4:00. Darien Angali(?). He was once a contestant on Top Of The Form. His charisma made him very popular, which is how he got this role. Unfortunately, he is completely blown away by the huge presence of Sian Phillips.
Something tells me that if Livia had been this age instead of so much older when Caligula got so out of hand, one conversation with 'great grandmother' and he'd have wet himself!
LIVIA: "Less work for you, then, isn't it? Yeeeesss...I can see the attraction. You should go far...if you manage to keep your head. You may go, now. Oh, Plotius, you need not, of course, include your own name on that list. For the moment."
LIVIA: "Hold your tongue. I'll tell you what I want & you will provide it. I want a catolog of my daughter in law's activities. I want names, dates, places. And far from breaking with her, you may encourage her all you like.
LIVIA: "I want to help you in your career. You'd like to be helped, wouldn't you?"
PLOTIUS: "Of course. And what must I do in exchange? Stop seeing the Lady Julia?
LIVIA: "Oh, ha ha, oh, oh, you've a mighty high opinion of yourself, haven't you?. Do you imagine that I would stoop to buying you off when I could swat you like a fly if I wanted to?
LIVIA: "...guesses, yes, well, that wouldn't be hard, would it? I would imagine all Rome, apart from her father, guesses. How much does Lucius mean to you?"
PLOTIUS: "He means more than I can say."
LIVIA: "Oh not more than you can say, surely. Try."
LIVIA: "But not in you, clearly not in you. No, no, no. In you, I would say they have been very fortunate. Come closer. How long have you known my daughter in law?"
PLOTIUS: "Not long. Uhhhmm...A month, or so."
LIVIA: "And did you meet her through her son? Or her son through her?
PLOTIUS: "I was Lucius' friend, first. I stayed at the house in Antiam for a few days."
LIVIA: "You were wise not to refuse her. Would you do as much for me? I am, after all, Caesar's wife. (quiet chuckle)Quite a stud, aren't you? You find me utterly repulsive but you'd try all the same. Mm..I like that. I like a trial.
PLOTIUS: "You're a...you're a very beautiful woman."
LIVIA: "I'm an old one. Still, that wouldn't stop you, would it, if you thought that I could do something for you? Well, perhaps I can. Yours is a noble family, but poor, I believe."
LIVIA: "Well is it true? Have I heard right? Are you having my daughter-in-law? Come...you can be frank with me. As a matter of fact (laughter) it would be better for you to be frank with me."
PLOTIUS: "She...she took a fancy to me."
LIVIA: "I'm sure she did."
PLOTIUS: "Well, what could I do? She is, after all, Caesar's daughter."
Whoa just noticed something new after all the many times I have seen this program!!! When the bloodsoaked cub falls it falls into Claudius arms and the old man makes the prediction I noticed that there is alot of blood is on the child of Agrippina who mother of Caligua!! could that also be part of the prophesy?
@ohwell94 Possibly but I doubt Julia or Antonia ever took it seriously. If Antonia did at all, she never admitted it until the very end when Claudius outlived his brother and sister.
How I adore the character of Livia. She has some of the best lines and the actress portrays her with such subtle courage. Her lines are sophisticated and arch.
@blackiemittens Livillia got sent to her room for worse than that insult. Not sure about sticking up for Claudius but Antonia found it rude to interrupt a seer speaking of a prophecy.
@3baxcb You're right of course, and that seemed likely to me too. I just wished there could have been one moment that Antonia could have been a REAL mother rather than a disdainful snob. Something tells me if Drusus had lived, he'd have been the better parent.
@blackiemittens Not sure what Drusus would have done. By the time Claudius showed some disabilities, he was well past infancy so Drusus would have learned to tolerate him somewhat. Perhaps Claudius was Fortune's favourite because if he showed such infirmities at birth, he could have been exposed or given to some farmer or labourer.
Antonia was too consumed with pride because of the standards her uncle Augustus put with any female relatives of his. She found out the hard way though.
Stop complaining and get married!

This characterization of Livia is the greatest in theatrical history. I thought so 35 years ago and I think so now. Brava!

"Go to your room!" The only time Antonio ever stuck up for Claudius
with anyone.
As for Lavilla, she got her wish. She was dead before he was made emperor.

@blackiemittens Yes. and exactly in the manner of her punishment that day did Livilla die... locked in her room and starved to death.

@ClarinetMadeofSteele For a clumsy boy, Claudius is good at catching a wolf cub from 20-50 feet in the air.
