the WILD CHILD of opera. She might not be the number singer today, but she's light years ahead of anyone in my lifetime that is the most watchable.
@IAmTheOverseer Yeah, that's all I had to say. I first became familiar with Anna Bolena as a listener, not as a viewer. Though the acting in this staging was very compelling, in fact without reproach, given all of the emotions that the ill-fated Tudor Queen was experiencing at that moment, the singing that accompanied the image in this video didn't match the bravura singing that originally drew me to this Donizetti rarity. So, with my glass half-full, it's "interesting" for me.
She's a very strong performer, maybe the singing is not as perfect as we would like to be, but as a whole it is good. I dont need Bolene, which sings perfectly and cannot act and just stands there... I prefere this... But, I know many prefere the oposit.
Actually, I think she acquitted herself well. It is a very tense moment, an unjust beheading. It's the time for very loud singing, and she's up to it. As an additional plus, I hear, unlike a number in the role, she actually sang the notes as Donizetti wrote them.
hmm first video of her singing chubby (after giving birth) that I saw, not as good as she used to be, agreeing with johndlabella in the post below that singers sign contracts ahead...guess she has to do it for met x.x
In here defense, singers are made to sign contracts so many years in advance; they have to predict where their voice will be years in the future; which is unrealistic and unfair to the singer as well as the ticket paying public. Although, it makes sense that you NOT sign for roles that are more than one vocal category of weight from your current one. Lapses in judgement from every quarter - The Met administration, her voice teacher (assuming she keeps with one), she herself, her coaches.
The role of Anna Bolena is one of those roles wich shows a singers true artistry and vocal gifts. This is just another case as many others where it's lacking.
Poor Netrebko, she should have somebody to tell what to sing and what not!Or she should have had somebody. This is an example how a voice -hardcore exploited for 10 years-is rapidly coming
She does have a good voice -otherwise she wouldnt be at the Met BUT its way to heavy a voice for this part and any bel canto reperertoire very poor choice of a soprano to sing this but she sells tickets - yet, who is out there these days who can sing this repertoire the way it's supposed to be sung !
This is lovely, thanks for posting, but in case someone does not know, HD eats your download allowance really quickly. Meaning, it uses it up and unless you are on unlimited allowance, you may pay charges for each GB used. Is this not available in non-HD by any chance? And now sadly I will say I am not such a great fan of Netrebko. But I know others will enjoy this very much.

¿NO ENTIENDO, PORQUE ALGUNOS DEMASIADOS ESQUISITOS, POR DECIRLO DE
UNA MANERA ELEGANTE; DISCREPAN EN OPINIONES SOBRE ESTA ANNA BOLENA
Y SOBRE ESTA CANTANTE? QUE EN VERDAD ES DE LAS MEJORES INTERPRETES,
DE HOY DIA, EN MATERIA DE BEL CANTO.
¿HO ES QUE PREFIEREN LAS BOCHORNOSAS Y RIDICULAS VERS. DE FLEMIMG, DESSI, ALIBERTI, NEGRI, RICCIARELLI O LA HOORRENDAA DE CABALLE.
CREO QUE HAY QUE AGUDIZAR, UN POOQUITOO, EL OIDO, Y DARSE CUENTA QUE
ES UNA GRAN INTERPRETE, TIENE PERSDONALIDAD ¿Y ESO MOLESTA?
