I forgot which book I read it in, but that's what it said. Plus, Pepsi dropped his contract after the 1993 allegations. :/

From the press conference that was held by Pepsi they stated that their contract with MJ was over when the tour ended. Since MJ ended the tour early in Mexico Pepsi felt their obligations were meet an pulled out as fast as they cld before the allegation issue got real bad. Nothing to do with painkillers.

Maybe it was some kind of compensation on Pepsis behalf Mike was badly burnt filming an ad for Pepsi, so maybe they offered him the ability to plug his albums and receive sponsorship for his tours through Pepsi commercials for a reduced price
