Derek Webb - intro to The Wedding Dress

I hear that Derek Webb has supported Ron Paul. Can anyone verify this? Ron is a great man, that respects individuals and wants to preserve all Life and Liberty. End the Wars.

This is NOT about homosexuality. He is talking about the book The Prayer of Jabez and the Prosperity Gospel, that God is there to give you prosperity if you just pester him enough in the right way. The Wedding Dress is often compared in the Gospels to Baptism, whereby we are made white and clean by no ability of our own. Christ is compared to the Groom, and the Church the Bride.

For those who know scripture and the story of Hosea and Gomer, this song should sound familiar. In the book of Hosea, God tell Hosea to take a harlot as a wife. She practices harlotry after their wedding, but eventually Hosea/God take her back. This is the Gospel. While we were sinners (Gomer) Christ died for our sins. He will take His people out of harlotry, which is good news.

he wasn't commending homosexuality, he was condemning the hypocritical words that Christians or people who hate gays often employ. While Jesus calls us to love others despite their sins many still speak out in anger or hate.

@rolltide16ns @rolltide16ns He isn't "commending homosexuality" in that song. He's criticizing Christians who are hateful. That is the point of the song... it is very clear, it is not meant to be written to all Christians though, just the ones who hate homosexuals, treat them harshly or unlovingly.

I kind of think he may have went a bit too far with the language... but that's just my opinion. I sill respect him for speaking his mind, and speaking the truth.

@JamesHarmerMusic I think the language is also used to make a point though...yeah, it's unexpected, but I think he's trying to prove that people get upset about a curse word and ignore the real problems. At least, that's what I feel..

I think Derek Webb is right, but more important than that: What he said he said out of love. I think he truely wants what is best for the Church.

@sirmovesalot17: Yes, there are many things wrong in the RCC today, BUT their great strength is that it can speak with ONE VOICE on behalf of half of all the christians around the globe! I think that should be an example of unity to all of us. And we should also look at ourselves as bigforrents already pointed out.

Stylesd02, You asked what exactly is wrong with the book... It creates the impression that if you pray a formula type of prayer (i.e., the "prayer of Jabez") that somehow you will get God's blessing. First, Jabez just wanted more land. Second, Jabez's example is in the middle of a long line of genealogies, and while he is being commended by his prayer, there is nothing remarkable about praying what Jabez prayed. PT 1 of 2.

in response to dacowinhere... There is many things wrong with current catholicism and way too many to name in this comment. Well for one many DO believe that there are many ways to get to even implying that works can get to heaven which is 100% wrong.. two the "Virgin Mary" is a mediator between man and God along with the pope. I forgot the actual verse but it says there is but one mediator and He is Christ...

I do think he's a great artist AND i even think his theology is generally a step in a more interesting direction...his SOTERIOLOGY however is ABYSMAL....but no more the 99.9% of all "Christianity".
