  • We didn't "evolve" from a high-fat diet. High-fat foods are extremely hard to find in nature, unless you live in a place that has many avocado trees, coconut trees, etc. and oil doesn't exist in nature at all.

  • lol @ people saying Goldhammer has got it wrong. Day in, day out He helps people heal themselves of every condition under the sun. And guess what? He sure isn't feeding them meat to do it! lol

  • 800 or 900 per day is all that you can "stuff in" per day from fruit?? nuh uh! I can do that in one meal easily

  • Why does he swear off meat? We evolved as omnivores, not vegetarians. Just look at our teeth. So meat is a part of the diet we evolved on. So why swear it off?

  • I love that this Dr said that the Raw Food diet tends to be an elitist diet. I agree. And Im glad he said it outloud. I love eating raw but who can really afford to eat that way 100% of the time and survive. I guess we will have to water fast the rest of the time.

He was on point. Where is his center located?

  • Hey Jack, I dont think you listened to his talk all the way through. He was not advocating more grains he was advocating as far as I can summarise that we are individuals and we need to assess things for ourselves.

  • I like this guy! I really resonate with his message. Always good to find another LEGIT doctor who GETS IT. Low-fat, high-raw, simple, fruit/veg-rich, vegan and HYGIENIC in approach!

  • This guy is right! Find what works best for u!

  • Actually If you eat nuts and seeds you easily get a lot more calories easily 2000 calories a day did you know avocados have up to 700 calories as shocking as this sounds i have read many books that state this it's not a bad thing amd actully dehydrated grains could the very adaptable to everyone try this and please message me and let me know if you feel any different.

  • Kevin, you asked people to guess his age...if you're asking it's probably because he must be way older than he looks.......how about answering your own question... it's been 3 months....... ; )

  • He's addicted to grains!

  • ya but eating 300grams of fat or more a day, wont it make you fat?? and doesnt it mess up digestion?

  • is sprouted dehydrated buckwheat good to eat ? is it healthy to eat everyday ?

  • @xsliceofheavenx sprouted buckwheat, clover and sunflowers are some of the healthiest sprouts you can eat but I would make the assumption that dehydration would destroy some of nutrients, minerals and amino acids?

  • Cute kid :-) is that you guys son?

  • what about legumes?

i do enjoy a cooked sprouted aduki bean soup! cooked lentil soup too.

what about the beans/rice protein combination?

i take digestive enzymes when i eat cooked food.

which starchy vegetables? all potato varieties? sweet pumpkin?

i steam veg i wouldnt enjoy raw.

  • Even gluten containing grains can give lots of nutrients and be tolerated by people sensitive to gluten, as long as the grains are thoroughly predigested by lacto fermentation for at least 24 hours before cooking or baking.

Study - w w w westonaprice org - for more information on traditional food preparation.

I feel I do better when I get most of my calories from fat and not eat grains with every meal.

  • contradicting most of the people below me, I have had no problems with grains/starchy vegetables and use them to carb up before going to work or a workout. Very great for sustained energy in combination with small amounts of fat and some fruit.

of course, this is just what ive experienced with my body.

  • fifty four

  • There is another strategy for vegans, instead of cooking food, you can drink massive amounts of green juices and eat tons of chlorella, because the nutrients are pushed out of the cells wall through juicing, and most chlorella sold has had its cell wall broken using water pressure. and you probably can reach your protein needs by eating these foods... and you can easily meet your caloric needs by eating as much fat or fruit as you need too.

  • Comment removed

  • People advocate eating a bunch of cooked vegetables, because for vegans its hard to get the nutrients that are trapped in cell wall of the plant. Cooking breaks down the plant cell wall and lets all the nutrients out, but it also ruins half the nutrients which because a waste product for the body. and none of the nutrients are in the state of functionality as they were before. This can be avoided if you eat animal products because they have no cell wall so the nutrients are more avaliable.

  • Life has been living off raw food for billions of years and humans have barely starting eating cooked food as only part of there diet for thousands of years. Not very wise or successful... We may have tolerances to cooked food compared to wild animals but does this mean that cooked food is superior? I am not saying that there are no situations were cooking food can be beneficial , and this would be like when you extract nutrients from herbs...

  • I disagree, I tried eating starchy vegetables for calories and it made me feel really bad. I prefer olive oil, raw fish, raw meat, raw eggs, fruit and other things to get my caloric needs...

  • Loved this series too!! We are all different and our lifestyles should reflect this. What helps one reach health may not be the same path as someone else. Sharing information and taking and trying what sounds as if it might work for me seems best. Great reminder. Wishing everyone well.

  • love you guys! thanks for this series!!!

  • I was a healthy weight before raw and then I became scarily thin after going raw for only 3 months. My teeth and gums were affected by the large quantities of fruit and I also became susceptible to infections. I found that balance is key. The more greens the better! Also soaked grains helped with the calorie intake, but incorporating cooked gluten free grains and potatoes helped a ton for my weight gain as well as non dairy milks.

  • thanks Kevin for allowing us to hear Dr. Goldhamer's point of view.

And thank you Dr. Goldhamer for sharing your well researched information.

With the internet speeding up information sharing there is hope for world health and happiness to increase, making the planet and our personal body a better place to live in.

  • he is 42!

  • Teeth:

IMO the teeth problem doesnt stem from too much fruit per se, but from the fact that especially imported, but generally all fruit, gets picked very unripe for shelf live, making the acid content higher, and more aggressive to the teeth.

For a better taste this got/gets counteracted by selective breeding for more sugar content, so that even pretty unripe fruit will taste soert of ripe and you won't notice the acid content as much...

  • cont'

While some fruits are always pretty agressive on the teeth and I think should be eaten in moderation (eg. many sorts of apples, if not all), for some the difference is huge:

A really ripe pineapple has almost no acid, whereas an unripe one, even if you let it lie at home for a while, can *bite* in your mouth from the acid.

If we all could have huge gardens, this would be much less of a problem, I'm sure.

  • I think Dr Goldhamer is awesome

  • I don't know kiddo, maybe 40s? 50s? hahaha :)

aren't millet and quinoa considered seeds? Anyway, I tolerate millet and quinoa very well. Spelt is supposed to be "good" but it gives me bad indigestion lol so I just make rejuvelac with it. I like this doc, he seems really sweet. But I don't agree with everything he is saying..

  • Kevin, why not ask the doc: rather than starches (which long term can lead towards insulin receptor desensitization), wouldn't healthy fats be a better option for many (to increase caloric totals after consuming fruits and veggies)? He brushes aside olive oil on this video, and I am not understanding why.

  • I don't agree with this guy at all, saying that starches are healthier than fats. He is dead wrong because we have not been eating grains long enough to be able to adapt to them. This is why they still cause major problems with blood suagr levels, etc. Many of the 'raw foodists' that this guy treats do the diet the wrong way. The fact is, we evolved off of a higher fat diet and we shouldn't be eating most grains. Fresh produce and more fats is what we should be getting.

  • @JackNeedles He was saying that we should be eating fruits/ vegetables high in starch on top of eating fress produce. Because eating fresh produce alone (raw/vegans) doesn't give us enough calories.

  • No, he specifically said that you should include more starches like rice in order to get enough calories & that many raw vegans make the mistake of eating a higher amount of fat when going raw. In other words, he was essentially saying that eating grains is healtheir than eating more fats which is not true at all. Most grains are hard on the human digstive system. He also said that there hasn't been a culture that eats mostly raw foods. He's dead wrong. He needs to study evolution.

  • @JackNeedles I completely agree with you, not this doctor. He's stuck in the vegan dogma that just because someone heals on vegan foods as a result of detoxing SAD diets, he automatically figures that is the best thing for everyone long term. Then when the low fat vegans have a hard time getting the caloric intake they turn to grains and starches which is the wrong answer for the vast majority. cont...

  • @JackNeedles The answer is FATS, healthy raw fats, including saturated fats and/or animal fats! That's how you meet your caloric needs and it's incredibly easy and is very easy on insulin levels so your blood sugar stabilizes AND they taste good. Do not listen to the low-fat BS, that is from the 1980s and is harmful to long term health.

  • Amen to that - especially raw/dried grass fed animal organ meat. The healthiest thing to eat along with raw plant superfoods and herbs. I try to make sure I get enough grass fed animal organ meat in every week because they're really packed with powerful nutrients and various growth factors that we need. Grains are one of the worst foods a person can consume, which the exception of something like chia seeds, which are fine.

  • Instead of eating raw all the time, i do enjoy roasting veggies, making hot soups and roasting clean meats over an open fire.

  • @JackNeedles eek, wrong

  • @JackNeedles Thanks for leaving your comment Jack! I think this gentlemen said it perfectly, is not to give into anyone and their "dogma," but to do your own homework and what best suits yourself! I agree with what you stated on fats, I still feel EPA and DHA are some of the MOST beneficial fats one can ingest. We could also debate all day long if meat is good to eat.... considering as the human species has been eating it for song long, I think yes....in moderation :) AMEN

  • thats a good question lol, seriously how old is the doctor ??? he looks quite healthy .

  • You once mentioned a green shake made with romaine and how you thought it tasted like chocolate. For the life of me, I can't find that reference! Please say it again, I would like to try it. (Greens, chocolate, I could go for that.)
