@chokitpi- I will definitely check them out. I am already familiar with Sir John Glubb's work, and find it an 'efficient' resource. There are quite a lot of details missing, and a lot of blunt fact not really expanded on IMO.But you don't need to worry about it- it gives the basic facts- so you have some knowledge. After you have read the Quran, there is a more in depth source I can direct you to, written by an English academic. But I have never read 'The Hajj' and am anticipating it!

I would recommend the Pickthall translation because the level of English is more modern and easier to understand, but the Yusuf Ali translation is my favourite because it is written in old style English and gives it a bit of an archaic taste on the tongue!

@shebzydon China and Russia aside(hell, WE'VE never been invaded..) The idea of the Nation of Islam is essentially the law of Islam or sharia law superseding national law, in fact the Hebrews lived under this code when they helped the Persians overthrow the Babylonians, hoping that they would be better.. They imposed a tax on non-muslims called the jizyah, It is still written into the Hadith which the Ayatollah has instructed the Iranians to follow.

What you're talking about is a 'Shariah ruled country' (there is a massive difference). @shebzydon THAT is not a victory.. I wanted you to prove me wrong.. I wanted you to say "no you are wrong, our religion is separate from our government for these reasons.." And so no I won't consider it a victory.. Because if we cannot fix these cracks in our collective society we wont be free.. I would even go so far as to say that the 'one god' is the same for all of us.. But from what I hear from the middle east this would only lead to my execution as a heretic. It's sad really.

@shebzydon I do live in the states, I wholeheartedly oppose the NDAA as it is an atrocity imposed on the classless by the elite.. Maybe the situation is similar for both of us? I have not read the entire Quran nor have I read the entire Torah or Bible. I did read Thomas Payne's 'Common Sense' and e emphasizes why all religions should be questioned. I have read a biography on Mohammed and I have read various books about conflict in the middle east.

@shebzydon I agree entirely, And from what I have read so far it is entirely the difference of possible interpretation that makes desperate people do atrocious things. Truly all that I have read so far could be interpreted in either a good or bad light with the bible torah or quran. As long as we can all agree that no conviction is worth killing over then I think we both have probably learned an important lesson. My hope is that people will question authority in any case.

@chokitpi- I totally understand where you are coming from. I started out questioning authority- you know, like 'why does God do xyz?'. But then I realised that that's what makes God God. He does things that you won't understand, that might seem harsh in your eyes, but for the better. Like a surgeon for example. He slices you open in an operation and you might be thinking 'WTF'- but its for your own benefit, and you don't have the wisdom behind it.

@shebzydon- Questioning authority is human intuition. It's natural for you to want to question an authority. Why should I serve this individual? What makes them so special? Thing is, Islam teaches you everything you need to know about God, so that questioning is lost, because you have answers. And no respect is lost here. You know if you were Muslim, then I'd have a few issues. But seeing as you aren't (at the moment!) just keep an open mind. You will find God, if he wants you :-)

You know I have recently learned the IDF on occasion will accidentally destroy property belonging to settlers. .So the real issue we are facing is larger government entities operating in defiance of the will of the people, and indeed there are good people on both sides of the conflict. @chokitpi- I will definitely check them out. I am already familiar with Sir John Glubb's work, and find it an 'efficient' resource. There are quite a lot of details missing, and a lot of blunt fact not really expanded on IMO.But you don't need to worry about it- it gives the basic facts- so you have some knowledge. After you have read the Quran, there is a more in depth source I can direct you to, written by an English academic. But I have never read 'The Hajj' and am anticipating it!

I would recommend the Pickthall translation because the level of English is more modern and easier to understand, but the Yusuf Ali translation is my favourite because it is written in old style English and gives it a bit of an archaic taste on the tongue!

@wacka2- America is a decaying body. China has been the only nation to come out of the recession with a 10% increase in profits while the rest of the west is on its knees. Ahmednijad has oil and lots of it! Iran is the center of Russian and Chinese investments, so they will go out of there way to protect it from other forces. So you see, China and Russia are far from needing America. I think you'll find they both get on extremely well with Ahemdinijad too. It's the US that is losing out.
