  • OMG did I hear a big play up for this movie, mostly around how much money was spent. On this interview, the director went on and on about how this movie is new never done before, cutting edge...Earth to Disney News Flash: We're not as easily coerced as we were in the 20th Century. Not only is this movie the most homogenized script Hollywood could produce (now that screen plays are run through algorithms to find out the best money makers), "John Carter" the American that saves the world? please.

  • which is the soundtrack from 0:48?

  • @Nachitoparma Led Zeppelin - Kashmir.

  • Avatar? well, at least the main guy and the girl are in human forms.

  • They are indeed on Barsoom, I never doubted that... but seeing as how they have a tendency to change things (and since we now know how Mars really is) I thought it might have been changed... the story would be on a planet called Barsoom, but it would have been in another solar system.

This was my first impression, when I first watched the trailer... but after reading about the movie I realized I was wrong... Barsoom remains Mars and the character will be called John Carter of Mars in the end.

  • Star Wars + Tarzan + Avatar + orchestral version of Kashmir =

I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

  • "You are ugly" lol

  • @Gerbilen Just replying to you to mention that any name with 'Gerb' in it is awesome.

  • 1:10

    Jackie Chan Meme

  • I was disappointed by the Kashmir cover. But then I was more disappointed when my friend heard it, turned to me and said "Oh, Tune! Uh hu, yeah!" He seems to think Puff Daddy made the original.

  • well done for butcherin kashmir disney, you fucks.

  • 0:57 Hair on fire?

  • so does his denser muscles from being terran make him super strong or something?

  • ANOTHER...BOOOOOOOORRIIIIINGGG MOVIE............

  • @Creatingshadows So... have you seen it?

  • Awesome.

  • Yeah aliens definatley reminds me of unreal ! What an awesome game that was ! This looks good - bout time we had some decent sci Fi back on !

  • if Disney fucks this movie up i am going to be pissed because i have read all of the books and if the story is not the same i am going to rage and never watch another movie even associated with Disney again.

  • This might be the dumbest looking movie I have ever seen.

  • at first i was like, this looks promising, but then i saw disney so i stopped watching.

  • Holy fuck, Disney grew some balls

  • cant wait to see this film

  • This remebers me on Star Wars hehe :P

  • SICK Kashmir cover ! Name of song pls ; )

  • @DrWhoi 10 Years Kaskmir II :P

I recognise it becuase it's on my 'Epic Music' playlist :D

  • I just started reading the first book of the John Carter series: A Princess from Mars. When I first saw the trailer, I was confused. But then I read a profile of John Carter on the Badass of the Week website and it all made sense. Then I wanted to see the movie and read the book. If done right, I think this could be bigger than the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

  • Srlsy PPL Should read comments before Creating one i have now seen several comments like " this move is a copy of...." and some other Shi.. But.. this movie is supposed to be based on a book Writen 100years ago by a Dude. so This IS not a COPY OF Any other Shi... Movie.

  • Hmm...Nali people from the Unreal game anyone?

  • Comment removed

  • i have to be the 100th person to say this, but this movie is based on a book that was published in 1917, by the same guy that wrote tarzan

  • @QuantumTap Do not be surprised - who still reads books now hiiii. Certainly not the people for whom the world of fantasy and SF begins and ends at the movies watched hiiiii

  • From 0:00 to 0:25 it's a complete copy of Star Wars... Good blooper on approach here...

  • Is it me, or does threatening them bear a resemblance to the SG:1?

  • WOOLA!!!!!

  • "Get on."

    Most overused movie line.

    I smell a flop.

  • 0:40 pocahontas? What you doing on my screen?

  • wat is the song in this called?

  • @wontedblackhawk led zeppelin - kashmir

  • Planet Hulk Reminds Me Of This!

  • whats up with the zeppelin like soundtrack¿

  • @PBTazo It's a remix of Kashmir

  • Comment removed

  • looks great, cant wait! but of course hes going to be great, come on hes gambit :P

  • Barsoom, Baby - BARSOOM!

  • Does anyone know what the song that starts at 0:47 is called? Really like it, it's in a load of trailers but I can't seem to get a name for it

  • @MrMonsterGibble It's Kashmir, from Led Zeppelin, but not the original, its some new version a suppose.

  • @MrMonsterGibble Its a remix of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

  • I like how crisp and clean it looks. The cats in avatar looked kinda smelly.

  • I have a bad feeling about this. Maybe that's because it looks exactly like the gladiatorial arena on Geonosis. (And like the one in Force Unleashed II, one of the worst video game titles of all time - it even has the same jumping). I do hope that they explain his ability to jump several stories in the air. Humans would be stronger on Mars because of there being less gravity, but not that much stronger, and they would lose muscle tone anyway.

  • @klw7789 ...no the gravity is right... the moon is 9,377 km above Mars compared to the Earth’s moon is 384,403 km away from the Earth. so the gravity is correct. the movie was filmed on mars in my opinionated fact.

  • @itsbeyondbelief I decided to look it up on a sciency website just now. Mars' gravity is 38% of earth, so you would only be able to jump about 264% of the height of a jump on Earth- which means that he would be jumping less than 10 feet in the air, which is one third (or significantly less) than the distance he is jumping in this trailer. But this movie wasn't meant to be scientific - Mars isn't habitable and doesn't have a warm climate anyway.

  • @klw7789 ...well you can do the math if your a expert but what you do is take the size of the mars moon and get a percentage of that from how big the earths moon is, then you take a percentage based off our gravity which is about 3 ft jump and the moon is 384403 km away...so you you would know the mars moon is smaller, but when calculated correctly because it is 9377 km above mars so it being closer to the moons means less gravity, and that is not even including the second moon on mars.

  • @klw7789...anyways the gravity they show in the film is correct. also yea it was definately filmed on mars. the movie doom was filmed on mars too. hollywood is not going to tell you those movies were filmed on mars. but yea they most definately were.

  • Recognized it as soon as I heard it!!

  • Know someone the theme of the soundtrack, which play on 0:47 ???

    Pls POST it

  • @gruenesmaennchen96 Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

  • Movie looks fuckin awesome. Opening night for me.

  • Actually it is exactly 100 years since "A princess of Mars" the first John Carter novel, was released... Edgar Rice Burroughs is more famous for his other creation (Tarzan) but John Carter as a well known and loved character for decades. There is even another recent movie based on the first novel, with the former porn star Traci Lords as the princess.

They don't mention Mars anywhere in the trailer though... perhaps they changed that.

But... why are they using the song Kashmir by Led Zeppelin?

  • @vidalaac in the descripiton they talk about mars

  • @vidalaac

It's fairly obvious they are on Barsoom.

  • @vidalaac I think they just like the tune...?

  • get on!

  • and also 300 for the 20ft jumps

  • avatar 1,5?

  • YES TIM RIGGINS!

  • Is there a law that these movies always have to have love affairs ,it pretty much ruins the whole experience im so tired of the same formula that Hollywood tries to pull on us time after time after time after time...

  • what's the song in 0:50?

  • @nhuttoan the song is Kashmir by Led Zeppelin, from the album Physical Graffiti (1975), though this is a different version.

  • I find it truly amazing that the creatures on Mars speak english.

  • @CamiJuel wtf you want to read through the whole movie?

  • This guy loves playing green goblins.

  • "You are ugly, but you are beautiful"

    Best. Line. Ever

  • YES THEY FINALY MADE A MOVIE OFF OF THE BOOK!!!! OMG I'M SO EXITED!!!!

  • Come on Disney, Give us more Pirates movies...

  • I will watch this just for VFX ...

  • Ew, more like live version of DELGO.

  • Best Disney movie ever

  • I am so excited to see this MOVIE!!!! It looks very much like the comic, which I've read and it is so good, so beautiful!!! Hope it's good enough!

  • that thing used to be a monster until..... well, you know

  • Anybody else notice that the disney trailer of this movie is more about comedy and fun adventure while the other official trailer is about death, battles, and hardcore adventure with romance.

  • how much is this camera they used

  • Avatar/ Prince of Persia /Gladiator /Star Wars / Lord of the Rings / Cowboys and Aliens anyone?

  • @TheGreatTamara so clever. just like those films are rip-offs of films prior as well. Welcome to hollywood.

  • @BkDogers427 Considering it's based on books written between 1912-1918 I don't think it can be flagged as just ripping off movies from the 21st century

  • @Dugoth1 my point exactly

  • @TheGreatTamara U missed Green Lantern ...

  • @TheGreatTamara Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

  • @joeho62664 John Carter was created in 1912, so . . . . no

  • @TheGreatTamara and the book this is based on came out before all of them...

  • @TheGreatTamara you're an idiot.

  • @TheGreatTamara The novel this movie is based on predates the concepts of those movies by decades, if not a century.

  • @TheGreatTamara This came first.

  • @TheGreatTamara not in movie form of course...

  • @TheGreatTamara

It's funny because the book came out in the 1910's

  • @TheGreatTamara Kinda because this story was the ancestor of ALL of those.

  • @TheGreatTamara plus final fantasy

  • @TheGreatTamara and you DO know that john carter was before all of them, right?

  • @TheGreatTamara don't forget braveheart

  • @TheGreatTamara Indeed, with a trace amount of the music from Iron Man 1 and Narnia mixed in there to..

Looks like Disney is running out of ideas and is starting to copy and mix together other movies and ideas.

  • @TheGreatTamara don;t forget Dune as well..look at 1:00

  • @TheGreatTamara 300 and the time machine ...

  • @TheGreatTamara The story came WAY before the titles you just said. I'm not lying look it up

  • :whats the song name at 0:46

  • Looks Damp

  • @DarkSpider97 What does that mean?

  • @Ralokone Means Sick / Dirty / Insanely Wickedly amazing :O

  • Planet Hulk, anyone?

  • @trekmogui This is based on a book that waaaaaaaaay predates planet hulk, and hte hulk character, and super heroes in general . . . hell superman basically is a rip of this

  • @trekmogui right :) because john carter is huge and green and fighting aliens in a gladiator arena in a planet he was banished to. How did I miss that?!

  • i will watch this movie. because kashmir by led zeppelin seems to be the inspiration for the main theme

  • YEAH, THE STAR WARS/AVATAR PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO GET A CLUE. WITHOUT THESE MARS NOVELS, LUCAS AND CAMERON WOULD PROBABLY BE DOING INFOMERCIALS, AND DEJAH THORIS KICKS ARSE OVER PRINCESS LEIAH ANY DAY, AND YOU WON'T FIND EWOKS AND JAR JAR BINKS ON MARS. I'M SURE MANY BURROUGHS PURISTS WILL FIND THINGS THEY WOULD PREFER TO BE DIFFERENT, BUT THAT MAKES LIFE INTERESTING. SOME LIKE ROLLS ROYCE, OTHERS PREFER FERRARI. I AM DEFINITELY CERTAIN THAT GEORGE LUCAS WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE BARSOOM'S INFLUENCE.

  • Avatar meets Star Wars - yes and I love it! I've been wanting more adventure mvies in space or on different planets. I also love the fact that it's DISNEY who's behind this movie so that she isn't as slutty as in the comic. It looks way better this way. It's going to be one of the best movies in 2012 for sure.

  • 0:53 I'm so gonna draw this!

  • lol fail, the main actor is like a kid, fail

  • Awesome.

I recall these books my older Brother had as a child.

  • Alright, so is this based solely off of A Princess of Mars or is it that and The Gods of Mars? Because the "new power" I don't recall in A Princess of Mars. Unless it's a weird take on the Zodanga...

  • @RyanChapmanFilms It is not an exact adaption of a princess of mars, the book a princess of mars was written in a serialized format so it would be better adapted to a TV show...

to fix the problem they have had to mix in elements of the other books to make it play out like a movie

  • Is it just me or the music theme is pretty much ripped from Iron Man. There are differences, but I've heard remixes that sounded less similar to Djawadi's score. xD

Another must-see for 2012. I don't think I've had a year so full of awesome movies in my entire life.

  • BOMBA film of the century (mark my words)

  • Okay, with actors working against a bluescreen and using CGI, how does the studio get the sky color wrong? In the Disney adaptation, Barsoom is obviously NOT Mars! Maybe a parallel universe... :(

  • @DengerSpace Yes BARSOOM IS MARS in the the movies . . . sky color wrong?

I take it you didnt read the books . . .ahem, excerpt from thuvia maid of mars, book 4 of the John Carter of Mars series, Chapter 12 "to Save Dusar"

Slowly Astok withdrew from the presence

of his father. With white face and shaking

limbs he made his way to his own palace. As

he crossed the courtyard his glance chanced to

wander to the great east tower looming high

against the azure of the sky.

    Azure = Blue

  • THIS WILL BE GOOD, BUT I'M SORRY, THAT IS NOT DEJAH THORIS, THE MOST MAGNIFICENT WOMAN IN TWO WORLDS.NO ONE WOULD BOOT HER OUT FOR CHOMPING CRACKERS, BUT I WAS HOPING FOR A LITTLE MORE EYE CANDY IN ATTEMPTING TO BRING THIS SUPREME FANTASY FIGURE TO LIFE, SUCH AS A MIXTURE OF FRAZETTA AND JUSKO. STILL, GOOD ENOUGH IS BETTER THAN GOING DOWN THE TUBES, SO BRAVO TO A LONG OVERDUE PROJECT AND HOPEFULLY IT CAN AT LEAST LIVE ON TO COVER THE FIRST 3 NOVELS. BE MORE CAREFUL WITH THUVIA.

  • @dantalionable Dude just because the actress doesnt follow your standard of beauty, doesnt mean she isnt beautiful.

And the frazetta version was UGLY

And she is only ever described as perfect, most details lacking, you are meant to fill in what perfect means

and no person in the world can match anyones standards perfectly AND SHE IS NOT EYE CANDY, she was never EVER eye candy in the books, and she never will be in the films!

  • @Ralokone YOU ARE MISINTERPRETING ME SLIGHTLY. I AN 57 YEARS OLD,AND READ ALL BURROUGHS BOOKS IN MY TEENS, AGAIN IN MY 20'S, AND ONE FINAL TIME IN MY LATE 30'S, SO I WOULD REMEMBER THEM PROPERLY. I RESEARCHED LYNNE COLLINS, AND SHE IS DEFINITELY GOOD LOOKING AND HER SHAKESPEARE AND WOLVERINE ROLES EARN HER THE PART, BUT AS FABULOUS AS DEJAH WAS PERSONALLY, HER PHYSICAL PERFECTION WAS 1 OF THE REASONS SHE WAS ALWAYS GETTING KIDNAPPED. I MENTION EYE CANDY NOT AS DEMEANIG BUT 4 USWATCHN

  • ALSO TO RALOKONE: I THOUGHT FRAZETTA'S PRINCESS OF MARS WAS AN INCREDIBLE RENDITION OF AN ATHLETIC WARRIOR MAIDEN AND JOE JUSKO'S 3D CARD ART VERSION OF THUVIA WAS ALSO PERFECT BURROUGHS IN MY ESTIMATION. ANY NEGATIVE VIEWS I MAY HAVE OF LYNNE'S PORTRAYAL IS MUCH THE WAY I FELT ABOUT CATE BLANCHETT BEING GALADRIEL. IN MY OPINION, EVEN WITH HOLLYWOOD EDITING.CATE'S FACE IS SIMPLY NOT GALADRIEL. HOWEVER, I WILL RESERVE JUDGEMENT ON LYNNE UNTIL I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE TWICE. PEACE

  • @dantalionable TYPING EVERYHING IN CAPS like a five year old and replacing words with numbers is not how you prove intelligence or maturity!

  • I can’t wait to watch it!!!

I love the books and I’ve always wanted someone to make a great movie, I’m very happy that it’s gonna be Disney. I believe in the greatest result!!!

    Thank you so much.

  • reminds me so much of star wars. hah

  • He is the first Jedi.

  • avatar rang. they want their plot-line back.

  • @jacksamthompson Avatar can go pound sand. "A Princess of Mars" came out in 1912.

  • @jacksamthompson The plot of this movie is nothign like avatar, there is no prissy environmental message here nor are the tribal primitives portrayed as jesus . . . . in fact

The books portray the exact opposite of that, in the books the planet is going to die. No ifs ands or buts, the planet is slowly dying, it isnt the fault of the people who live on it . . .it is just the natural cycle of the planets life

And the tribal primitives are horrible evil monsters, John murders 3

  • Conan of Persian??

  • oh avatar and star wars huh/ these books were written way before both

  • 1:10 time to call Cesar Milan

  • actually.. that's because Star Wars and Avatar both share the same original story source: John carter of mars...

  • cheesey ass hell blurg

  • Disney's Avatar, with a soundtrack by Led Zeppelin? I'll bite.

  • ohhhh my god the music on this trailer gave me horrible flash backs images from godzilla

  • the song dosen't get along with the trailer. but the guy who directed wall-e is directing this movie so seems legit.

  • I thought the visuals looked pretty faithful, except that Dejah Thoris is wearing more clothes.

  • this movie it is not a copy of stupid avatar this is based on novel called princess of mar's by edgar rice burrough's which came in year 1917 check wiki if you want to

  • @nidhinsatya WRONG it came out in 1912 XD

seriosuly High Five bro for being the defender of the awesome :)

  • i have the book and its AWESOME, its like 80+ years old though. there is this one part where he upper cuts the big ape thing, then punches it in the gut WHILE IN MIDAIR, then it goes away, then he kills it with a huge ass cudgel.

  • @sajprj whats the book called??

  • @MargeritaXOX a princess of mars by edgar rice burrough

  • you killed hi in 1 blow? hes dragonborn!

  • what is the music???? 0:51 to the end?

  • @chrisswfc92 Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

  • geonosis? really 0.06 in hello episode 2 not nice too see you again

  • Avatar of the sands?

  • "You are ugly but beautiful, you will fight for us" LOL?

  • whats the song in the middle of the trailer?

  • the beginning REALLY looks like the arena in Star Wars II

  • Sounds like a rip off of Kashmir in the soundtrack.

  • @PuttingOnTheFoil It is kashmir, why do people assume that disney didnt get the license to use the music?

  • So blood is ok in a movie trailer, provided it's not red.

    Gotcha.

  • yeah...star wars, avatar and now...JOHN CARTER =)

  • certainly has me interested, looking forward to watching the movie
